Release Notes for uOne Corporate Edition for Release 4.1E

These release notes support Cisco's uOne Corporate Release 4.1E for CallManager 2.4. They contain information that will aide in the successful installation and use of the uOne Corporate system. The following components are installed with the uOne software:

For a list of the software caveats that apply to Release 4.1E, see the Caveats section of this document. The caveats are updated for every maintenance release and are located on the uOne documentation site of CCO, as well as the uOne product CD-ROM.

Introduction

Cisco's uOne product adds voice messaging functionality to Cisco's CallManager 2.4. There are four manuals that accompany the uOne product:

New Features

Corporate Platform

With the introduction of the Corporate Edition, the uOne platform of services is structured on a separate system from CallManager 2.4. The dual-box platform also prepares both CallManager 2.4 and uOne for better performance and preparation for future software enhancements. All of the features associated with the Entry Edition of uOne have been incorporated in this Corporate Edition release.

This platform utilizes a MCS-7835 system for uOne, allowing the number of sessions to increase to 20, and the ability to support up to 500 users. Because the uOne Corporate edition automatically configures the MCS-7835 system to use the maximum of 20 ports, no additional purchases need to be made to upgrade the system for additional port sessions.

System Requirements

The installation of the uOne Corporate Edition is configured for a Cisco MCS-7835 system. Table 1 lists the software requirements for the uOne system, including operating system software, third-party software, and Cisco software.

Caveats

This section describes possible unexpected behavior by Release 4.1E.

In uPower/COS administration, the COS ID field value can be changed, even though you should not be able to. Choosing the 'submit' button causes error message: `An error has occured that prevents the application from processing your request. Please report the following error code "ERR-17m10012/18/97utl.tclS" to Customer Support. Sorry for the inconvenience.' This error is confusing to an administrator who does not know you cannot change the COS ID instead of creating a new one.
When modifying a COS through uPower, the Class of Service ID field should not be changed. This is a pre-assigned field which cannot change. As an alternative, a new COS can be created or the Class of Service Name can be modified.
If you want to uninstall uOne installation, then the services uPilot, uTel, uLite, and uLogRemover have to be manually stopped
Additionally, during uninstall the changes done to resource and configuration files will be lost because the files will be removed.
So if you are planning to reinstall uOne, it is advisable to make a copy of the resource and configuration files which have been manually modified since the installation of the package. The files and sub-directories in the directory c:/CISCOSystems/uOne/parms should be manually copied to some other place if you want to refer to them during reinstallation of the uOne package.
Following attributes are not relevant for this release:
AddCos: PA UM ini File Name-The value does not affect any settings. Max. reach nos. to try-The help information is not relevant to the screen. Streaming Option-The help information is not relevant to the screen.
ModifyCos: PA UM ini File Name-The value does not affect any settings. Streaming Option-The help information is not relevant to the screen. Broadcast Expire-The help information is not relevant to the screen.
ModifySub: Personal Access Telephone Number-The help information is not relevant.
uOne provides a warning about the recording time ending as standard feature and the default value of the warning is 30 seconds before the recording time will run out.
In this release, the warning value has been set to 0. Hence the user will get no warning about the recording time ending in 30 seconds. Instead, at the end of the recording time allowed (default value of 3 minutes), the user will be prompted to send or re-record or delete the message via EditRecording menu.
uOne provides for configurable greeting length as a standard feature configurable via administrative application uPower.
In this release, this feature has been disabled and the default maximum length of greetings has been set to 60 seconds. Hence end user can not record a greeting for more than 60 seconds. In addition, the administrator can not modify the maximum greeting recording duration for individual subscribers.
When a subscriber is deleted using uPower, the directory information about the user gets deleted. The mailbox of the user is not deleted and the messages which are left in the mailbox are still present on the hard disk.
If a new user is added with the same email ID as one of the old users who has been deleted from uOne database, then the new user can access the old messages which have been left in the mailbox by previous user.
Workaround is to delete the folder corresponding to the deleted subscriber. You must be logged in as the administrator. To do this: 1. Using Windows Explorer, go to the directory where the user ID folders are located. This is generally c:\Netscape\SuiteSpot\MailServer\mailbox. 2. Locate the folder corresponding to the user ID that has been deleted. 3. Delete the folder. You can now use this user ID again.
In release 4.1.1.9, uOne automatically reconnects to CallManager in case the CallManager services are restarted. The system administrator is requested to wait for 1 minute before restarting CallManager services. Prior to this release, uOne required a restart if CallManager restarted.
Each uOne application instance waits for 30 second (timeout) before the process is terminated. In order to make sure that new uOne instances connect to the restarted Call Manager, it is advisable that in case of planned restarting of CallManager, the administrator waits for a minute before restarting the services.
uOne cannot currently support 1, 2, or 3 digit extension dial plans. To support this, there will be code changes for uOne, more sample Dialmap.ini files added to the parms subdirectory, and the AcceptNHotKeys.tab file will need to be edited. There may be other config file changes necessary for all this to work.
For secretarial/attendant transfer calls to voice mail, the resultant message will appear to have been left from the subscriber's phone number:
1. Outside caller at 8047621000 calls subscriber (boss) at 8045551000.
2. Secretary with shared line appearance at 8045551000 answers call.
3. Secretary forwards outside caller to voice mail by transferring call to 8045551000.
4. Resultant message will appear as 'message from 8045551000' rather than 'message from 8047621000'.
When messages are left on the Cisco voice mail platform and the users try to retrieve their messages, the timestamp is usually off by 4 hours. This does not happen all the time. Sometimes the time is correct, sometimes it is not.

Important Notes

Installation Issues

Please note that this CD is NOT intended for upgrades, but for new installations only. If the uOne software is reinstalled over existing software, it will overwrite any existing files. To determine whether you currently have uOne installed on your system, please check Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel folder on your computer.

Detailed instructions for the installation and configuration of the uOne components as well as the MCS-7835 operating system, are located in the uOne Installation and Configuration, Corporate Edition 4.1. Also included in the uOne Installation and Configuration, Corporate Edition 4.1 manual are instructions for migration of uOne Entry Edition systems to the Corporate Edition.

It is recommended that after a successful installation, you back up your system using the Backup procedures in the uOne Administration and Operations, Corporate Edition 4.1 manual.

System Configuration Modifications

When plugging your uOne system (MCS-7835) into any Cisco switch, you will need to adjust the NIC configuration settings for your system. (CSCdr53220) After installation of the Windows NT operating system and uOne components, the NIC configuration settings on the MCS-7835 should conform to the following settings:

If you need to conform your system to the proper settings, please follow the instructions listed below to modify the NIC configuration.

Step 1 Click the Start button in the Windows task bar to get the Start popup menu.

Step 2 Select Settings, then Control Panel.

Step 3 Select the Compaq Network icon.

Step 4 At the Network Teaming & Configuration Utility dialog, double-click your NIC setting under the Compaq NICs: list box (for example, (1)CompaqNC3163 Fast Ethernet NIC Slot0Bus0). A new dialog will appear listing several configuration options.

Step 5 Select the Settings tab.

Step 6 Change the Media Speed dropdown box to 100.

Step 7 At the prompt stating the duplex setting will need to be changed, press Yes.

Step 8 Change the Duplex Setting dropdown box to Full.

Step 9 Press OK to accept these settings.

Step 10 Press Close to close the Compaq Network Teaming & Configuration Utility.

Step 11 At the prompt to restart your system, press Yes.

In addition to changing the settings under the Network Teaming & Configuration Utility, you will also need to set the Cisco switch to utilize the same settings as shown in Table 2 above, by using telnet. See your Cisco switch documentation for specifics on changing the switch settings.

If you are not using a Cisco switch, conforming your NIC settings is contingent upon user discretion.
