This manual tells you how to use your new unified messaging system. Unified messaging means you can access your phone messages, e-mail, and faxes using either your telephone or your personal computer. You can get to all your messages using either device.
In the next chapter, you will learn how to set up your voice mailbox and how to access voice messages, e-mail, and faxes using your voice mailbox.
In subsequent chapters, you will learn how to use the more advanced features of the unified messaging system. These features include:
The multi-line mailbox feature allows a subscriber to have a primary mailbox ID and up to four secondary mailbox IDs for a single mailbox. This means that you can have more than one phone number set up to leave messages in one voice mailbox.
Please note that no matter how many different mailbox IDs you use, you have only one mailbox.
This means that if you have a multi-line mailbox, some features work across all mailbox IDs, and you can set other features individually for each mailbox ID. For example, since the subscriber has only one mailbox, there is only one PIN used for all mailbox IDs, and all mailbox IDs can access all messages in the mailbox. However, each mailbox ID can have its own:
Therefore, if you have a multi-line mailbox, you need to set up each secondary number with the options you want for that mailbox ID, in the same way that you set up your primary mailbox ID.
However, the PIN you establish when you first access your mailbox will already be active for all secondary numbers. You do not have to change your PIN for your secondary mailbox IDs, but you must record your name and your all-calls greeting for each secondary mailbox ID.
