Procedure for checking Mixed Node Clusters in SunConfig
-------------------------------------------------------

Note: Mixed node cluster means cluster configuration which include more than one 
family (i.e. E3500 + E4500).
Previously ConfigTool v4.4 could handle only identical node cluster and only in 
N+1 (Star) topology.

Step 1:  Choose the appropriate mixed node cluster family.  Node cluster family 
is now denoted as follows <Storage>-<Topology>-<Node-families> (e.g. 
Multipack-N+1-Exx00 - Cluster configured in N+1 topology with Multipack for 
shared storage using Exx00 for nodes).

Step 2: Click on the "Configuration Setup" tab then enter number of nodes.  Then 
choose the interconnect type.

Step 3: Now click on the node families button.  This will bring up a list of 
valid node families for the chosen Topology/Storage/Interconnect combination.  
Choose the node family for node 1.

Step 4: Enter all the "node parts". Node parts are those parts which are unique 
to the node (including the shared storage).  Example of node parts would include 
system package, cpu, memory, boards, shared storage.  Note:  Power cords and 
cable/cable kits are generally checked at the "system level" so they are added 
as system parts. (see below for explanation)

Step 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all the nodes.

Step 6: Click on the Shareable Parts tab and indicate how you would like to 
share the storage between the nodes.  Note:  The storage HAS to be shared in a 
manner consistent with the topology chosen (e.g. In the scalable topology, all 
nodes have to be attached to the shared storage).

Step 7:  At this point it is possible to do a "node check" or a "node complete"  
i.e. checks will be performed only on the node in question.  This is not a 
necessary step since the final check includes node checks as well.  IMPORTANT:  
The node check does not perform a placement check on the node itself.  This is 
done ONLY during the global check.

Step 8:  Go back to the Configuration List tab and enter "system parts".  System 
parts are those parts which are used by the cluster as a whole (e.g. terminal 
concentrator, OS, cables, power cords.).  The list of all system parts is listed 
under the cluster family name in the options window.

Step 9:  Now you are ready to check the whole cluster configuration.  Click on 
the "check configuration" button.  This will ensure that a check is performed on 
the nodes induvidually plus the cluster as a whole.  The placement check is also 
performed at this time.

Cluster FAQ
-----------

1.  Why is configuring clusters in SunConfig different from ConfigTool 4.4?
- ConfigTool 4.4 could only handle identical node clusters.  Further it could 
handle only certain limited types of cluster topologies.  SunConfig will 
eventually rectify both these limitations in addition to providing the all the 
functionality of ConfigTool 4.4.

2.  Can I load cluster configuration saved using the old ConfigTool 4.4?
- No.  The file format changed.

4.  I cant find option XYZ under a certain cluster family.
- In cluster configurations, parts can be classified under 3 categories.  First, 
the node parts which can be found under the node family.  Second, the system 
parts which can be found under the cluster family.  Third, shared parts which 
can be found under the node family and can also be shared using the shareable 
parts tab.  It is likely that you were looking in the wrong place for a certain 
part.

6.  Are there any templates (sample configs) available for mixed node clusters?
- Yes.  Click on the template ("T") button and look under the SunCluster folder.
