Sun Fire[tm] 6800 Server: Hardware Specifications

Processor
Number Two to 24
Architecture 750 MHz, 900 MHz, or 1050MHz UltraSPARC[tm] Cu (copper based) III
Cache per processor Primary (L1): 32 KB instruction, and 64 KB data cache
Secondary (L2): 8 MB, ECC protected
CPU interface Packet-switch crossbar connecting up to 6 CPU/Memory boards, and up to 4 I/O assemblies
System Interconnect Fireplane, 9.6 GB/sec (at 150 MHz)
System Boards
Number of boards Maximum of 6 CPU/Memory boards and 4 I/O assemblies
CPU/Memory board Two CPU's with 16 GB (max) Memory or four CPU's with 32 GB (max) memory
PCI I/O Assembly Eight PCI slots supporting 6 full or short cards (4 at 33 MHz, 5V and 2 at 66/33 MHz, 3.3V) and 2 short boards (at 33 MHz, 5V)
CompactPCI I/O Assembly Four CompactPCI slots supporting 4-3U cPCI cards (2 at 33 MHz, 5V and 2 at 66/33 MHz, 3.3V)
Main Memory
32 GB memory (max) per 4 CPU's or 16 GB memory (max) per 2 CPU's on a CPU/Memory board

Maximum system memory capacity of 192 GB (6 x 32 GB)

Note: The UltraSPARC III processor contains an integrated memory controller which is responsible for memory management of local memory and for running diagnostics on the CPU/Memory board. Therefore, memory capacity is directly related to the number of CPU's.

Standard Interfaces
System Controller Responsible for the overall control of the system. Each System Controller includes one RS-232/423 (DB25) serial interface and one 10/100BASE-T ethernet/fast ethernet (RJ45) interface. Dual system controllers are standard on the Sun Fire 6800.
Internal Mass Storage
Sun StorEdge[tm] D240 Media Tray A 2U-high, rack-mounted unit into which two UltraWide SCSI3 disk drive, and one DVD drive and one DDS4 tape drive can be fitted. The DVD and DDS4 devices can be replaced by extra disk drives if required. Up to 3 - D240 trays can be installed into the Sun Fire 6800 cabinet.
Power Supplies
The Sun Fire 3800-6800 server family can be configured with N"4" redundant DC bulk power supplies, which are hot swappable. The DC bulk power supplies provide power for all of the Sun Fire 3800-6800 systems' internal requirements, on a load-shared 48VDC power bus. The base package comes with 6 power supplies.
