Using the Installation Wizard

Using the Installation Wizard

The Installation Wizard is a utility that ships with your CDN hardware and enables you to monitor and administer the CDMs and CEs across your LAN. The Wizard gives administrators a tool for managing devices from a simplified interface. At a glance, administrators can identify CDN devices that are online, devices that are offline, and devices that are online but not properly connecting to the CDM registry.

The Installation Wizard is an invaluable tool for activating your CDM and CEs in instances where DHCP is not being used, or where devices are having trouble configuring themselves on the CDN. Clicking on a device record on the Installation Wizard interface brings up a dialog enabling the CDN administrator to configure network settings such as IP address, gateway, and proxy information.

This chapter describes how to install and operate the Installation Wizard, and how to use it to troubleshoot common CDN device problems. Also refer to "Activating Content Distribution Network Devices" for instructions on using the Installation Wizard to activate the CDM when DHCP is not being used and Chapter 2, "Configuring Content Distribution Network Devices" in the Cisco CDN Software Enterprise Solution User Guide for instructions on configuring CDN devices using the CDM's web-based graphical interface.

Installing the Installation Wizard

The Installation Wizard can be operated either directly from the CD-ROM shipped to you, or locally from the hard drive of any workstation with access to the CDN subnet.

If you choose to run the Installation Wizard locally as opposed to from the CD-ROM, but have an earlier version of the Installation Wizard already installed on your workstation, you need to remove the earlier Installation Wizard before installing the updated wizard.

Running the Installation Wizard from the CD-ROM

To run the Installation Wizard utility directly from your CD-ROM drive:

Step 1   Insert the CD-ROM into the drive on your workstation.

Step 2   Wait a few moments. The Cisco CDN Installation Wizard dialog will appear.

If the Cisco CDN Installation Wizard dialog does not appear, navigate to your CD-ROM drive and locate the Wizard.exe file. Double click the Wizard.exe file to launch the Installation Wizard.

Step 3   Once the Cisco CDN Installation Wizard dialog appears, click Advanced. A new window appears listing the CDM and all CEs on your CDN.

Running the Installation Wizard from a Local Hard Disk Drive

Removing Prior Installation Wizards

Follow the instructions provided below to remove outdated versions of the Installation Wizard from your workstation.

Step 1   Check if an earlier version of the Installation Wizard, most likely named the "SightPath Installation Wizard" is installed on your PC. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Install/Uninstall.

Step 2   Scroll through the list of software that can be automatically removed by Windows.

Step 3   When prompted, confirm your decision to remove the Installation Wizard and its components by clicking Yes.

Windows removes the Installation Wizard software.

Step 4   Click OK to exit the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box.

Step 5   Proceed to the "Installing the Installation Wizard on the Hard Disk Drive" section to complete installation of the Wizard on your local hard drive.

Installing the Installation Wizard on the Hard Disk Drive

You can also run the Setup program from your hard drive. To install the Wizard on your workstation hard disk drive:

Step 1   Navigate to the root directory of the CD-ROM drive and double-click
Setup.exe.

Step 2   When prompted, choose the location on your hard drive to store the Wizard's installation file. The Setup.exe program creates a new subdirectory called Wizard at the location you specify. This subdirectory contains the Installation Wizard files and creates a shortcut on your desktop to the Wizard.

Step 3   Double-click the Wizard.exe file in the directory or the Installation Wizard shortcut on your desktop to launch the Installation Wizard.

Troubleshooting with the Installation Wizard

If the Online State column indicates that one or more of your CDN devices is not in the (Online) state after following the instructions in the "Activate the CDM" section, or "Activate Content Engines" section, use the following steps to help resolve connectivity problems.

Resolving `Needs Attention' Errors

To bring devices with an Online State of **Needs Attention** back online:

Step 1
Launch the Installation Wizard and click Advanced.

Step 2   Locate the device that needs attention by its device name (the machine's MAC address or device ID). If you see the following status in the Online State column:
**Needs Attention**
you need to verify the entered settings by repeating
Step 4 through Step 7 in the"Activating the CDM without a DHCP Server" section.

Step 3   If the device settings are correct, select the record for the device that needs attention, then click the Configure menu and select Auto Configure.

Step 4   From the Register Content Engine dialog box, click Register for each device that needs attention.

Step 5   If you see the following message:
**Not Responding**
wait 5 minutes and then cycle the power on the unresponsive CDN device off and then on again.

Step 6   When the device has powered back up, repeat the above procedure, beginning with Step 3.

Note   If the message persists, contact Cisco Technical Support.

Step 7   Click Refresh in the active window to clear all unresponsive devices from the list.

Confirming Device IP Settings

In addition to setting the IP addresses for your CDN devices, you can use the Installation Wizard to confirm whether or not your devices are using the addresses you assigned to them using the Wizard.

To confirm CDN device IP configuration:

Step 1   Launch the Installation Wizard and click Advanced.

Step 2   Locate the device you wish to confirm IP settings for by its device name (the machine's MAC address or device ID).

Step 3   Double click the record for the device to display the Edit Device Settings dialog box. The dialog box displays the settings for the machine. These values should match the IP address assigned to the device.

Step 4   If the Edit Device Settings dialog box displays zeros in the IP Address field, you will need to use the ifconfig command to confirm the device's actual IP address settings. Close the Edit Device Settings dialog box.

Step 5   Highlight the device's record in the Cisco CDN Installation Wizard window.

Step 6   Press Ctrl-SP to activate the Installation Wizard's advanced options. A message notifying you that "Advanced Features are On" appears.

Step 7   Click OK.

Step 8   Click the Configure menu and select Debug Info. The Debug Info dialog appears.

Step 9   Click the Files menu and select ifconfig option.

Step 10   Click Submit to display the results of the ifconfig command.
