Administering Subscriber Accounts

Administering Subscriber Accounts

System Administrators can provision uOne subscribers' profile information to a centralized LDAP database using a web-based administration interface. This information includes the subscriber's mailbox ID, uOne password, and class of service, as well as various settings and options.

How Subscriber Provisioning Works

When a System Administrator adds a subscriber to uOne, the system creates the following items:

Note   For subscribers with multi-line mailboxes, the system creates a special mailbox folder for the primary telephone number and for each secondary telephone number.

Prerequisites

Before you start provisioning subscribers, ensure that the following tasks have been completed:

Provisioning Subscribers

This section contains procedures for the following tasks:

Engineering Considerations

If the subscriber that you are provisioning will subscribe to Single Number Reach service, ask the subscriber which type of devices will be used for that service. When configuring the Single Number Reach Allowed Number of Rings attribute, consider the following:

Adding Subscribers

To add a uOne subscriber, you must create a subscriber entry with basic information about the subscriber. In addition to the basic information, you can turn on optional features for the subscriber, and add paging and SMS information. If a subscriber will have a multi-line mailbox, you can add up to four secondary telephone numbers for that mailbox.

When you add a new subscriber account, add secondary phone numbers, or add paging or SMS information for a subscriber, the system automatically sets up message notification defaults (from defaultData.ini). These system defaults are typically set up when your uOne system is configured.

Note   Typically, subscribers turn on Single Number Reach for their mailboxes and set up their reach numbers. However, the System Administrator can turn on Single Number Reach service for a subscriber, if necessary.

Step 1   Access the uOne Administration interface.

Step 2   Click on the Subscriber Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Add a Subscriber.

Step 4   Enter the appropriate data in the input fields (Table 16-1).

Step 5   Click on Submit.

Managing User Mailbox Security

The Password Lockout feature provides enhanced system security by allowing you to configure a maximum number of failed logins. If a subscriber or intruder reaches that maximum, the system denies the subscriber or intruder mailbox access, and the subscriber must call the system administrator to regain access to the mailbox.

The Password Lockout is typically set up when the uOne system is initially configured. After configuration, you may need to perform the following tasks:

Changing the Value for the Maximum Number of Failed Logins

The uOne system uses the MaxLoginLockout attribute in the LDAP database to determine how many failed logins must occur before locking out subscribers from their mailboxes. This attribute is defined at the class of service level. You can change the value of MaxLoginLockout attribute for an existing class of service, if it is necessary.

Use the following procedure to change the MaxLoginLockout attribute for an existing class of service:

Step 1   Access uOne Administration.

Step 2   Click on the COS Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Modify a Class of Service.

Step 4   Enter the appropriate Class of Service ID.

Step 5   Click on Search.

Step 6   Click on the Max. Login Attempts Before Lockout the Mailbox field. Enter the appropriate value.

Note    A value of zero indicates that the Password Lockout feature is disabled for the class of service.

Step 7   Click on Modify.

Resetting a Subscriber's Failed Login Attempts Counter

Occasionally, subscribers make a mistake entering their PIN when trying to access their mailboxes via the telephone. If a subscriber or intruder repeatedly attempts to log in with an incorrect PIN or password and the system limit for the maximum number of failed logins is reached, the subscriber is locked and will not be able to access the mailbox until the failed login counter for that subscriber has been reset to a value less than the maximum number of failed logins for the subscriber's COS.

Here is the procedure to reset a subscriber's failed login counter to zero.

Step 1   Access uOne Administration.

Step 2   Click on the Subscriber Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Modify a Subscriber.

Step 4   Select a search option from the drop-down list box. The options correspond to fields in LDAP entries.

Step 5   Enter the data in the input field.

Step 6   Click on Search.

Step 7   Click on the appropriate subscriber account, if necessary.

Step 8   In the Failed Login Attempts field, enter 0.

Step 9   Click on Modify.

Note   Service Providers are responsible for ensuring security when dealing with logins, PINs, and passwords. Your corporate policies will dictate the proper procedures for handling the change described above.
