Notes on Software.com

The items listed below are important caveats to be incorporated into the integration of Software.com's InterMail versions KX 4.2, MX 5.0 Rel .10 and MX 5.1 with uOne—and to be used in conjunction with the document Software.com has created -

InterMail Installation and Configuration for IPVM
Installation and Configuration of InterMail Messaging Services
and Integration with Cisco UM+ v4.1
Revision 1.2 October 29, 1999.

uOne Schema Merge with InterMail

Note   These notes assume that InterMail is already installed.

The required schema changes are included in three files:

The first two files are included in the tar file ipvmcore-mx.tar. To extract these files do the following:

Step 1   cd $INTERMAIL

Step 2   tar xvf <tar_file_directory>/ipvmcore-mx.tar

This will extract the cisco.oc.ldif and the cisco.attrib.ldif files from the tar file.

Step 3   Run the following ldapmodify commands to add the schema mods to the InterMail schema:

  ldapmodify -D cn=<root> -w <password> -f cisco.oc.ldif
ldapmodify -D cn=<
root> -w <password> -f cisco.attrib.ldif

The schema modifications should proceed without any error messages. If there are any errors in the schema mode, they must be fixed before proceeding with the integration.

Step 4   Install the LDAP Indices required by IPVM. These indices can be found in the $INTERMAIL/cisco/cisco.indices file. The simplest way to copy these indices into the config.db is to run imconfedit, and look for the two configuration keys named "ldapIndices". There is one for the dirserv and one for the dircacheserv. The contents of the cisco.indices file can be copied to the clipboard and pasted directly into the config.db.

Installing uOne Files on the Directory Server

Step 1   Copy the appropriate cisco-schema.swc_<xxxx>.conf file from the gateserver (or web administration host). Use cisco-schema.swc_kx42.conf for InterMail version KX 4.2, cisco-schema.swc_mx50.conf for MX 5.0 Rel .10, and cisco-schema.swc_mx51.conf for MX 5.1. This file is located at $HOME/ADMIN/htdocs/Ldap-Config.

Step 2   Place cisco-schema.swc_<xxxx>.conf in the directory containing other schema configuration files.

Step 3   Incorporate the attributes and objectclass definitions from the appropriate cisco-schema.swc_<xxxx>.conf into your existing schema definition..

Quick Configuration Tool

Steps have been added to the quick configuration main menu (noted below in bold).

    QuickConfig Menu
    1. Configure uOne System for calls (includes Notification and FaxPrint if selected)
    2. Configure uOne Subscriber Administration tool (Netscape 4.1)
    3. Configure uOne Subscriber Administration tool (InterMail Mx 5.0 Rel. 10)
    4. Configure uOne Subscriber Administration tool (InterMail Mx 5.1)
    5. Configure uOne Subscriber Administration tool (InterMail Kx 4.2)
    6. Configure uOne Manager
    7. Exit - You may run quickconfig later

bulktool.swc_<xxxx>.ini

The bulktool.swc_<xxxx>.ini file contains a common set of subscriber attributes such as the greeting message host, subscriber time zone, etc. It has been modified and renamed for Software.com compatibility. There are three files, each named for the specific InterMail version to which it applies.

schemaConfig.ini

This file contains system configuration information used by uOne Administration and PMA. Some examples of this type of information are:

You must administer this file for uOne Administration and PMA to operate. It has been modified for Software.com compatibility. In addition, a new section has been added to the bottom of this file. It is used by uOne Administration/PMA to find out if it is handling Software.com, Netscape, or any other back end.

    [servertype]
    dirserver=<dirserver>
    msgserver=<msgserver>

Note   If the schemaConfig.ini file is manually edited, the sample schemaConfig.ini file has hints on what to fill in.

schemaData.ini

This file customizes UMSA for Software.com. The appropriate schemaData.ini file is based on the version of InterMail. For instance, schemaData.swc_kx42.ini is used for InterMail KX 4.2. schemaData.swc_mx50.ini is used with InterMail MX 5.0 Rel .10, and schemaData.swc_mx51.ini is used with InterMail MX 5.1.

Notification

Message notification for the MX versions of InterMail is accomplished through the mwi_parse.pl script which is scheduled as a cron job that executes every minute. The script looks for messages deposited in the mwi/spool directory, checks the type of message by checking the information contained in the MIME headers, constructs the appropriate MWI record, and writes it to port 4077 on the gateserver. The notification system on the backend server is responsible for depositing the new message in the mwi/spool directory.

Note   Notification is not available for the KX version of InterMail.

Broadcast List Implementation

Broadcast lists are also enabled via the mwi_parse.pl file which detects that it is a broadcast message from the information contained in the MIME header. When detected, the broadcast.pl script is called. Broadcast.pl checks the mgrpdeliverto parameter, constructs the recipient list, and sends the message.

Additional Information

Hostname

When prompted for hostname during quickconfig, enter only the hostname. Do not use the fully qualified hostname. (Example: use <hostname> instead of <hostname.domain.com>.)

maxFolders Parameter Setting

In both the MX and KX versions of InterMail there is a parameter that limits the number of folders that can be created. This parameter is set to 100 by default. You must reset the 'maxFolders' parameter in the Intermail 'imconfedit' to a figure at least 4 times the max users expected on the system. If the default is accepted, you will not be able to add subscribers after 25 users.

Mail Quota Value

When adding subscribers in uOne Administration, do not use zero for the Mail Quota value. Provide a large number if you want to set an unlimited quota for a subscriber.
