Administering a New Class of Service

A class of service is like a template that defines a common set of uOne services for a group of subscribers. Classes of Service (COS) can be used to bundle feature sets into distinct packages that define certain attributes of an account, such as the type of service (voice, fax, e-mail, and/or single number reach), maximum number of distribution lists and maximum size of distribution lists.

The COS facilitates administration of common features by subscriber group. The features covered under the COS can be changed only by a System Administrator and can not be customized by individual subscribers. When an attribute is changed in a COS, it is changed for all the subscribers in that COS.

Each COS is unique within a Community of Interest. Therefore, the same COS number can be used with different attributes configured for different Communities of Interest.

Service Providers can use Classes of Service to define marketing bundles. For example, a Service Provider may charge customers one monthly rate for a limited set of services (e.g., "class of service A"), and a second rate for an offering with a larger set of services (e.g., "class of service B").

Corporate/Enterprise environments can use Classes of Service to provide different bundles of services to match different types of users. For example, an enterprise may have one set of users who mainly work at their desks and require a limited set of services (e.g. "class of service A"). A second set of users may always be on the run and require a larger set of service (e.g. "class of service B").

Prerequisites

Before you start administering Class of Service definitions, ensure that the following tasks have been completed:

Adding a Class of Service

To add a class of service definition, follow these steps:


Step 1   Access uOne Administration.

Step 2   Click on the COS Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Add a COS.

Step 4   Enter the appropriate data in the input fields (Table 15-1).

Step 5   Click on Submit.

Step 6   To add another Class of Service definition, repeat steps 3 through 5.

Directory Server

System-generated entry. The current directory server.

This field cannot be modified.

Entry DN

Indicates where in the LDAP database this entry resides.

A valid distinguished name (dn) from the drop down menu.

Class of Service ID

Identifies this class of service entry.

A unique number within a COI.

Class of Service Name

A descriptive name for this class of service entry.

Up to 60 alphanumeric characters are allowed.

Include Spoken Name in the Messages

Indicates whether to include source's spoken name in the message header of a message.

The spoken name is used in the system greeting without regard to this setting.

Yes—Include the spoken name in the message.

No— Use the source's telephone number, if available, instead of the spoken name.

Default = Yes

Dist. List Max. Entries

Indicates the maximum number of entries allowed in a distribution list for this class of service.

1-150

Default = 65

Max. No. Of Dist. Lists

Indicates the maximum number of distribution lists allowed for subscribers in this class of service.

1-99

Default = 10

EndOfMsg Warning

The time, in seconds, remaining before a message reaches the maximum length at which time a warning is issued that the limit is impending.

A number

This value cannot exceed the value that is set in the Max. Len. Of Voice Messages field.

Default = 30 seconds

Grt Secs. Max.

Indicates the maximum amount of time in seconds that a subscriber is allowed to record a greeting message.

Max. Len. Of Voice Messages

Indicates the maximum length of time in seconds that a caller is allowed for leaving a message.

Default = 180 seconds

Telephone Password Len. Max.

Indicates the maximum length allowed for a subscriber telephone access password.

If Telephone Password Len. Max.= Telephone Password Len. Min., then the Telephone password is a fixed length equal to the defined Telephone password length.

Indicates the minimum length allowed for a subscriber telephone access password.

If Telephone Password Len. Max.= Telephone Password Len. Min, then the Telephone password is a fixed length equal to the defined Telephone password length.

E-mail Password Len. Max.

Indicates the maximum length allowed for a subscriber e-mail password.

If Email Password Len. Max.=Email Password Len. Min, then the e-mail password is a fixed length equal to the defined e-mail password length.

Indicates the minimum length allowed for a subscriber e-mail password.

Max. Reach Nos. To Try

Indicates the maximum number of alternate phone numbers that can be defined for Single Number Reach Service. Currently, this attribute is not supported, that is, the number is fixed at 3.

Max. Login Attempts Before Lockout the Mailbox

Indicates the value for the maximum number of failed logins allowed across multiple sessions prior to locking the subscriber's mailbox.

A value of zero disables the lockout feature.

Reinventory

Indicates whether to reinventory voice and fax messages whenever the subscriber returns to the Main Menu.

If reinventory=yes, the mailbox will be inventoried every time the subscriber returns to the Main Menu. This additional overhead will impact the engineering of the systems.

Enable Fax Inventory

Indicates whether Fax services are enables for this class of service.

Yes or No

Enable E-mail TTS

Indicates whether subscribers are allowed to listen to their e-mail messages over the telephone.

Allow Subscriber Call Transfer

Indicates whether subscribers are allowed to make a call to a telephone without hanging up from their current connection.

Allow Callers Call Transfer

Indicates whether callers are allowed to make a call to a telephone without hanging up from their current connection.

Default=No

Allow Caller Transfer to Coverage

Indicates whether callers are allowed to make a call to a subscriber-defined coverage number without hanging up from their current connection.

Default=No

Single Number Reach Service

Indicates whether the Single Number Reach feature is enabled for this class of service.

SNR

Default=None

Message Waiting Indicator (MWI)

Used to enable/disable MWI.

If there is no MWI present in your system, you should disable MWI. Otherwise, the UM application agent log errors will occur.

Default=No

Diskspace Remaining Warning Level

Indicates a limit at which to alert subscribers that their available disk space is getting low.

Example: If this limit is set to 30%, subscribers will get a warning when they have 30% of their allocated disk space left.

Select a percentage from the drop down menu.

Default = 30%

Subscriber Access Dialing Section

Indicates the dialing rules to use for subscribers for outdialing purposes for this class of service. This section is also used for attendant coverage and SNR numbers.

Personal Access uOne Ini File Name

The name of the .ini file used for Personal Access subscribers.

A valid Personal Access .ini file (found on the Gateserver in the $PARMLIB/apps/UM directory)

Broadcast Expire

Indicates whether to allow the sender to set a message expiration time period for broadcast messages.

If this field is set to No, broadcast messages sent will have the system default expiration.

Caller Access Dialing Section

Indicates the dialing rules to use for caller access outdialing purposes for this class of service.

Start Time of Business Hours

The default starting time for business hours for this class of service. Used for Single Number Reach Service and for playing the "out-of-hours" greeting.

From the drop-down menu, select the appropriate hour and AM or PM.

Default=8:00 AM

End Time of Business Hours

The default ending time for business hours for this class of service. Used for Single Number Reach Service and playing the "out-of-hours" greeting.

From the drop-down menu, select the appropriate hour and AM or PM.

Default=5:00 PM

Business Days

The business days for this class of service. Used for Single Number Reach Service and for playing the "out-of-hours" greeting.

Check the desired days of the week.

Default= Monday - Friday


Modifying a Class of Service

To modify a class of service definition, follow these steps:


Step 1   Access the uOne Administration interface.

Step 2   Click on the COS Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Modify COS.

Step 4   Enter the appropriate data in the input field.

Step 5   Click on Search.

Step 6   Click on the appropriate class of service definition, if necessary.

Step 7   Change the appropriate data. See Table 15-1.

Step 8   Click on Modify.

Step 9   To modify another Class of Service definition, repeat steps 3 through 8.

Deleting a Class of Service

To delete a class of service definition, follow these steps:


Note    You cannot delete a Class of Service that still has subscribers assigned to it.


Step 1   Access the uOne Administration interface.

Step 2   Click on the COS Administration button.

Step 3   Click on Delete a COS.

Step 4   Enter the search criteria in the input fields.

Step 5   Click on Search.

Step 6   Click on the appropriate class of service definition, if necessary.

Step 7   Click on Delete.

Step 8   To delete another Class of Service definition, repeat steps 3 through 7.
