Upgrade Installation Procedures

Upgrade Installation Procedures

The chapter describes the procedures you follow when you are upgrading from a previous AIX version of Cisco StrataView Plus (8.4.06 or later, or 9.0.03 or later) to Cisco StrataView Plus (SV+) 9.1 The procedure for saving the Informix OnLine database is also provided in this chapter.

Note Prior to installing Cisco SV+ 9.1, you must have IBM's AIX 4.1 and IBM's Netview 4.1 installed on your PowerPC. You may also need to customize the set up of the raw partition size for Informix OnLine. For instructions on installing IBM Netview, refer to the IBM Netview Installation Guide.

When AIX 4.1 and Netview 4.1 are already installed on your machine and your disk is partitioned to your satisfaction, you are ready to proceed to "Upgrading from StrataView Plus 8.4 or 9.0 to StrataView Plus 9.1". It is assumed you already have access to a CD-ROM device. If not, see "Installing the Cisco StrataView Plus 9.1 Software" in Chapter 2 for detailed instructions on how to load and mount the CD-ROM.

Upgrading from StrataView Plus 8.4 or 9.0 to StrataView Plus 9.1

You perform a Cisco SV+ 9.1 upgrade by performing the steps shown in this section.

Step 1 When currently running, stop the Cisco SV+ program.

Step 2 When Cisco SV+ 8.4.06 was running, you must save a copy of the database. See section "Exporting the Current Informix OnLine Database" for details.

Step 3 Log in as user root.

Step 4 Shutdown the current Informix OnLine database:
host# /usr/users/svplus/kill_db

Step 5 At this point, record the disk partition where the database resides. Use this partition path name for the subsequent Cisco SV+ 9.1 installation when you are prompted for the database raw partition name. Type:
host# grep ROOTPATH /usr/users/informix/etc/tbconfig

Note, the output's second column is the logical volume where the Informix database resides. For example, /dev/informix_lv.

Step 6 Remove the existing Cisco SV+ related package files. Start the System Management Interface Tool (SMIT) from an xterm or aixterm.

Step 7 Select the Software Installation and Maintenance option.

Step 8 Select the Maintain Installed Software option.

Step 9 Select the Remove Software Products option.

Step 10 Select the StrataView Plus software product from the SOFTWARE name list.

Step 11 Set the PREVIEW only option to no.

Step 12 Click on the OK button.

The Cisco SV+ package is removed.

Step 13 Remove the existing Informix OnLine related package files. When not already running, start SMIT from an xterm or aixterm.

Step 14 Select the Software Installation and Maintenance option.

Step 15 Select the Maintain Installed Software option.

Step 16 Select the Remove Software Products option.

Step 17 Select the Informix software product from the SOFTWARE name list.

Step 18 Set the PREVIEW only option to no.

Step 19 Click on the OK button.

The Informix package is removed.

Step 20 Remove the Informix OnLine related files and directories:
host# rm -rf /usr/users/informix

Step 21 Insert the Cisco SV+ Release 9.1 CD into the CD-ROM drive.

Step 22 Install the Informix OnLine 7.23 package files. When not already running, start SMIT from an xterm or aixterm. Note, this package cannot be installed using "smitty".

Step 23 Select the Software Installation and Maintenance option.

Step 24 Select the Install and Update Software option.

Step 25 Select the Install/Update Selectable Software (Custom Install) option.

Step 26 Select the Install Software Products at Latest Level option.

Step 27 Select the Install New Software Products at Latest Level option.

Step 28 Specify the CD ROM device name or select CDROM device from the list.

Step 29 Click on OK button to continue.

Step 30 Click on the List button in the SOFTWARE To Install list in the Multi-select List window.

Step 31 Select Informix from the list, then click on the OK button.

Note, during installation, the install program verifies whether or not the following groups and user accounts exist:

Groups:
informix groupid=79
svplus groupid=21

User Accounts:
informix userid=270 home=/usr/users/informix72 groupid=79
svplus userid=271 home=/usr/users/svplus groupid=21
svplus-r userid=272 home=/usr/users/svplus groupid=21

When the above accounts do not exist on the system, the installer attempts to create them. When the above accounts exist on the system exactly as specified above, the installer proceeds and installs the rest of the package. However, when these accounts do exist on the system, but not as required by the Cisco SV+ installer, installation fails.

Note None of the above groups or user accounts should exist in an NIS (Yellow Pages) domain.

Step 32 Link the /usr/users/informix72 directory to the /usr/users/informix directory:
host# ln -s /usr/users/informix72 /usr/users/informix

Step 33 Install the Cisco SV+ 9.1 package files. When not already running, start SMIT from an xterm or aixterm. Note, this package cannot be installed using "smitty".

Step 34 Select the Software Installation and Maintenance option.

Step 35 Select the Install and Update Software option.

Step 36 Select the Install/Update Selectable Software (Custom Install) option.

Step 37 Select the Install Software Products at Latest Level option.

Step 38 Select the Install New Software Products at Latest Level option.

Step 39 Specify the CD ROM device name or select CDROM device from the list.

Step 40 Click on OK button to continue.

Step 41 Click on the List button in the SOFTWARE To Install list in the Multi-select List window.

Step 42 Select StrataView Plus from the list, then click on the OK button.

Step 43 You must log in to the svplus environment. Exit from root and login as user svplus.

Step 44 Log back in as super user root.

Step 45 Upon successful completion of the installation of the Cisco SV+ 9.1 package files, type:

Exporting the Current Informix OnLine Database

This section describes how to save a copy of the current database using the Informix OnLine dbexport command. Refer to Informix OnLine documentation for information about the dbexport command

Note We recommend you do not create the directory you are going to save the Informix OnLine database to under the /usr/user directory.

Step 1 Log in as user svplus.

Step 2 Stop Cisco SV+ core processes

Step 3 Create a directory to save the Informix OnLine database, and change its permissions as follows:
host$ mkdir <save_database_directory>
host$ chmod 777 <save_database_directory>

Step 4 Change directory to the <save_database_directory> directory:
host$ cd <save_database_directory>

Step 5 Log in as user informix.

Step 6 Verify enough disk space is available for the Informix OnLine database:
host$ tbstat -d

Step 7 Invoke the dbexport command:
host$ dbexport -o <save_database_directory> <database_name>

We recommend you use the name you assigned to the database during the INSTALL script as the <database_name> name. The default name in the INSTALL script was stratacom.

Step 8 To save the database residing in <save_database_directory> to a tape mounted on the /dev/rmt/0 drive:
host$ tar cvf /dev/rmt/0 <save_database_directory>

Step 9 The Informix OnLine database is now saved to a safe location.
