Netscape Communicator Installation

Netscape Communicator Installation

This chapter and the next 3 chapters discuss installing the uOne software and its support servers piece by piece. The chapters will show you how to install the Netscape Communicator, Netscape Directory Server, Netscape Messaging Server, the Apache Web Server, and uOne using the individual installation wizards associated with these software components. The Unattended Installer (which comes on a CD-ROM) has replaced the tasks performed by these installation wizards. Therefore, the information included in this chapter and the following three chapters serves to show you how to perform a "generic installation". This kind of installation is a good learning tool since it shows you the various components you are installing. Chapter 9 discusses how to uninstall uOne and the various servers.

Please refer to the Netscape Communicator installation guide that comes with the application. These instructions do not replace the Netscape Communicator installation instructions. The following are notes on specific Netscape settings that affect uOne operations.

Note You must install Netscape Communicator v4.51 before installing Netscape Directory Server.

Install Netscape Communicator

Step 1 Obtain the proper version of Netscape Communicator Installation file (cp32d451.exe) in the directory that contains your installation files.

Step 2 Run the Netscape Communicator installation file cp32d451.exe.

Step 3 Install the application by following Netscape's installation instructions and clicking the Next or Back button to move to the next or previous dialog, respectively. Click Next on the opening dialog box.

Step 4 On the Software License Agreement dialog box, read the license agreement and determine whether or not you wish ti agree to its provisions. Click on the appropriate response. If you choose not to agree with the provisions of the license agreement, you must stop the installation process

Step 5 On the Type of Installation dialog box, choose "Typical" (the default) and then click Next. This dialog box also allows you to select the directory where the Netscape Communicator is installed. The dialog box has a Browse button that allows you to select a different directory.

Step 6 On the Netscape Desktop Preference Options dialog box, deselect all three options and click Next.

Note Do not make the Netscape Browser your default browser. The Netscape Directory and Messaging Server require the Netscape Communicator only during installation to obtain some basic information. The preferred browser to use is Internet Explorer.

Step 7 On the Select Program Folder dialog box accept the default value and click Next.

Step 8 On the Start Copying Files dialog box click the Install button.

Step 9 When the installation program displays a message box asking you to view the README file, click the No button.

Step 10 Click OK on the subsequent dialog box that displays post installation information.

Step 11 Choose to reboot your machine.
