Configuring RPM Cards

Configuring RPM Cards

The RPM (Route Processor Module) provides PPP over ATM, TAG Switching, and Tag Switch Controller (TCS) functionality on an MGX 8800 edge concentrator.

RPM System Dialog

Use this dialog to view System characteristics. The System dialog parameters are described in Table 10-1.

Table 10-1: Card Configuration Dialog Parameters
Parameter
Description

Device Name

Name of the device.

System Description

Provides a description of the system, including software titles and version numbers and copyright information.

System ID

System identification number.

sysServices

Number of services provided on the switch.

Up Since

Date that the switch was upped.

Contact

Contact information for help with network problems.

Location

Location of the switch.

To modify an entry in the RPM System dialog:

Step 1   Select the table column entry that you want to modify.

Step 2   Click in the entry to display possible values.

Step 3   Select the appropriate value.

Step 4   Click Modify.

To make sure the information has changed, re-select the RPM System dialog.

FDDI Station Management

Use this dialog to view CESM card characteristics, hardware, firmware, and status information. The Card Configuration dialog parameters are described in Table 10-2.

Table 10-2: Card Configuration Dialog Parameters
Parameter
Description

fddimibSMTIndex

Unique value for each SMT. Its value ranges between 1 and the value of snmpFddiSMTNumber. The value for each SMT must remain constant at least from one re-initialization of the entity's network management system to the next re-initialization.

Station ID

Uniquely identifies an FDDI station.

SMT Version

Specifies an ANSI-defined version of SMT this station is using for operation.

Note   This is not a configurable dialog. To modify these parameters, you must use the CLI.

Configuring Rports

To view and configure port information on RPM cards, select Rport from the Category pull-down menu. The parameters are described in Table 10-3.

Table 10-3: ATM Port Resource Partitioning Dialog Parameters
Parameter Description

Description

A unique value for each interface. Its value ranges between 1 and the value of ifNumber.

Type

Either ethernet-csmacd(6) or fddi(115).

Mtu

The size of the largest datagram which can be sent/received on the interface, specified in octets. For interfaces that are used for transmitting network datagrams, this is the size of the largest network datagram that can be sent on the interface.

Speed

An estimate of the interface's current bandwidth in bits per second. For interfaces which do not vary in bandwidth or for those where no accurate estimation can be made, this object should contain the nominal bandwidth.

Physical Address

The interface's address at the protocol layer immediately below the network layer in the protocol stack. For interfaces which do not have such an address (e.g., a serial line), this object should contain an octet string of zero length.

Admin Status

Takes one of the following values: up(1) ready to pass packets, down(2) testing, or (3) in a test mode.

Operational Status

Takes one of the following values: up(1) ready to pass packets, down(2), or testing(3) in a test mode.

Last Change

The value of sysUpTime at the time the interface entered its current operational state.

Local Description

User configurable interface description.
