This appendix describes installing the Solaris 2.5.1 operating system without a local NIS (YP) server. As each window is displayed on the screen, click the appropriate box or default selection for your particular installation.
Before you begin, ensure you have the following information:
We strongly recommend you contact your system administrator for the information listed above prior to installing Solaris 2.5.1.
In the following instructions, we assume your dedicated Cisco SV+ workstation was previously configured and used for other purposes. The Cisco SV+ workstation will use disk configuration 1 listed in Table 2-1 in Chapter 2. Detailed disk information in the example is as follows:
As each window is displayed, make the appropriate selection and click on the appropriate push button. Note, your response is in boldface type.
Step 1 Insert the Solaris 2.5.1 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
Step 2 As user root, halt your workstation:
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/halt
Step 3 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
setenv boot-device disk0
boot cdrom
Step 4 OpenWindows is automatically launched. The Solaris Installation Program window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 5 The Identify This System window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 6 The Host Name window is displayed. Specify the host name. Click Continue.
Step 7 The Network Connectivity window is displayed. This window allows you to specify whether the system is networked. The default is yes. Click Continue.
Step 8 The IP Address window is displayed. Specify your workstation's IP address in the box.
Click Continue.
Step 9 The Confirm Information window is displayed. When all details are correct,
Click Continue. Otherwise, click Change.
Step 10 The Name Service window is displayed. Select None. Click Continue.
Step 11 The Confirm Information window is displayed. You are prompted to confirm the name service is none. Click Continue.
Step 12 The Subnets window is displayed. You are asked, "Is system part of subnet?" The default is Yes. Click Continue.
Step 13 The Netmask window is displayed. The default value is 255.255.255.0. Click Continue.
Step 14 The Time Zone window is displayed. Select the Geographic region button to specify the time zone. Click Set...
Step 15 The Geographic Region window is displayed. Select the appropriate region and time zone from the Regions and Time Zones lists. Click Continue.
Step 16 The Date and Time window is displayed. Verify the current date and time are correct. Click Continue.
Step 17 The Confirm Information window is displayed. Click Continue (when correct). Otherwise, click Change. You are then back to Step 12, from where you may continue steps 12-16 to make any corrections.
Step 18 The Install Solaris Software - Initial window is displayed. System identification has just completed. Now you are ready to install the Solaris 2.5.1 software. Click Continue.
Step 19 The Upgrade System window is displayed. Click Initial.
Step 20 The System Type window is displayed. Select Standalone. Click Continue.
Step 21 The Software window is displayed. Select Entire Distribution. Click Continue.
Step 22 The Disks window is displayed. Select only the boot drive from the Available Disks list, then click Add. The selected boot drive is moved to the Selected Disks list.
Click Continue.
Step 23 The Preserve Data window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 24 The Automatic Layout File System window is displayed. Select Manual Layout.
Click Continue.
Step 25 The File System and Disk Layout window is displayed. Select Customize.
Click Continue.
Step 26 The Customize Disks window is displayed. Specify "/" in slice 0 with size 750, specify swap in slice 1 with size 512, specify /usr/users in slice 6 with size 765, as shown in Table 2-1 in Chapter 2, for this boot drive disk configuration. See the example layout shown in Figure A-1 below. Ensure both the root partition and swap spaces are set up correctly, then click OK.

Step 27 The File System and Disk Layout window is again displayed. Verify the root and swap partitions are set up correctly. Click Continue.
Step 28 The Mount Remote File Systems window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 29 The Profile window is displayed. Click Begin Installation when the displayed data is correct. Otherwise, click Change. You are then back to Step 20, from where you may continue steps 20-28 to make any corrections.
Step 30 An unnamed window is displayed. Click No Reboot.
Step 31 The Installing Solaris---Progress window is displayed. Wait until Solaris 2.5.1 is completely installed. Note, this step may take some time.
Step 32 The "Installation successful..." message is displayed on the Solaris Install Console. Use the right mouse button to select the System Control menu's Halt System option.
Step 33 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot -rs <Return>
Step 34 The "INIT: SINGLE USER MODE" message is displayed. Press <Return> to enter system maintenance mode.
Step 35 Type:
host# sys-unconfig
The following message is displayed:
"This program will also halt the system. Do you want to continue (y/n)" y <Return>
Step 36 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot <Return>
Step 37 The Host Name screen is displayed. Specify your host name, then press key <F2>.
Step 38 The Network Connectivity screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option "Yes", press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 39 The IP Address screen is displayed. Specify your IP address, then press key <F2>.
Step 40 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the hostname, IP address, and network connectivity. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 37.
Step 41 The Name Service screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option NIS (formally yp), press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 42 The Domain Name screen is displayed. Specify your domain name, then press key <F2>.
Step 43 The Name Server screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option Specify one, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 44 The Name Server Information screen is displayed. Specify your name server's host name and IP address, then press key <F2>.
Step 45 The Subnets screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option Yes, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 46 The Netmask screen is displayed. The default is 255.255.255.0. Press key <F2>.
Step 47 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the information on the screen. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 41.
Step 48 The Name Service Error screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option No, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 49 The Time Zone screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to the desired region and/or time zone, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 50 The Date and Time screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to the desired field, correct the value, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 51 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the information on the screen. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 49.
Step 52 You now must enter your root password. Specify, and then re-specify your root password.
Step 53 The "System identification is completed" message is displayed. Your workstation reboots.
Step 54 Login as user root. Use your favorite editor, for example vi, to insert your router's IP address into the /etc/defaultrouter file:
host# vi /etc/defaultrouter
Step 55 Now reboot the workstation to complete the Solaris 2.5.1 installation. Type:
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/halt
Step 56 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot <Return>
Installation of the Solaris 2.5.1 operating system is complete. Remove the Solaris CD from the CD-ROM device. You are now ready to install HP OpenView Network Node Manager 5.01.
