Shut Down the Wireless Link

The wireless transverter is a required component of the broadband fixed wireless system, and can only be removed when the wireless link is down. Using the procedures established at your installation, shut down the wireless link with the shut command.

Disconnect the Power

Warning Before performing any of the following procedures, ensure that power is removed from the DC circuit. To ensure that all power is OFF, locate the circuit breaker on the panel board that services the DC circuit, switch the circuit breaker to the OFF position, and tape the switch handle of the circuit breaker in the OFF position.

To disconnect the DC power from the wireless transverter:

Step 1   Ensure that the DC power source is disconnected. (See warning above.)

Step 2   Switch the wireless transverter power/breaker switches on the rear panel of the power feed panel to the OFF position. (See Figure 2.)

Figure 2: Wireless Transverter Power/Breaker Switches on Power Feed Panel (OFF)

Remove the Cables

Warning When installing or replacing the unit, the ground connection must always be made first and disconnected last.

TimeSaver To make replacement easier, be sure all cables are labeled.

To remove the cables from the wireless transverter:

Step 1   Remove the RF cable leading to the antenna from the Antenna connection. (See Figure 3.)

Figure 3: Wireless Transverter Cable Connections

Step 2   Remove the IF cable from the IF input connection. (See Figure 3.)

Step 3   Remove the control cable from the Control connection. (See Figure 3.)

Step 4   Remove the two screws securing the ground lug. (See Figure 4.)

Figure 4: Removing the Ground Lug

Remove the Wireless Transverter from the Antenna Mast

Caution Do not leave the transverter unattended with the fasteners removed.

To remove the wireless transverter from the antenna mast:

Step 1   Starting with the shock mounts secured to the lower mounting bracket, remove the four nuts and four washers fastening the shock mount bolts to the upper and lower brackets. (See Figure 5.)

Note   Do not remove the four shock mounts, which remain attached to the transverter. Do not loosen the mounting brackets or remove them from the antenna mast.

Figure 5: Removing the Transverter from the Mounting Brackets

Step 2   Grip the transverter with both hands and pull it away from the mounting brackets until all four of the shock mount bolts are free of the brackets.

Transferring the Duplexer

If you will be transferring the duplexer to a new transverter, remove the duplexer and transfer it to
the new transverter according to the instructions shipped with the duplexer, or the instructions in the Cisco uBR7200 Series Universal Broadband Router Wireless Modem Card Subsystem Installation and Configuration document shipped with your wireless modem card.

Replacing the Wireless Transverter

To replace the wireless transverter:

    1. Install the Duplexer in the Wireless Transverter

    2. Assemble the Shock Mounts

    3. Install the Shock Mounts

    4. Mount the Wireless Transverter on the Antenna Mast

    5. Attach the Cables

    6. Reinstate the Power

    7. Initiate the Wireless Link

Install the Duplexer in the Wireless Transverter

Install the duplexer in the transverter. Refer to the instructions shipped with the duplexer, or the instructions in the Cisco uBR7200 Series Universal Broadband Router Wireless Modem Card Subsystem Installation and Configuration document shipped with your wireless modem card.

Assemble the Shock Mounts

To assemble each of the four shock mounts:

Step 1   Place the hex bolt in the hole in the center of the hex bolt slot in the adapter plate. (See Figure 6.)

Note   The hex bolt slot holds the head of the bolt in place when the nut is fastened to the bolt.

Figure 6: Shock Mount Assembly

Step 2   Place the cupmount on top of the adapter plate, lining up the four corner holes in each.

Step 3   Use the four screws with the square cone washers to attach the cupmount to the adapter plate.

Install the Shock Mounts

To attach each of the four shock mounts to the transverter:

Step 1   Put a split lock washer and a flat washer on each of the four 5/16-hex bolts. The split lock washer goes on first. (See Figure 7.)

Figure 7: Attaching the Shock Mounts to the Transverter

Step 2   Line up the center hole in each cupmount with a mounting hole at the corner of the transverter.

Step 3   Attach each shock mount to the transverter with the hex bolt and washers (see Figure 7), but do not fully tighten the bolts until after the shock mounts are properly aligned. The mounting brackets seat correctly in the mounting bracket slots only when the shock mounts are properly aligned. Improper alignment prevents the mounting bracket from seating correctly, which could allow the shock mount to slide across the mounting bracket and move the transverter.

Step 4   Align each shock mount so that the mounting bracket slot on the shock mount (see Figure 8) is parallel to one of the shorter sides of the transverter. The mounting bracket slots on the upper shock mounts must be parallel to the top of the transverter. The mounting bracket slots on the lower shock mounts must be parallel to the bottom of the transverter.

Figure 8: Shock Mount Alignment

Step 5   Tighten each hex bolt to between 7 and 8 foot-pounds of torque.

Step 6   Make sure that the mounting bracket slot on each shock mount is still positioned correctly.

Step 7   When the shock mounts are attached to the transverter, they must not touch the fins on the back of the transverter. Check all four shock mounts to make sure that none of them is touching the transverter fins. (See Figure 9.)

Figure 9: Shock Mount Positioning

Mount the Wireless Transverter on the Antenna Mast

Caution Do not leave the transverter unattended with the fasteners removed.

To mount the replacement transverter on the antenna mast:

Step 1   Insert the four 3/8-hex bolts extending from the shock mounts into the holes in the upper and lower mounting brackets attached to the mast. (See Figure 10.)

Figure 10: Attaching the Transverter to the Mounting Brackets

Step 2   Push the transverter toward the mast until the mounting brackets mate with the mounting bracket slots on the shock mounts.

Step 3   Make sure that the mounting brackets are seated correctly in the corresponding mounting bracket
slots on all four shock mounts. If a mounting bracket does not seat correctly in the mounting bracket slot on any shock mount, you must loosen the 5/16-bolt fastening the misaligned shock mount to the transverter, realign the shock mount, then secure it again.

Step 4   Make sure that the head of each hex bolt is properly positioned in the shock mount hex bolt slot to keep it from spinning when the nut is tightened. (See Figure 6.)

Step 5   Place a washer and nut on each bolt, then finger-tighten the nut. (See Figure 10.)

Step 6   Make sure that the mounting brackets are still seated correctly in the mounting bracket slots on the shock mounts.

Step 7   Tighten all four nuts to 15 foot-pounds of torque.

Attach the Cables

To attach the cables to the new wireless transverter:

Step 1   Attach the ground lug. (See Figure 11.)

Figure 11: Attaching the Ground Lug

Step 2   Connect the control cable to the control connector. (See Figure 12.)

Figure 12: Wireless Transverter Cable Connections

Step 3   Connect the IF cable to the IF input connector. (See Figure 12.)

Step 4   Connect the RF cable leading to the antenna to the N-type antenna connector in the middle of the duplexer. (See Figure 12.)

Step 5   After the cable connections have been verified, install the cable-connection weatherproofing included with the transverter on the IF and RF cable connections (IF input and Antenna).

Note   Do not use common electrical tape, or similar types of tape, as weatherproofing because the resulting seal is not adequate. These types of tape do not withstand sunlight well. They also leave a gummy residue when they are removed.

Reinstate the Power

To reinstate the power:

Step 1   Reconnect the DC power source.

Step 2   After wiring the DC power supply, remove the tape from the circuit breaker switch handle and reinstate the power by moving the handle of the circuit breaker to the ON position.

Step 3   Switch the wireless transverter power/breaker switches on the rear panel of the power feed panel to the ON position. (See Figure 13.)

Figure 13: Wireless Transverter Power/Breaker Switches on Power Feed Panel (ON)

Initiate the Wireless Link

Reinstate the wireless link using the procedures established at your installation and the no shut command.

This completes the procedure for removing or replacing the wireless transverter in a Cisco broadband fixed wireless system.
