Defining Servers and Clusters

This chapter describes how to define servers and clusters, and includes the following sections:

Defining a Server Cluster

Follow these steps to define an IP/TV server cluster:

Step 1 From your browser, access the IP/TV Control Server by entering the following URL:

http://controlserver/

where controlserver is the name of the Control Server on which the IP/TV Control Server is installed.

Step 2 On the IP/TV Control Server main page, click Server Clusters. The Server Clusters page appears.

This page lists the server clusters that are already defined. Once a server cluster is defined, you may review or edit the information stored for it, or delete it from the list.

Step 3 On the Server Clusters Page, click New Cluster on the task bar.

The New Cluster page appears.

Step 4 Enter the name of the new cluster.

Step 5 Under Cluster Information, enter an optional description of the cluster and the cluster capacity in Kbps.

Step 6 Click Add Cluster to send the completed form to the IP/TV Control Server.

For more information on defining server clusters, refer to Chapter 5, "Setting Up the IP/TV Content Manager," of the IP/TV Administration and Configuration Guide.

Configuring a Control Server

To define a Control Server, you must define your Archive Server and Broadcast Server in the IP/TV Control Server.

Note The Control Server has Microsoft Internet Explorer preinstalled. You can also access the IP/TV Control Server from another machine using Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

To define an Archive Server or Broadcast Server in the IP/TV Control Server, follow these steps:

Step 1 From your browser, access the IP/TV Control Server by entering the following URL:

http://controlserver/

where controlserver is the name of the Control Server on which the IP/TV Control Server is installed.

Step 2 On the IP/TV Control Server main page (see Figure 4-1), click
Server Clusters.

Step 3 On the Servers page, click New Server on the task bar.

Step 4 On the New Server page, enter the server information.

Step 5 Select the IP/TV OnDemand Server check box.

Although the default capacity of a new server is 5 Mbps, the server capacity can be set as high as 50 Mbps depending on the constraints of your network. Table 4-1 lists the average capacity in Kbps for each IP/TV server model.

Step 6 Click Define Server.

See "Defining Servers" in Chapter 4, "Administering IP/TV Viewer," of the IP/TV Content Manager User Guide for more detailed information.

Step 1 On the Program Listing window, click Settings>Configure IP/TV Server.

Step 2 Click the Server tab.

Step 3 In the IP/TV CM Host field, enter the IP address or host name of the Control Server.

Step 4 Copy your media files to e:\avi.

Configuring a Broadcast Server

This section describes how to define a Broadcast Server so that it can be controlled by the IP/TV Control Server.

To set up a Broadcast Server, follow these steps:

Step 1 On the Program Listing window, click Settings>Configure IP/TV Server.

Step 2 Click the Server tab.

Step 3 In the IP/TV CM Host field, enter the IP address or host name of the Control Server.
