Version 5.0.01 requires one or two (for redundant operation) ASCs or ASC/2s. If two Shelf Controllers are in place, they must both be at Version 5.0.01 (The active shelf controller will overwrite the firmware on the standby controller).
Both ASC and ASC/2 Controller models should use asc_ASC_BT_1.0.00.fw as their backup boot image for proper operation.
Upgrades are only supported from Version 4.X and 5.0.00. For shelves running earlier releases, it is recommended that the shelf be first upgraded to 4.0.19 or better, or 4.1.03 or better to perform this upgrade. The choice is dependent upon whether 4.0.X or 4.1.X is currently on the shelf. Shelves already running 5.0.00 will upgrade smoothly. AUSM-8P cards will upgrade smoothly from 5.0.00. However, from AUSM-8P 4.0.18 or earlier, they will not upgrade smoothly. This is due to a change in the IMA standards being followed. In this case, certain new Forum Compliant IMA parameters will revert to their default values. This was a design decision based on the fact that there are no equivalent parameters in the relase 4.x proprieatry implementation of the IMA protocol. After an upgrade some IMA parameters are defaulted rather than being translated according to an arbitrary rule.

There are no additional commands or features required for installation of or upgrade to Release 5.0.01.
There are no additional deliverables required for Release 5.0.01.
The tstcon command cannot be used between IGX/BPX/MGX. This is because whenever a tstcon is used the SWSW tells the remote end to be in remote loopback . In the scenario SWSW in BPX cannot directly communicate to any service card in AXIS hence the loopback command is not sent to FRSM. Because of this limitation the tstcon payload will be processed as a normal data payload and will not hence loopback.
When an AUSM-8P card is reset, no IMA group "down" alarm is raised, and no trap is sent. This is also true for softswitch between primary and secondary AUSM-8P cards. When the secondary recovers the connections, IMA group "up" traps are sent. Receipt of these traps with no previous alarms/traps to correlate with can cause problems on some OSSs (Operation Support Systems).
