Monitoring Interfaces and Ports

Selecting an Interface

There are four ways to select the interface (the rear view of the card must be displaying) to display the appropriate Interface Monitor dialog:

Monitoring Trunks

The Monitor Trunks category provides dialogs to monitor the following:

These dialogs are described in the sections that follow.

Monitoring ATM Routing Trunks

The ATM Routing Trunks Dialog Paramters are described in Table 18-1.

Parameter Description

Transmit CBR cells dropped

Total constant bit rate transmitted cells dropped.

Transmit VBR cells dropped

Total variable bit rate transmitted cells dropped.

Transmit ABR cells dropped

Total available bit rate transmitted cells dropped.

Total cells transmitted on line

Total cells transmitted on the line.

Total cells received from port

Total cells received from the port.

ATM Routing Trunks Dialog Parameters

Note To change the polling frequency, enter a new value in the field (or use the up and down arrow buttons), and click the Apply button. The default polling frequency is 10 seconds.

Monitoring FastPacket Routing Trunks

The FastPacket Routing Trunks Dialog Paramters are described in Table 18-2.

Parameter Description

FastPacket CRC errors

Total number of packets with CRC errors.

Total packets transmitted

Total number of packets transmitted.

Out of Frame errors

Total number of packets received with Out of Frame errors.

The Monitor Interfaces menu provides dialogs to monitor the following:

Monitoring DS1 Lines

Use the DS1 Lines dialog to monitor ds1 line performance. The DS1 Physical Lines Dialog Paramters are described in Table 18-3.

Monitoring Physical Lines

Use the Physical Lines dialog to monitor ds1 line performance. The Physical Lines Dialog Parameters are described in Table 18-4.

Physical Lines Dialog Parameters

Monitoring DS3 Lines

This dialog shows the real time counters for the DS3 physical interface. The DS3 Line Real Time Counters dialog parameters are described in Table 18-5.

Number of line code violations errors.

C-bit Parity Code Violations

Number of C-bit parity code violations errors.

Number of packet header CRC errors.

PLCP (Physical Layer Convergence Protocol) Out of Frame Errors

Number of physical layer convergence protocol Out of Frame errors.

Loss of Signal Errors

Number of loss of signal errors.

P-bit Parity Code Violations

Number of P-bit parity code violations errors.

PLCP (Physical Layer Convergence Protocol) BIP-8 (Bframe Parity Error) Code Violations

Number of physical layer convergence protocol BIP-8 code violations errors.

Cell Header Checksum Errors

Number of ATM cell header checksum errors.

DS3 Line Real Time Counters

Monitoring Sonet Line Real Time Counters

This dialog shows the real time counters for the sonet physical interface. The Sonet Line Real Time Counters dialog parameters are described in Table 18-6.

Number of Out of Frame errors.

Loss of Signal Errors

Number of loss of signal errors.

Cell Header Checksum Errors

Number of ATM cell header checksum errors.

Monitoring Sonet Line Real Time Counters

Ports

The Monitor Ports menu provides dialogs to monitor the following:

You can view the parameters in line graph format by invoking the HP OpenView Grapher application. To do this, select the parameters you want by clicking once on each, then click the Grapher button. The Monitor dialog remains open.

To display the configuration parameters for a particular port, select the name of the category from the Category popup menu at the top of the dialog.

ATM Port Real Time Counters

This dialog shows the ATM logical ports for a particular line. The ATM Port Real Time Counters dialog parameters are described in Table 18-7.

Parameter Description

# Unknown VPI/VCI

Number of cells discarded due to unknown address, either unknown VPI (Virtual Path Identifier) or unknown VCI (Virtual Channel Identifier).

# Cell Buff Overflows

Number of times the port has incurred a cell buffer overflow.

# Cells Discarded Due to ParityErr

Number of cells dropped because of parity errors.

# Cells Discarded by IngressCU

Number of cells dropped by Ingress CU (Control Service Unit).

# Rx Cells with AIS

Total number of cells received with Alarm Indicator Signal.

# Rx Cells with FERF

Total number of cells received with FERF (Far End Reporting Failure).

# Rx Cells

Total number of cells received.

# Rx Cells with CLP

Number of cells received with Cell Loss Priority set.

# Rx Cells with EFCI

Number of cells received with EFCI (Explicit Forward Congestion Indication) set.

# Tx Cells

Total number of cells transmitted.

# Tx Cells with CLP

Number of cells transmitted with Cell Loss Priority set.

# Tx Cells with EFCI

Number of cells transmitted with EFCI (Explicit Forward Congestion Indication) set.

FR Real Time Counters

This dialog shows the real time counters for Frame Relay ports.

Total number of frames transmitted with the FECN bit set.

Tx BECN Frms

Total number of frames transmitted with the BECN bit set.

# DE Frms Dropped

Total number of DE frames dropped due to queue threshold met.

Rx Frm CRC Errs

Total number of frames received with CRC errors.

Frms with Illegal Fmts

Total number of frames received with illegal formats.

Rx Alignment Err Frms

Total number of frames dropped with non-bytes aligned payload.

Rx Illegal Len Frms

Total number of frames received with illegal length.

# DMA Overruns

Total number of DMA overruns.

Unknown DLCIs

Total number of received frames with invalid/unknown DLCI dropped.

LMI Fail Frms

Total number of LMI failure frames.

LMI Fail Bytes

Total number of LMI failure bytes.

CLLM Real Time Counters

This dialog shows the Real Time counters for CLLM ports.
