It is highly recommended that you regularly backup your uOne system. This prevents data loss and ensures you can re-create the system in an emergency. This chapter explains the process for backing up and restoring your uOne data.
The MCS-7835 system ships with a Compaq tape drive pre-installed. During the installation process, the Automated Installer configures the tape drive for utilization by the MCS Backup Utility. The following sections provide information on backing up and restoring your uOne system using the MCS Backup Utility. Manual instructions on the backup and restore process have also been provided.
During installation, you are prompted to configure the Cisco MCS Backup Utility to set up the uOne system as a backup server. This allows you to back up CallManager and uOne data that resides on the local or remote MCS servers. The MCS Backup Utility allows you to back up your systems to a configured tape device, network share point, or local directory. The MCS Backup Utility is placed on the shell tray of the Windows Taskbar during installation and is activated at each start of the MCS system.
To access the MCS Backup Utility, follow these steps:
Step 2 Select the Programs menu in the popup menu.
Step 3 Select Cisco MCS Backup, then Cisco MCS Configuration. The Cisco MCS Backup Utility Viewer displays.

The MCS Backup Utility allows you to schedule the dates and times for your backup service. To configure the schedule for backup sessions, click on the Schedule tab of the Cisco MCS Backup Utility Configuration dialog and select the appropriate time and date for backup. You can also schedule a time for the log files to be cleaned from the system.
All data backed up from the target server during the MCS Backup is stored in one file called MCS.tar. Each time the MCS Backup is performed, the MCS.tar file is overwritten. You will need to rename or archive the MCS.tar file after each back up to retain copies. When you restore data from a MCS Backup, the backup file to be restored must be named MCS.tar.
To back up the uOne system, you should log in to the uOne system as administrator and create the temporary directory structure for the files to be backed up, then proceed to back up the files.
Follow these steps to log on as administrator and create the backup directory structure :
Step 2 To log on to Netscape's Administrative Server on port 2500, using admin/admin, select Start from the Windows Taskbar, and then select Programs.
