PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:

This FIN is to inform the field of a part number change on the Sun
Blade 100 motherboard. Effective 6/13/2001, the motherboard P/N has
been changed from 375-0096-xx to 375-3061-xx. The new motherboard
(375-3061-xx) IS backward compatible however, the old motherboard
(375-0096-xx) is NOT forward compatible. Both motherboards will be
carried as FRU's.

The part number change from 375-0096-xx to 375-3061-xx was necessary
due to a fabrication change to make the new motherboard fully EMI
(Class B) compliant. Therefore, it is very important to NOT install an
older non-compliant motherboard in a Class B system. Class B systems
can be identified with the letter character "A" on the EZ label.

The new part number change will affect all systems manufactured after
June/13/2001.

Note: 106 systems were manufactured with motherboard P/N 375-0096-06
(note the dash "06"). Part number 375-0096-06 is functionally
equivalent to 375-3061-xx in terms of EMI compliance.

A list of systems (by serial number) manufactured with the 375-0096-06 MB can
be found at:

     http://sdpsweb.ebay/FIN_FCO/FIN/FINI0699-1_dir/MBSerno

An example of a fully EMI compliant systems EZ label can be viewed at:

IMPLEMENTATION:

         ---
        | | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
         ---

         ---
        | | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
         ---

         ---
        | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
         ---

CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem:

In the event a Sun Blade 100 Motherboard replacement becomes necessary,
Please adhere to the following guidelines to replace the motherboards.

. Replace 375-3061-xx (newer version) with like motherboard.

. Replace 375-0096-05 (older version) or lower with like motherboard
until the motherboard is not available. Our depots may substitute with
  375-3061-xx motherboards.

. Replace Replace 375-0096-06 or higher with the 375-3061-xx (newer
  version).

NOTE: Part number 375-0096-06 or higher is functionally equivalent

to 375-3061-01 in terms of EMI compliancy. These systems have
the letter "A" on the EZ label to indicate the Class B
           configuration.
