Overview

This chapter introduces the Cisco ICS 7700 System Manager software.

The System Manager is an application suite that contains operation, administration, and management (OA&M) software for the Cisco Integrated Communications System (ICS) 7750 (hereafter referred to as the system).

System Manager supports Netscape Navigator version 4.7 (and higher) and Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 (and higher). JavaScript and cookies must be enabled on your browser. (Refer to your browser documentation for information on how to enable JavaScript and cookies.)

The System Manager home page is shown in Figure 1-1.

System Initialization

The system must be initialized to establish communications with the individual system devices. The initialization process is described in the Cisco ICS 7750 Quick Start Guide. Once the process is completed, you can use the Cisco ICS 7700 System Manager to do the following:

Configure, maintain, and monitor the system
Detect system faults and set fault notification rules
Upgrade IOS images
Set access profiles for system admin staff

System Manager Tools

This section describes the System Manager tools.

Security

Security is described in described in "Account Management and Security," and controls access to the System Manager application.

The Security page includes the following features:

Defining users on the system
Adding new users to System Manager groups
Editing profile of existing System Manager users

Configure Page

You can use the Configure page to set up System Parameters, Multiservice Route Processor, System Switch Processor, and Call Management functions, including the following:

Interfaces
IP addresses
Protocols
IOS features, including access lists

The Configure page is shown in Figure 1-2.

The Configure page has links to the following applications:

MRP Manager, which manages communications between the system and the outside world.
SSP Manager, which manages communications between system components.
CallManager, which administers call processing, user features, and Cisco IP Phones.
System Setup, which manages the initial setup parameters.

MRP Manager

MRP Manager is described in "MRP Manager," of this document and configures the MRP card. The MRP card is a router that is capable of delivering voice and data traffic over an IP network, linking remote Ethernet LANs to central-office LANs by using different types of WAN links. Details about the MRP card can be found in the Cisco ICS 7750 Hardware Installation Guide.

SSP Manager

The SSP Manager page configures and manages the SSP, which manages the other components of the system.

SSP Manager provides the following features:

Administrative information and port status for the SSP.
A bandwidth graph for the SSP or a link.
Menu bar access to the configuration windows.
Configuration windows to check and change switch settings.

To ensure access to all software features, make sure that you are using the correct browser version for this release. For more information, refer to the Release Notes for the Catalyst 2900 Series XL and Catalyst 3500 Series XL, Cisco IOS Release 12.0(5)XU.

Cisco CallManager

The Cisco CallManager page provides call processing, call control, and digit analysis of the Cisco AVVID (Architecture for Voice, Video, and Integrated Data) components. Cisco CallManager monitors all call and Cisco IP Phone activity and logs the information in a Call Detail Record (CDR) and Call Manager Management Information Base (MIB).

Monitor System Performance

The Monitor page is presented in "Monitoring the System," of this document and displays the state and performance of the system in both tabular and graphical formats. The display includes data for the following:

System
Gateway
Trunk
Call processing

Event Manager

The Event Manager page is presented in "Using the Event Manager," and controls the system messages stored in the Event Log.

The Event Manager page includes the following features:

Setting Event Log parameters
Defining actions to be taken on specific events
Creating custom reports
Viewing system messages as they are generated

Software Upgrade

The Software Upgrade page is presented in "Managing System Software," of this document and manages the software images that reside on the system.

The Software Upgrade page includes the following features:

Viewing image versions
Archiving at least one older version of each image
Upgrading images
Viewing logs of upgrade activity
