22382   Sun[TM] Gigabit Ethernet 2.0 card config causes slow cpu speed at bootup on Ultra Enterprise[TM]   11 Sep 2002

Status Issued

Description
4311907

i.e.:

ok .speed

IS:  SHOULD BE:
CPU Speed :  184 MHz  296 MHz
UPA Speed :  61.33 MHz  98.66 MHz

It appears irrelevant which cpus are installed.  If the machine boots with the right speed, there will be no failure or restriction for uptime.

SOLUTION SUMMARY:

1. On failure halt the machine and powercycle it.  Most UE450s will boot with the right speed because the failure is sporadic.

2. Install Gigabit Ethernet cards only in pci slots 4 and/or 5.  See Bug ID 4274774

The maximum allowed number of cards is 2 on a system with 4-CPUs. The maximum is less for smaller configurations.
