2 Chapter

This chapter describes the procedures for installing IP/TV Viewer. Topics include:

Note For information about completing an IP/TV Viewer network installation or using the Silent Install mode, refer to the "Completing an IP/TV Viewer Network Installation" chapter in the IP/TV Administration and Configuration Guide.

Before You Begin

IP/TV Viewer product files are provided on a CD-ROM or to your system administrator for network installation.

Before you install IP/TV Viewer, perform the following tasks:

If the TCP/IP stack is not already installed, you must install it before you install IP/TV Viewer. Refer to the documentation shipped with the TCP/IP stack for the installation procedure.
If you are the system administrator installing IP/TV Viewer on multiple computers, it might be useful to customize your installation by using the setup.ini file located on the CD-ROM. Refer to IP/TV Administration and Configuration Guide for information on completing a network installation of IP/TV Viewer and using the Silent Install mode.

Installation Procedure

The IP/TV product CD-ROM contains the installation programs for IP/TV Viewer, IP/TV Server, and network install. To install any of the IP/TV products, you must have purchased a license from Cisco Systems.

To install IP/TV Viewer, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Boot your computer and start Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT.

Step 2 Insert the IP/TV CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive on the computer (usually drive D:).

If your CD-ROM drive is configured with Auto Insert Notification enabled, the Cisco IP/TV Installer window appears automatically.

If you do not have Auto Insert Notification enabled, click Start>Run and enter D:\setup (assuming D: is your CD -ROM drive) on the Run dialog box. After a few moments the Setup program displays the Cisco IP/TV Installer window.

On the Cisco IP/TV Installer window, click Viewer Install. The Viewer install program begins. If an earlier version of IP/TV Viewer is running, the Setup program detects it and asks you if you want to uninstall the previous version.

Step 3 The Software License Agreement window appears. If you agree to the license terms, click Yes.

If you are running Windows NT and do not have enough privileges to update the registry, the install Setup program displays an error message and exits. Contact your system administrator for assistance in setting your privileges to the level required to update the registry.

Step 4 On the User Information window, enter your name, your company's name, and the serial number from the IP/TV Viewer registration card. Click Next.

Step 5 On the Destination Directory window, optionally use the Browse button to override the default directory in which IP/TV Viewer will be installed (C:\..\Cisco Systems\IPTV Viewer). We recommend that you use the default. Click Next.

Step 6 On the Select Components window, select the components you want to install. Clear the components you do not want to install. Components include: client software, Browser Plugins, VXtreme Codec, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer 5.0. By default, all components are selected. Click Next.

Step 7 On the Select Program Folders window, enter the name of the folder in which the IP/TV Viewer program icon will be placed. Click Next>.

Step 8 On the Start Copying Files window, verify that the setup type, the target directory, and the program folder are correct. Click Next>.

The Setup program begins copying files from the CD-ROM to your hard drive. When all files appropriate to the setup type you selected have been installed, the Setup Complete window appears.

Step 9 On the Setup Complete window, you can choose to view the IP/TV Viewer Readme file. If you open the Readme file, it appears in a NotePad window.

The Readme file contains some basic information about IP/TV Viewer, and late-breaking news that could not be included in this guide. We recommend that you print a copy of the file and read it while you reboot your computer.

Step 10 Reboot your computer and start Windows.

If the name of your server is other than iptvhost and the UDP port is other than 80 (the default values), you must define these values before you can receive any programs. See the "Setting IP/TV Viewer Options" section in the "Getting Started" chapter.

IP/TV Viewer Demo Installation

Cisco offers demonstration versions of both IP/TV Viewer and IP/TV Server.

IP/TV Viewer Demo together with IP/TV Server Demo permit a customer to see the capabilities of IP/TV. The IP/TV Server Demo provides both pre-recorded files shipped with the Demo, and one channel configured for live capture. This channel supports only H.261 and MPEG.

No Content Manager installation is required to facilitate the Demo setup. Instead, the IP/TV Server Demo provides the scheduled.sdf and OnDemand.sdf files for the IP/TV Viewer Demo Server install only.

The Demo install license key is demo.

Note You must install the Server on one PC and the Viewer on another PC. Then, you must manually enable the Server to begin transmission. You will not be able to view any programs on IP/TV Viewer Demo until IP/TV Server Demo is installed on another machine and the Viewer is configured for this server. See the "Setting IP/TV Viewer Options" section in the "Getting Started" chapter.

To install a demo version, perform the following steps:

Step 3 Click Install IP/TV>Install Viewer. The Demo install program begins.

Step 4 The Software License Agreement window appears. If you agree to the license terms, click Yes.

Step 5 On the User Information window, enter your name, your company's name, and the word demo in the Serial Number field. Click Next.

Step 6 On the Destination Directory window, optionally use the Browse button to override the default directory in which the IP/TV Viewer demo will be installed. Click Next.

Step 7 On the Specify demo server host window, enter the fully qualified domain name of the demo server or the demo server's IP address. Click Next.

Step 8 Follow Steps 9 through 12 in the "Installation Procedure" section in this chapter.

The Demo viewer installs the MPEG2 software decoder to demonstrate IP/TV MPEG2 quality.

Note This decoder is not installed by the IP/TV Viewer installation procedure and should be purchased separately from Cisco.

Uninstalling IP/TV Viewer

We recommend that you close IP/TV Viewer before uninstalling it. To unistall IP/TV Viewer, use the Windows NT Add/Remove Programs utility.
