Release Notes for Cisco IOS for S/390 Version  1.0 Cumulative Maintenance Level 9812

March 1999

These Cumulative Maintenance Level (CUM) tape notes contain information about CUM9812 for the Cisco IOS for S/390 Version 1.0.

The CUM tape label is "Cisco IOS for S/390 1.0 - EPS" and contains the following PTFs:

VOL=SER=PTFTAP (NL)

Note For Cisco IOS for S/390 Version 1.0, installation of CUM9712 is prerequisite to installation of CUM9812.

This document contains the following sections:

Installation Notes

This maintenance tape is designed to be installed after CUM9712. CUM9712 must be applied before you can apply CUM9812.

With this update release, you receive a tape with the VOL=SER=PTFTAP that contains all the maintenance supplied with this update. You also receive a Release Note that describes the enhancements and amendments that the tape contains. Please review all the enclosed materials before implementing this update.

When applying cumulative maintenance, issue a P CLEAR shutdown command to ensure that all Cisco IOS for S/390 control blocks are refreshed.

Caution
SOC4 or SOC6 abends might occur if you apply maintenance to active libraries. Use the P  CLEAR command to correct these.

P/390 Installations

The new P/390 systems software does not include the IEV90 assembler. To specify ASMBLR as the program name instead of IEV90, update the IEV90 options entry to point to LOAD module program name ASMBLR.

Installing the Maintenance Tape

The Cisco IOS for S/390 Version 1.0 software product is packaged for installation and maintenance using IBM's SMP/E software product.

This tape contains maintenance for Cisco IOS for S/390 Version 1.0 and Enterprise Print Services (EPS) Version 1.0.

Before installing this maintenance tape, do the following:

   ++HOLD(TP06256)
   FMID(T000410)
   SYSTEM
   REASON(ACTION)
   COMMENT(
Customer applications that were compiled using the SAS C 6.0 compiler need to apply this PTF. Applications compiled using the SAS C 5.5 compiler and below are still supported. Applications needing the SAS C 6.0 version of the runtime load module (LSCNCOM) will need to concatenate the SAS C 6.0 data set ahead of SAS's linklib and Interlink's TCP/IP load and link libraries.
The following information is a sample of the UCLIN used to add a DDDEF for the SAS C 6.0 data set required to install this APAR:
 SET BOUNDARY(TCPTZN) .
 UCLIN .
 /*     MVS TCP/IP  TARGET LIBRARIES      */
 ADD DDDEF(SAS6LOAD)
 DATASET(high.level.SAS6LOAD)
 SHR .
 ENDUCL .

A SAS C 6.0 data set must be preallocated prior to installation of this APAR. The data set can be allocated with the following attributes:
 ?/SAS6LOAD DD  DSN=high.level.SAS6LOAD,
 //         DISP=(NEW,CATLG,DELETE),UNIT=unit,
 //         SPACE=(6144,(210,105,10)),VOL=SER=volser,
 //         DCB=(DSORG=PO,RECFM=U,BLKSIZE=6144)

To verify that all applied PTFs have been accepted, run an SMP/E cross-reference job using the following parameters in your SMPCNTL DD card:

SET BDY(TCPTZN)
LIST SYSMODS NOACCEPT(TCPDZN)

Review the output from this job for any USERMODS or APARS you have applied. You might need to use SMP/E to RESTORE the USERMODS and APARS and reapply them after installing CUM9812.

Contact the Interlink Technical Response Center if you need updates to any APARs on your system.

You must load the latest HOLDDATA, which you can get in any of the following ways:

Step 1 FTP to ftp.interlink.com.

Step 2 Login as anonymous and use the password e-mail.

Step 3 Change into the pub/ptf410 directory.

Step 4 Enter the following:

    bin
    get HOLD
    bye
You can receive e-mail notification of changes in HOLDDATA automatically when the HOLDDATA list is changed, with a copy of the actual list text enclosed in the body of the message. This can be copied into JCL or manipulated without having to retype it.
Send e-mail to support@interlink.com with the Internet-style e-mail address of the person to receive the message at the customer site.

Applying the CUM Tape

Use the following JCL to receive and apply the maintenance. Add a SOURCEID(CUM9812) to identify the distribution level of these PTFs.

The following JCL stream is provided in the CNTL library SMPECUMT for applying CUM tapes:

//SMPECUMT JOB
//*
//* THIS JCL IS FOR APPLYING SMP/E CUMULATIVE MAINTENANCE
//* FOR MVS TCP/IP AND RELATED PRODUCTS.

PTF List

A tape map is included with the CUM9812 maintenance tape that lists the PTFs that are on this tape. If you would like a list of the PTFs that includes a description for each, you can obtain a copy of the current $$INDEX file. This file is available online or you can request a copy by contacting the Interlink Technical Response Center.

You can obtain the $$INDEX file via anonymous FTP by logging in to host ftp.interlink.com and requesting it, as shown in the following example:

ftp ftp.interlink.com
cd pub/ptf410
get INDEX
bye

Known Problems and Limitations

This section describes known problems and limitations in Cisco IOS for S/390 Version 1.0.

Cisco IOS for S/390 returns EWOULDBLOCK to provide compatibility with IBM TCP/IP for MVS. Some non-MVS socket implementations may return EAGAIN as specified in POSIX documents. Check for both to ensure maximum portability.
To avoid this error, apply IBM PTF UW26269 prior to installation.

Corresponding Technical Notes

The following technical notes describe the features and enhancements included in CUM9812:

Note Make sure you have incorporated the documentation changes for CUM9712 before adding the documentation changes for CUM9812.

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.

You can access CCO in the following ways:
