Making a Call

Making a Call

Overview

In this chapter, you will learn how to:

Placing a Call

Once you have accessed the system, you can make a phone calls to another subscriber and to non-subscribers. If you complete the call, you are no longer in a voice mail session.

Note   The ability to call a non-subscriber, or to make a long-distance or international call, may not be available, depending on how your provider has set up the outgoing calls feature.

To place a call from your voice mailbox:

Step 1   From within an active voice mail session, press *8.

Step 2   Enter a phone number and press #. (See also Dialing by Name.)

The system places the call.

Note   You can press *9 to cancel the call after you start dialing. The system asks if you want to call another number. You can enter a new number to call, or return to the message or menu you were listening to. If you complete the call and stay on the line when the recipient hangs up, the system prompts you to make another call or go back to your message.

Leaving a Message for a Subscriber

When you call another subscriber and the line is busy or there is no answer, you can leave a voice message.

To leave a message for a subscriber:

Step 1   Place your call to a subscriber.

If the line is busy or there is no answer, the system answers and plays the subscriber's greeting.

Step 2   Listen for the record tone and record your message.

Note   At any time while the subscriber's greeting is playing, you can press any number on your phone to go right to the record tone. If the subscriber has Attendant Coverage activated (you will learn about this in "Setting Up Attendant Call Coverage") and you press 0, you will be transferred to the attendant.

Step 3   Hang up to send the message, press # to edit the message, or press *9 to return to your own mail box.

Note   If the subscriber has activated an extended absence greeting, you will not be able to leave a message. You will learn about extended absence greetings in "Creating Your Greetings".
