Electrical Equipment Guidelines

Follow these basic guidelines when working with any electrical equipment.

Removing and Replacing the Duplexer

To remove and replace the duplexer in a wireless transverter, follow these instructions.

Note   The duplexer can be removed and replaced without removing the transverter from the antenna mast.

Warning Only trained and qualified personnel should be allowed to install, replace, or service this equipment. This equipment contains an energy hazard. Disconnect the system before servicing.

Warning Do not work on the system or connect or disconnect cables during periods of lightning activity.

Removing the Duplexer

To remove an installed duplexer from a wireless transverter, complete the following task:

    1. Shutting Down the Wireless Link

    2. Disconnecting the Power

    3. Removing the Antenna Cable

    4. Removing the Duplexer from the Wireless Transverter

Note   If the duplexer will be replaced in the wireless transverter before the transverter is installed on the antenna mast and power is applied to the system, proceed to "Removing the Duplexer from the Wireless Transverter".

Shutting Down the Wireless Link

The duplexer is a required component of the broadband fixed wireless system, and can only be removed when the wireless link is down. Shut down the wireless link with the shut command, using the procedures established at your installation.

Disconnecting the Power

To disconnect the DC power from the wireless transverter, complete the following tasks:

Warning Before performing any of the following procedures, ensure that power is removed from the DC circuit. To ensure that all power is OFF, locate the circuit breaker on the panel board that services the DC circuit, switch the circuit breaker to the OFF position, and tape the switch handle of the circuit breaker in the OFF position.

Step 1   Ensure that the DC power source is disconnected. (See warning above.)

Step 2   Switch the wireless transverter power/breaker switches on the rear panel of the power feed panel to the OFF position. (See Figure 3.)

Figure 3: Wireless Transverter Power/Breaker Switches on Power Feed Panel (OFF)

Removing the Antenna Cable

Remove the antenna cable from the N-type connector on the duplexer.

Removing the Duplexer from the Wireless Transverter

To remove the duplexer from a wireless transverter, complete the following tasks:

Step 1   Loosen the captive screws securing the duplexer in the transverter receptacle. (See Figure 4.)

Figure 4: Removing the Duplexer Assembly

Step 2   Remove the duplexer assembly (see Figure 5), and set it aside, being careful to protect the internal RF connectors from damage.

Figure 5: Removing the Duplexer from the Transverter Receptacle

Replacing the Duplexer

To replace the duplexer, complete the following tasks:

    1. Installing the Duplexer Assembly in the Wireless Transverter

    2. Connecting the Antenna Cable

    3. Reinstating the Power

    4. Initiating the Wireless Link

Installing the Duplexer Assembly in the Wireless Transverter

The orientation of the duplexer when installed in the transverter will determine its transmit and receive frequency.

Note   The orientation of the duplexer at one end of a point-to-point link must be opposite to that of the duplexer at other end of the link. In addition, the choice of Tx Hi or Rx Hi must match the frequencies configured for the wireless modem card using the command-line interface or CiscoView.

To install the duplexer in the transverter, complete the following tasks:

Step 1   Determine if you will be using the high frequency band for transmitting or receiving.

Step 2   Detach the bottom portion of the label affixed to the under side of the duplexer, and record the duplexer orientation. (See Figure 6.) This label can be attached to equipment records and used for reference when configuring the system or performing maintenance.

Figure 6: Frequency Assignment Label

Step 3   Match the notched end of the duplexer with either the Tx Hi or Rx Hi side of the duplexer receptacle in the wireless transverter. (See Figure 7.)

Figure 7: Duplexer Receptacle in Wireless Transverter

Step 4   Verify that the gasket is aligned in the groove in the transverter chassis. (See Figure 8).

Figure 8: Gasket in Transverter Chassis

Step 5   Carefully line up the duplexer and plug it into the chassis, being careful that the internal RF connectors are properly aligned.

Step 6   Verify that the cover of the duplexer housing is flush with the transverter housing.

Caution If the cover is not flush, check the alignment of the internal RF connectors. In order to avoid damage, do not tighten the screws if the cover is not flush.

Step 7   Using the number 2 Phillips screwdriver, follow the threading sequence in Figure 9 and start tightening the screws.

Figure 9: Tightening Sequence

Step 8   Repeat the sequence and finish tightening the screws to between 16 and 20 inch-pounds of pressure.

Note   If you have replaced the duplexer in the wireless transverter before installing the transverter on the antenna mast and applying power to the system, the remaining steps do not apply. To install the wireless transverter on an antenna mast, refer to the instructions shipped with the wireless transverter or to the Cisco uBR7200 Series Universal Broadband Router Wireless Modem Card Subsystem Installation and Configuration document shipped with your wireless modem card.

Connecting the Antenna Cable

Connect the antenna cable to the N-type connector on the duplexer.

Reinstating the Power

To reinstate the power, complete the following tasks:

Step 1   Reconnect the DC power source.

Step 2   After wiring the DC power supply, remove the tape from the circuit breaker switch handle and reinstate power by moving the handle of the circuit breaker to the ON position.

Step 3   Switch the wireless transverter power/breaker switches on the rear panel of the power feed panel to the ON position. (See Figure 10.)

Figure 10: Wireless Transverter Power/Breaker Switches on Power Feed Panel (ON)

Initiating the Wireless Link

Using the procedures established at your installation, reinstate the wireless link with the no shut command.

This completes the procedure for removing or replacing the duplexer in a Cisco broadband fixed wireless system.
