uOne: Built on an Open, Standards-Based Architecture

The uOne product is an important part of Cisco System's strategy to build an open, standards-based architecture that delivers new revenue to Service Providers. A best-of-class application built on Cisco's widely distributed Voice over IP (VoIP) dial infrastructure, uOne consolidates voice, e-mail, and fax services on a single IP network, bringing Service Providers all the benefits of a truly convergent technology. By bridging VoIP, MM.IP Fax, and Internet mail, uOne allows subscribers to send, receive, and manage messages from any access device—whether telephone or PC—regardless of message type and independent of location or time. In other words, end users may now access any type of message at any time from anywhere regardless of how they're connected to the network.

Cisco is the first manufacturer to provide a platform based on a standards-based, open-protocol infrastructure. The result is an integrated, highly-scalable infrastructure that allows Service Providers to easily integrate new services into their existing communications framework. Service Providers can deploy uOne based on the core services they currently offer, adding new, highly profitable, cost effective services without fear of having to replace network components down the road.

The uOne product seamlessly integrates into VoIP networks through an advanced, distributed architecture known as the Distributed Agent Platform (DAP). This middleware efficiently separates the application from the underlying operating system, providing a robust solution that supports the rigorous requirements of a Service Provider including scalability, interoperability, reliability, availability, and manageability.

Cisco's open, standards-based approach allows Service Providers to drive revenue through new services aimed at multiple market segments enabling them to move from cost-per-minute business models to revenue-generation models. The uOne product will help Service Providers differentiate their services from the competition, expand established markets, drive minutes of use on the network, build customer loyalty by bundling services to reduce churn, while at the same time reducing cost of ownership through a common platform.

In summary, uOne allows LECs, CLECs, ISPs, ICPs and Telcos and enterprises to implement one of the most sought-after value-added services, unified messaging, and virtually any other type of IP-based messaging application with no investment in proprietary systems. The architecture allows the continual addition and integration of applications into the network that can differentiate an organization in a competitive market, reduce customer churn, stimulate wireless and long-distance call volumes, and provide a single, unified means for customers to satisfy all of their messaging needs under a single bill.
