Configuration Guidelines

Configuration Guidelines

This chapter highlights the assumptions and guidelines that should be understood before configuring the Cisco ICS 7750 through the command-line interface (CLI) and contains the following sections:

Assumptions

This document makes the following assumptions:

Note   You can display the complete set of commands supported by the IOS software when configuring through the CLI and by issuing the show commands. However, even though these commands exist, you should not invoke all of these commands. This book deliberately avoids discussion of these types of commands and wherever necessary warns about the potential consequences of invoking these commands.

Relationship to the Cisco ICS 7700 System Manager

The System Manager can configure routing, switching, and telephony on the Cisco ICS 7750. The following list specifies the components that can be configured through this application:

The System Manager invokes the Switch Manager from its interface to configure the SSP card.
The System Manager invokes the Cisco CallManager Administration to run the CallManager application from its interface. All Cisco IP Phone calls are made through this application.

Restrictions for CLI Usage

Caution The user is strongly recommended to use only the System Manager GUI interface to define and manipulate the Cisco ICS 7750 configurations that are supported by this interface. It is possible for a user with sufficient knowledge to change configurations by direct interaction with the system components through the CLI. However, if problems occur through CLI configuration, you will not be able to use the System Manager to recover.

It is also recommended that the following list of tasks should not be done through the CLI, because they are configured through the System Manager and might conflict with its configurations:
