Device Defaults

Device Defaults

Use device defaults to set the default characteristics of each type of device that auto-registers with Cisco CallManager. Device default settings include:

When a device auto-registers with a particular Cisco CallManager, it acquires the device default settings for its device type on that Cisco CallManager. For example, if a Cisco IP Phone model 30 VIP auto-registers with Cisco CallManager CCM2, it acquires the device default settings for 30 VIP phones on CCM2. After a device auto-registers, you can update its configuration individually to change the device settings.

Device defaults are set automatically when you install Cisco CallManager. You cannot create new device defaults or delete existing ones, but you can change the default settings by using the following procedure:

Updating Device Defaults

This section describes how to modify the device defaults in the Cisco CallManager database.

Before You Begin

Before updating the device defaults, perform any of the following tasks that apply to your system:

Procedure

Step 1 Open Cisco CallManager Administration.

Step 2 Select System > Device Defaults.

Step 3 From the Cisco CallManager list, select the Cisco CallManager whose device defaults you want to update.

Step 4 Make the desired changes in the fields you want to update. Before saving the changes, you can click Cancel to reset all fields to their original value. The fields you can update are:

Field Name Description

Load Information

This field specifies the ID number of the software load used with a particular type of hardware device that auto-registers. If you install an upgrade or patch load, you must update the load information for each type of device that uses the new load.

Device Pool

This field specifies the device pool associated with each type of device that auto-registers. The device pool defines common characteristics for all devices in the pool.

Phone Template

This field specifies the keypad template used by each type of Cisco IP Phone that auto-registers. The template defines which keys on the phone perform which functions.

Step 5 Click Update to save the changes in the database.

Additional Information

For each available software load, there is a .bin file in the \Cisco\TFTPPath\ folder on the Cisco CallManager server. For example, for the software load P002A030, there is the P002A030.bin file in the \Cisco\TFTPPath\ folder.
