Release Notes for Patch 5 of uOne 4.2s
September 25, 2000
These release notes support Patch 5 of Cisco's uOne Release 4.2s. Information in this document supplements the following previous release notes documents:
- uOne 4.2s Release Notes (document number 78-10986-02)
- Release Notes for Patch 2 of uOne 4.2s (document number OL-0551-01)
 |
Note Patches to the uOne product are cumulative, meaning that this patch contains all fixes in previous patches (Patches 1, 2, 3, and 4). Prior to this patch, Patch 2 was the first generally available patch. Patches 0 and 3 had limited distribution, and Patches 1 and 4 were not released. Therefore, this document is the second Release Notes document for any uOne 4.2s patch. |
For a list of the software caveats that apply to this patch, see the "Caveats" section. Caveats are updated for every release and are located on the uOne CCO documentation site, as well as the Cisco Documentation CD-ROM.
The following main sections are included in these release notes:
Patch 5 consists of three component files: uone-421s-patch5-solaris26.pkg.Z, uone-421s-SPECIAL3-solaris26.pkg.Z, and uone-421s-promptpatch5-solaris26.pkg.Z. Each of these must be installed to incorporate all fixes included in Patch 5. Instructions for installing each component are included in the readme files accompanying the patch files.
 |
Note It is recommended that you read the next section, "New and Changed Information", for important information and configuration changes that may be required in addition to those specified in previous release notes documents. |
- uOne 4.2 Patch 3 and earlier are incompatible with IOS versions later than 12.1(1a)T1.
- IOS 12.1(2a)T1 does not handle redirected calls properly and thus should not be used with uOne.
- RDNIS is passed differently in IOS 12.1(3)XI and higher. In order to use IOS 12.1(3)XI, you must install Patch 5. The recommended solution for IOS 12.1(3)XI is still a dual gateway setup because the normal test process for IOS 12.1(3)XI has not been completed and has not yet been determined. IOS 12.1(3)XI does not allow dynamic codec switching.
Additional options are now available for the bulktool utility and are shown along with the descriptions in Table 1. The correct syntax for the added options is:
./bulktool.tcl [-y] -a [-u email|telephone] <input filename>
./bulktool.tcl [-y] -r <output filename>
The bulktool utility must be run as superuser. Also, please confirm that you have the USER environment variable set to "root" before running the utility. To confirm the environment variable value, perform the following steps. Be sure to become superuser before issuing these commands.
Step 1 Type in the following command to determine whether USER is set to "root".
- echo $USER
Step 2 If you receive output other than "root", type the following commands in succession.
- ksh
- USER=root
- export USER
Step 3 Type in the following command to confirm the setting.
- echo $USER
Table 1: Additional bulktool.tcl Command Line Options
| Option
| Description
|
-a
| Adds subscribers as defined in <input filename>.
|
-r
| Removes all non-administrative subscribers.
 |
Note Amis-A users will not be added to the output file. |
|
 |
Note Please see the "Administering Subscribers: Bulk Add" chapter of the uOne Administration Manual for more information on the bulktool utility. |
When performing subscriber administration operations in uOne Administration such as modify or delete, the available search feature now returns more information. Search results are now sorted alphabetically on the selected filter (previously, search results were listed in chronological creation order).
Regardless of the search criteria (filter) you select, results are now displayed in a tabular format, and always include a minimum of these three columns, from left to right:
- Full Name (ordered by last name)
- Telephone Number (always the Primary number)
- E-mail Address
If you specify a different search filter (than one of the three items above), the search results include an additional (leading) column on the left with that information, again, sorted alphabetically.
This enhanced search also applies when performing an add, modify, or delete operation related to Secondary Telephone numbers, except in this case there are two results screens:
- The first results screen, as previously described.
- The second results screen, from selecting a subscriber in the first results screen. This screen shows the subscriber's currently assigned secondary phone numbers (up to four secondary phone numbers possible).
Patch 5 includes an operational change first included in Patch 2 that was not documented in Patch 2. Starting with Patch 2, Resource Availability Indication (RAI) from gateserver to a gatekeeper is supported, including enabling this option when running uOne Quickconfig. RAI settings are defined with the three parameters in the $PARMLIB/TNT/parms/H323.ini file shown in Table 2.
Table 2: H323.ini Parameters for Controlling RAI
| Parameter Name
| Description
| Valid Values and Defaults
|
GKSendRAI
| Enables sending (RAI) information to the gatekeeper.
| Valid values: On/Off
Default: Off
|
RAIUpperThreshold
| The upper threshold for the number of active inbound calls. Represents the percentage of MaxPorts.
| Valid Range: 1 - 99
Default: None
|
RAILowerThreshold
| The lower threshold for number of active inbound calls. Represents the percentage of MaxPorts.
| Valid Range: 1 - 99
Default: None
 |
Note This value cannot be more than RAIUpperThreshold. |
|
If this is a new installation of uOne (without a previous configuration), then you should install this patch (plus the prompt patch) after installing the other uOne packages, and then run Quickconfig. In this case, the configuration changes discussed below are not necessary.
If you are installing this patch on an existing uOne system, you would typically make the configuration changes described below before restarting uOne.
Patch 5 provides fault notification to the logging process. A new trap has been added to the LOGSUB system which will be sent to the SNMP manager when there is corruption in the LOGSUB buffer for central logging.
Configuration Steps
To enable the new trap:
Step 1 Remove and reload spSnmpTrap.txt trap file on your SNMP managers.
Step 2 Add the following to the $PARMLIB/logs/msgformats/BASE.trap file.
log_trap_CorruptE 1032 ON
The configurable values for the MaxSearchEntries and MaxListEntries parameters in the UM.ini file can be changed to improve search results when using the Dial-By-Name feature. These parameters are described in detail in the "Configuring the uOne Application" section of the uOne Administration Manual. The range of allowed values is now larger than the documentation indicates.
Configuration Steps
To allow searching for more (or less) primary phone numbers:
Step 1 In the Unified Messaging configuration file(s) (i.e. UM.ini), edit the following parameters by entering a value from the given value range:
[AutoAttendant]
MaxSearchEntries=<50-100>
MaxListEntries=<5-9>
The following sections list both open (unresolved) caveats and caveats resolved by this patch.
The following caveats include all known unresolved issues since the release of Patch 2.
- Symptom: When a new subscriber is added using uOne Administration, the "mailmessagestore" LDAP attribute is automatically set equivalent to the "Messaging Host" name.
- Condition: In schemaData.swc_mx51.ini, mailmessagestore is set as "equivalent to" msghost.
- Workaround: A workaround can be supplied in the uOne Administration/PMA code relating to the SchemaData file. Change the [mailmessagestore] section of schemaData.swc_mx51.ini. Hard-code the 'n' MSS hostnames that you want to add. Example: If you want to add 3 MSS hostnames (mss1, mss2, mss3), do the following:
[mailmessagestore]
label=MSS Hostname
value=list
numOfOptions=3
option1=mss1
option2=mss2
option3=mss3
defaultValue=mss1
- Symptom: When leaving a message, callers expect to hear the spoken name of the mailbox owner and the "is not available" sequence followed by the tone to indicate that they should start recording their message. This tone is never provided. If you press # to end the message, you will hear the prompt that the message was not recorded.
- Condition: In uOne Administration, when the value in the Max Length of Voice Msg is less that the value in End of Msg Warning field, the user will never hear a record tone and the message is never recorded.
- Workaround: Ensure the Max Length of Voice Msg value is greater than the End of Msg Warning value.
- Symptom: In the PMA software, disabling the maxloginlockout feature with a COS by setting its value to zero (0) causes the subscribers to be denied further access to their mailboxes.
- Condition: The special value of zero (0) is being misinterpreted by the PMA software and does not, from its own perspective, disable the feature. It instead causes the lockout to take effect immediately, thereby prohibiting access to the configurable via PMA. The zero is correctly interpreted by the uOne application that provides subscribers access to their mailboxes.
- Workaround: To disable the maxloginlockout feature, set the value to 2147483647 (2^31-1). This is the maximum value for the field and will effectively disable the feature since it will take an extremely long time to reach that number of login failures. This non-zero value is correctly interpreted by the PMA software component.
- Symptom: The reloadstatic token and nostart token may not work if tokens in the Schedule.<hostname> file are similar.
- Condition: If there are two entries for FaxPrint and the first token is faxprint and the second token is faxprint2, reloadstatic faxprint2 will fail and would attempt to reload the program associated with token faxprint.
- Workaround: List specific tokens first in the schedule file.
- Symptom: When attempting to add a subscriber's information, the following error message can be received. A similar failure can occur when attempting to delete subscriber information.
- The following error has occurred that prevents the application from processing your request. Error: addSub | The folder: 8045552023 was not added to the message server. Please report this to Customer Support. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- Condition: Use of uOne Administration: AddSub may yield the observed IMAP function error.
- Workaround: If an IMAP error occurs during uOne Administration: AddSub similar to the description of the observed error, use uOne Administration: ValidateSub to attempt to correct the disparity between the LDAP and IMAP records. uOne Administration: ValidateSub will alert if an IMAP folder is missing for the selected subscriber and prompt to attempt to add the missing folder(s) to the IMAP server.
- Further problem description(1): If an IMAP error occurs during uOne Administration: AddSub similar to the description of the observed error, and uOne Administration: ValidateSub is not used or is unable to add missing folders to the IMAP server, orphaned IMAP folders may occur. The orphaned IMAP folders will not permit uOne Administration: AddSub to add a subscriber with the same telephone number as the IMAP folder name. In this scenario, the following uOne Administration: AddSub error message will be observed:
- The following error has occurred that prevents the application from processing your request. Error: addSub | The folder: 8045552023 already exists on the message server. Please report this to Customer Support. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- In this scenario, the IMAP folder(s) will need to be manually removed from the IMAP server before uOne Administration: AddSub will be able to add a subscriber with the same telephone number as the IMAP folder name.
- Further problem description(2): This observed error in which IMAP folders are not created does not affect subscribers who have already used the system because the IMAP folders are used upon initial login and customization.
- Symptom: TTS plays garbage for forwarded fax and forwarded voice messages.
- Condition: Forward a voice or fax message with text comment using WebEdge. Then run uOne to listen to the forwarded message.
- Workaround: From WebEdge, select Options and Rules. For "Replying To Message," choose either "Separator" or "None", not ">", which is the default setting.
- Symptom: Erroneous error messages are found in TNT logs when running against a Vibrato-configured IOS.
- Condition: When running uOne against an IOS configured for fax (Vibrato), fax calls are presented to uOne while the gateway is waiting for (recognizing) the CNG tones. The call will be dropped at the uOne server and handled within the gateway once the tones are detected. This premature call drop will generate error messages inside of the TNT logs for uOne.
- Workaround: There is no work around for this until the IOS sends a call termination reason that properly indicates the call was a fax call. This will be handled in a later release of IOS.
- Symptom: Administrator is unable to delete a subscriber or secondary phone number record using uOne Administration.
- Condition: uOne Administration: ModSub or uOne Administration: ModSecPhone is used to change the greeting administrator.
- Workaround: Use uOne Administration: ModSub or uOne Administration: ModSecPhone to change the greeting administrator back to original value. Use uOne Administration: DeleteSub or uOne Administration: DeleteSecPhone to remove the subscriber or secondary phone number.
- Further problem description: The observed error occurs during IMAP functions. Error message received in uOne Administration will be similar to the following:
- The following error has occurred that prevents the application from processing your request. Error: deleteSub | The folder: 8045552023 was not deleted from the message server. Please report this to Customer Support. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- Symptom: TNT can core repeatedly during initialization when running on a Sun Netra T1 box. This occurs only on a Netra T1.
- Condition: The Netra T1 has a problem setting up serial ports. When TNT is configured to load the SMDI resource, it will core if it cannot access the configured serial/tty port as configured in the SMDI.ini file.
- Workaround: 1) Contact Sun support. There will be an IOS patch released soon that fixes the problem with tty initialization in the OS. 2) Remove SMDI from the LOADCONFIG line in the RESOURCE section of the TNT.ini file. This will disable MWI notifications for the server, but will allow the TNT server to start. Option 1 is preferred, but this will allow the system to start until the serial/tty port issue can be resolved.
- Symptom: uOne connection drops after activating several greetings.
- Condition: This happens with the Software.com backend. Log into a subscriber's mailbox, record and activate greeting for all calls, on answer, busy, out of hour, reach number in any order. Press *2 to exit this menu. uOne disconnects.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: A number of error messages are generated during the process of setting up a distribution list through the telephone user interface of uOne.
- Condition: An internal processing logic is calling for an activity that is not required and is therefore generating the error messages. Removing the call to this activity will eliminate the problem.
- Workaround: Ignore the error messages generated under this condition. The user experience is unaffected.
- Symptom: uOne connection drops after pin changed.
- Condition: Initialize a new mailbox with the same session of uOne. Log into first new mailbox, change pin, record name, and record all calls greeting. Log into second new mailbox using *5, and change pin. uOne goes away.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: DeAllocFail error messages are logged in TNT Sof files. These messages are intermittent.
- Condition: The reported error messages are logged by TNT when it is unable to remove a group (either REMOVEGROUPRESOURCES times out or group is in use).
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: When pressing ** (asterisk, asterisk), the system plays the help prompt instead of indicating that an invalid selection was made.
- Condition: In the Event (.Eve) log, UM is shown playing the AUD_INVALID_ENTRY_STAR_STAR.wav with an error code E-(22,0,9).
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: It can take too long to change the state of MWI indication when using Software.com Mx 5.1.1.1 under slight load.
- Condition: The interface between the Mx 5.1.1.1 back end server and uOne is not robust enough to handle MWI indication state changes to the end user phone under load. This issue is being addressed by work in progress.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: When running the notify.so and/or MWI_PlugIn.so plugin programs on a Netscape Messaging Server 4.1, with or without the latest Netscape patch2, the smtpd process grows and may ultimately cause the smtpd process to hang.
- Condition: Interactions between the plugin programs and the Netscape Messaging Server are suspected of causing the smtpd process to grow since they run in the smtpd process space.
- Workaround: There is no workaround. Monitor the smptd process when using either the notify.so or MWI_PlugIn.so on the Netscape 4.1 server and stop/restart as needed.
- Symptom: Quickconfig requires the user to repeatedly indicate a yes to continue throughout the installation setup process.
- Condition: Quickconfig utility offers numerous points where configuration actions can be aborted to allow for mistakes during entry.
- Workaround: This is working as designed. This enhancement request will be considered for future releases.
- Symptom: Codec switching may not work due to improper configuration. Additionally, DTMF detection may not work due to improper configuration.
- Condition: If the uOne server has been set up with quickconfig and codec switching was selected with compression=on (vad), then codec switching problems will occur. Furthermore, if g729 encoding is selected with codec switching and RTP DTMF is selected, then DTMF problems will occur.
- Workaround: Re-run quickconfig and answer these questions properly, or manually reconfigure H323.ini and restart cma(tnt). If codec switching is required, silence compression must be off and a no vad dial-peer must be used. If g729 encoding is required with codec switching, h245 or DEFAULT DTMF must be set and an h245 DTMF dial-peer must be used.
- Symptom: TUI passwords for primary and secondary phone numbers are not in synch.
- Condition: Subscriber is logged into TUI while uOne Administration:ModSub is used to change TUI password. TUI passwords for primary and secondary phone numbers are not in synch.
- Workaround: Use uOne Administration:ModSub to change the TUI password when the subscriber is not currently logged into TUI.
- Further problem description: Investigate objectclass=conf_msgbox values for "password" and "umpassword".
- Symptom: uOne Administration:AddAMIS-A allows AMIS-A user to have the same phone number as a secondary phone number of a subscriber.
- Condition: Check for unique phone number not applied when using uOne Administration:AddAMIS-A. Phone number for AMIS-A may exist as same phone number for secondary phone number of a subscriber.
- Workaround: Perform uOne Administration:ModSub search with search filters "Telephone Number" and "Secondary Phone Number" before attempting to use uOne Administration:AddAMIS-A.
- Symptom: uOne Administration:DeletePager, search filter "inboundfaxno" or "snaphonenumber" used, returning no matching results.
- Condition: uOne Administration:DeletePager, search filter "inboundfaxno" or "snaphonenumber" used, returning no matching results. Incorrect LDAP search filter is used in TCL code.
- Workaround: Use other available search filters.
- Symptom: A core dump of Netscape Server's smtpd then using the MWI_PlugIn.so program.
- Condition: This is occurring on a high capacity Sun Server 220r dual processor(450 Mhz) running either Netscape 4.1 with or without Patch 2 or Netscape Server 4.15 with or without Patch 2 utilizing an external 73GB RAID device under extreme load volume.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: In uOne Administration, use web browser back button and receive error of "Data Missing".
- Condition: Use web browser back button in uOne Administration.
- Workaround: Edit the file "utl.tcl" and remove the following line:
- puts $fp_html "<meta http-equiv=\"Pragma\" content=\"no-cache\">"
- Further problem description: Actual error message will be similar to the following:
- Data Missing
This document resulted from a POST operation and has expired from the cache. If you wish you can repost the form data to recreate the document by pressing the reload button.
- Symptom: After installation and removal of a patch, certain aspects the uOne software may malfunction such that the software does not work as it did before the patch was installed.
- Condition: In the case where a patch contains two or more files with the same filename but different pathnames and content, only one of the files will be properly restored if the patch is removed. An example of such files would be: /home2/spmaster/ADMIN/htdocs/MSGadmin/index.html and /home2/spmaster/ADMIN/htdocs/SUBadmin/index.html
- Workaround: If you decide that you no longer want a patch, remove all uOne patches and packages instead of just the patches you do not want. Then install only the packages and patches that you desire. There should be no need to reconfigure because package and patch installation and removal does not affect configuration files.
The following caveats include all known unresolved issues since FCS.
- Symptom: Same as in CSCam01031. Base level folder of an administrator remains after uOne Administration deletes the administrator. Messages in INBOX are deleted. In uOne Administration: Delete Administrator, if an administrator (of any of the 3 available types) has been modified, an error is reported when attempting to delete the modified administrator.
Greeting Admin: retry folder
FAX Admin: faxretry folder
AMIS-A Admin: AwaitTrans folder
Sample error message: ==== Application Error
The following error has occurred that prevents the application from processing your request. Error: deleteAdmin | The folder: faxretry was not deleted from the message server. Please report this to Customer Support. We apologize for the inconvenience.
- Condition: In uOne Administration: Delete Administrator, if an administrator (of any of the 3 available types) has been modified, an error is reported when attempting to delete the modified administrator. This error does not affect deleting non-modified administrators.
- Workaround: If it is determined that cleanup is necessary, determine if an unsupported non-RFC2060 utility is provided by the server to remove base level folders.
- Further problem description: The ability to rename a folder is not permitted in the design of IMAP as provided in RFC 2060. This problem does not appear to affect performance.
- Symptom: In uOne 4.2.1, uOne Manager reports based on COI (Communities of Interest) or COI group selection criteria may show inaccurate data. In this case, the uOne Manager canned reports may reflect too much information or extra information that is associated with another COI that was not selected for the report.
- Condition: If there are multiple COI log records being recorded for uOne Manager to process and one COI's name is a subset of another COI's name, then the problem will occur. For example if there is a COI defined as o=cisco.com and another COI defined as ou=customer1,o=cisco.com, then the problem will occur. In this example, uOne Manager reports that select o=cisco.com only, will actually report on both COIs defined above. Selecting ou=customer1,o=cisco.com will report correctly only on the ou=customer1,o=cisco.com community.
- Workaround: If the activity for these two communities occurs on separate uOne servers, then central logging could be turned off for one community and event logs could be manually transferred to the uOne Manager server where the oam.ini setup for each community's log source could be defined. Communities could also be reconfigured so that their names do not overlap completely. Keeping communities on the same hierarchy level would accomplish this.
- Symptom: When an e-mail created in Outlook Express is accessed by uOne, it will have one attachment even when composed using plain text.
- Condition: This occurs because Outlook Express formats and sends the message in text/plain format as well as text/html format. Outlook Express defaults to this behavior, and it is not a configurable parameter.
- Symptom: After recording 180 seconds of silence, the caller is not allowed to send the message but hears "Sorry your message was not recorded" instead.
- Symptom: The Charge Number field for the outbound calls in the watch h323 entries screen in umcli will always be empty whether calls are gateway routed or gatekeeper routed.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: A year entered in the message body as 00 is read as "1900". A year entered as 2000 is read as "twenty zero".
- Condition: This is caused by L&H TTS3000 version 1 software.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: After leaving a message, while hearing "Message Sent", a subscriber presses *9, and uOne does not exit. The same thing happens after a subscriber saves a message and presses *9 while hearing "Message saved".
- Workaround: Press *9 again or hang up.
- Symptom: A voice message sent to a subscriber is logged as VoiceBroadcast if the subscriber is added to a TO list which contains a broadcast list.
- Condition: When a broadcast voice message is sent to a broadcast list plus a subscriber with uOne 4.2, the message is recorded in the event logs as a broadcast message to the list and a broadcast message to the lone subscriber.
- Symptom: SNR is not ringing a cellular phone.
- Condition: Some cellular services do not connect fast enough and the system times out before actually ringing the phone.
- Workaround: The administrator should set the number of rings to 5 on the modify subscriber screen.
- Symptom: uOne Manager reports that are selected by COI or COI group may show "no data available" even though their logs are on the uOne Manager server.
- Condition: If special characters are used in the naming of Directory Server Communities (for example, ou=Company's Community1,o=Organization), then this problem will occur if this is the community to be reported on. Other special characters that cause the same problems are: ' ! $ ^ * < \Q | *
- Workaround: Rename the community without using special characters. Otherwise uOne Manager reporting will not be available for this community.
- Symptom: When a message is left for a subscriber by dialing the subscriber's Personal Access number, the caller is not able to leave a message for another subscriber, but is only allowed to leave another message for the same subscriber.
- Condition: This is a security feature of Personal Access. It is present to prevent toll fraud when a Personal Access number is a toll free number.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: (A) The umcli watch h323 states screen can be cluttered with transport address (for example, TA: ###.##.###.##:xxxx where #'s represent the IP address and x's represent the port number). (B) SNR Paging will not read back to the caller a paging source.
- Condition: These symptoms occur when a call comes into the system from a phone with no ANI.
- Workaround: Include the following lines in the H225CALLINGPARTY section of the DialMap.ini file.
[H225CALLINGPARTY:StripTransportAddress]
Input=^(TA[0-9:.]*,*)(.*)$
Return=$i1
- Symptom: uOne Administration: Add/Mod Sub displays COS with first character of COS name truncated.
- Condition: uOne Administration: Add/Mod of COS with COS name beginning with a lowercase letter causes truncation of the letter. Does not affect value selected or value stored; cosmetic error only.
- Workaround: Use an uppercase letter to begin COS name in uOne Administration: Add/Mod COS.
- Symptom: Customers will notice that names of messages in FaxPrint.src are the same as UM.src (Starting with UM).
- Workaround: Whenever you get traps for tokens in the UM.src file, you have to manually check whether it is from UM or FaxPrint.
- Symptom: The TNT stdout file can contain error messages generated by the H.323 stack.
- Condition: The messages that are being logged to the TNT stdout file are generated by the H.323 stack used by the CMA. Currently we have no control over the generation of these logs. We are working with the third party vendor to resolve this issue. These messages are more abundant when using a gatekeeper. These messages have not been identified as being indicative of any problems occurring on the uOne system.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: In uOne Manager, there is a link called "UM_Process_Activity" under Operations, which when clicked shows the message "selected link has no entries."
- Condition: The problem occurs because of leftover files after 4.2.0 uOne Manager has been upgraded to 4.2.1 uOne Manager.
- Workaround: The UM_Process_Activity Web page has been replaced by Operations/State_Information. To remove the UM_Process_Activity link, recursively remove the following directory: /home2/spmaster/ummgr/Web/Operations/UM_Process_Activity:
cd /home2/spmaster/ummgr/Web/Operations
rm -r UM_Process_Activity
Then reload the web page through the browser.
- Symptom: UM can hang and its call can be abnormally terminated after 2 hours of hold time.
- Condition: With extremely long calls (hours in duration), the call may be dropped, causing the corresponding UM process to hang.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: Occasionally, when subscribers log in to their mailboxes and outdial to another number, the UM session hangs.
- Condition: This can occur if the called party hangs up.
- Workaround: The subscriber must hang up, dial uOne back, and login again.
- Symptom: UM may terminate when an e-mail is played in any language other than the language in which it was written. This problem occurs occasionally.
- Condition: UM terminates only if the Lernout and Hauspie (L & H) TTS 3000 product is installed as the Text To Speech service.
- Workaround: There is no workaround. Contact Lernout and Hauspie for further assistance.
- Further Problem Description: When UM terminates, a core file is generated at /home2/spmaster/r410/logs/cfiles/<directoryname>. Verify that the core file is for UM by typing "file core" at the unix prompt. File will generate a line similar to core: ELF 32-bit MSB core file SPARC Version 1, from 'UM'. If the last characters are "UM", the core file may be deleted.
- Symptom: A customer can see erroneous data on CMA and/or H323 watch screens in umcli.
- Condition: This will happen when the customer loses POTS connectivity to their gateways.
- Workaround: The workaround for this problem is to stop and start CMA.
- Symptom: Caller is put into their attendant's mailbox when the attendant doesn't answer the phone.
- Condition: 1. The subscriber has attendant coverage set up. 2. The attendant has a mailbox on the same message server as the subscriber. 3. The caller leaves a message for a subscriber with attendant coverage. 4. While listening to the subscriber's mailbox greeting, the caller presses 0 to transfer to the attendant coverage person. 5. The attendant coverage person does not answer the phone. The caller will hear the attendant coverage person's greeting and the message goes to the attendant's mailbox.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.
- Symptom: Outbound calls that use gateway bridging (SNR, *T) may take 4-5 seconds to establish full-duplex voice after the call is connected.
- Condition: This issue is related to the IOS version running in the Gateway. IOS versions 12.1(01.04)T and newer resolve this issue. However, there is not a uOne certified release with this fix as of 8/22/00.
- Workaround: Do not use Gateway Bridging for outbound calls. This is done by setting RTPBridgeType=GateServer in the H323.ini file located in $TNTHOME/parms.
- Symptom: For a multi-line account, turning SNR paging off on one phone line will turn SNR paging off on all numbers.
- Condition: Subscriber has multiple phone lines associated with a mailbox. Using uOne, turn SNR off from one phone line and the SNR paging is turned off for other phone lines as well.
- Workaround: Leave SNR and SNR paging on, and remove pagers from the phone lines where you want to turn the pager off.
- Symptom: Cannot use "start system" in umcli to start all agents.
- Condition: This will only occur if the host name is greater than 15 characters.
- Workaround: Make sure the host name is less than 15 characters.
- Symptom: The subscriber can log in to the system using multiple e-mail addresses.
- Condition: If the back end messaging server is Software.com Mx5.1 and a subscriber's e-mail address is changed by the administrator, the subscriber will be able to log in to WebEdge using both the original e-mail address and the new e-mail address.
- Workaround: If you need to change an e-mail address, delete the subscriber and re-add the subscriber with the new address.
- Symptom: When subscribers are recording their name for their mailbox, if they are silent and do not record anything for up to 2 or 3 minutes, there is no help prompt to let them know nothing is being recorded. The background noise is recorded as the name for their mailbox.
- Symptom: When subscribers are recording the personal greeting for their mailbox, if they are silent and do not record anything for up to 2 or 3 minutes, there is no help prompt to let them know nothing is being recorded. The background noise is recorded as the greeting for their mailbox.
- Symptom: When users are leaving a message, if they are silent and do not record anything for up to 2 or 3 minutes, there is no help prompt to let them know nothing is being recorded. The background noise is recorded as the message.
- Symptom: After prompting the caller that the mailbox is full, uOne prompts the caller to leave another message.
- Condition: 1. The subscriber has Personal Access (SNA) setup and no coverage number setup. The subscriber's mailbox is full. 2. The caller calls the subscriber's SNA number and hears "Can't leave a message. This mailbox is full." then "To leave another message, press 2".
- Workaround: There is nothing the caller can do at this point except press *9 or hang up.
- Symptom: Unable to modify a subscriber pager record.
- Condition: No uOne Administration: Modify Pager screen available.
- Workaround: Delete the existing pager record, then add a new pager record with modified data.
- Symptom: Pressing ** in all the menus will invoke the help prompt.
- Condition: This occurs in all uOne menus where ** should be invalid.
- Workaround: There is no workaround.

The following documentation updates have been identified since the release of Patch 2 for uOne 4.2s.
The following errors have been identified in the documentation.
- The examples illustrating plug-in configuration in the "Messaging Server Configuration" chapter of the uOne Back End Servers Reference Manual can be confusing. Within the section "Configuring MWI/Pager MWI_PlugIn.so," Example 4-1 shows both MWI/paging and SMS plug-ins loaded though the section discusses the configuration of the MWI/paging plug-in. Within the section "Configuring SMS Notification on the Netscape Messaging Server," Example 4-3 shows both MWI/paging and SMS plug-ins loaded though the section discusses the configuration of the SMS plug-in. If an administrator configures both MWI/paging and SMS plug-ins, when only MWI/paging notification is desired, then the postmaster may generate erroneous error messages that are sent to the senders of e-mail (possibly external users) that the message cannot be sent because the SMS Administrator account does not exist. Example 4-1 should only show MWI_PlugIn.so loaded. Likewise, Example 4-3 should only show notify.so, not MWI_PlugIn.so.
- The "Messaging Server Configuration" chapter of the uOne Back End Servers Reference Manual contains incorrect information for the configuration options for the SMS plug-in. In the "Configuring SMS Notification on the Netscape Messaging Server" section, when configuring the SMS plug-in, notifier in the Notify Address should be <notifieremailID@email_domain> where notifieremailID is the email ID of the SMS administrator you configure in uOne Administration. Similarly, the E-mail Address valid value in Table 8-1 of the "Administering the SMS_Notify Application Agent" section in the "Administering SMS Notification Services" chapter of the uOne Administration Manual is listed as notifier@<email_domain>. This should be <notifieremailID>@<email_domain>.
- The notifier (SMS Administrator) parameter value in Table 8-2 of the "Administering the SMS_Notify Application Agent" section in the "Administering SMS Notification Services" chapter of the uOne Administration Manual is listed as notifier by convention. When using Netscape Messaging Server, the user ID (uid LDAP attribute) is a numeric value equal to the telephone number assigned upon creation of the SMS administrator account in uOne Administration. Thus, the convention cannot be used with Netscape Messaging Server.
- In the uOne Administration Manual section "Adding an ILN/COI Administrator," Step 3 of the procedure shows an Add a Subscriber example listing different entries for a subscriber. The line showing the entry "User ID Options: <use the telephone number for User ID>" should be removed, as this is not a field in uOne Administration. Likewise, the User ID Options field should be removed from Table 8-1 of the "Administering the SMS_Notify Application Agent" section in the "Administering SMS Notification Services" chapter of the uOne Administration Manual.
The following omissions to the documentation have been identified since the release of Patch 2.
- Gateway requirements listed in Table 3-3 of the "Software/Firmware" section of the uOne Gateserver Installation and Configuration Manual specify a dedicated fax gateway for the IOS Image (fax), which requires "Libretto" (or higher) code. The rationale for a dedicated fax gateway, which is principally one of support, was omitted. The uOne 4.2s product was tested with an FCS release of an IOS Image (12.1(1a)T1) for voice, allowing for an end-to-end FCS solution supported via the Technical Assistance Center (TAC). Putting fax numbers on a dedicated gateway will minimize risk, as full uOne testing was not performed with the Libretto code.
- The uOne 4.2s Release Notes provide information on dial-peer configuration that applies to G.729 and dynamic codec switching, including an example. The example supports inbound (to uOne) calls, but omits lines needed to support outbound (from uOne) calls.
- The following example is more complete, as it shows two dial-peers, where Tag 1223 is for inbound calls and Tag 114 is for outbound calls. The 114 dial-peer is the one needed to make outbound calls when using g729 and dynamic codec switching. In the example, tag 1221 is a voice class codec with g729r2 as the first preference and g711 as the second.
