Important Notes

H.323 and SIP Issues in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(3)XI

Due to a number of issues with H.323 and session initiation protocol (SIP) voice support on the Cisco AS5300, Cisco AS5800, Cisco 2600 series, Cisco 3600 series Cisco 7200 series and Cisco MC3810 series that arose in Cisco IOS Release 12.1 T, use of maintenance release 12.1(3)XI is strongly discouraged.

Due to the many customers who use these products for dial applications and significant new functionality introduced in these releases, this version of software is being made available for dial applications.

Cisco recommends H.323 and SIP users to migrate to Cisco IOS Release 12.1(4)T or Cisco IOS rebuild Release 12.1(3a)XI1. Cisco IOS rebuild Release 12.1(3a)XI1 has been released for critical fixes presently in H.323 and SIP issues.

The problems with voice in this release are being tracked in the following DDTS reports:

For a more detailed Field Notice report see:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/770/fn12860.shtml

Caveats

Caveats describe unexpected behavior in Cisco IOS software releases. Severity 1 caveats are the most serious caveats; severity 2 caveats are less serious.

This section only contains open and resolved caveats for the current Cisco IOS maintenance release.

All caveats in Cisco IOS Release 12.1 and Cisco IOS Release 12.1 T are also in Cisco IOS Release 12.1 XI.

For information on caveats in Cisco IOS Release 12.1, see Caveats for Cisco  IOS Release 12.1.

For information on caveats in Cisco IOS Release 12.1 T, see Caveats for Cisco  IOS Release 12.1 T , which lists severity 1 and 2 caveats and is located on CCO and on the Documentation CD-ROM.

Open Caveats—Cisco IOS Release 12.1(3a) XI1

This section describes possibly unexpected behavior by Cisco IOS Release 12.1(3a)XI1 and describes only severity 1 and 2 caveats:

Miscellaneous

VoATM does not carry called_oct3 and calling_oct3 fields in the setup message. There is no workaround.

Closed or Resolved Caveats—Cisco IOS Release 12.1(3a)XI

All caveats listed in this section are resolved in Cisco IOS Release 12.1(3a)XI1. This section describes severity 1 and 2 caveats:

Miscellaneous

The command line interface (CLI) parser does not accept command lines exceeding 256 characters. Due to this limitation, gatekeeper configurations that exceed 256 characters such as the zone prefix command or the gw-type-prefix command cannot be saved to NVRAM (they are truncated to 256 characters). There is no workaround.
A directory gatekeeper configured with multiple remote zones with a default sequential location request (LRQ) fails to send or forward the LRQs in sequential manner as a default behavior, but rather it sends them out in blasting mode. There is no work around.
The Cisco CallManager sends a NOTIFY message lacking User to User IE (UUIE), immediately after the VoIP call is setup if the DISPLAY option is enabled. The IOS Voice gateway expects the UUIE to be present in the NOTIFY message by default. The H.225 standard does not mandate this parameter to be present for the NOTIFY message. The decoding logic on the IOS gateway incorrectly reports the correctly encoded message by the Cisco CallManager as incorrectly encoded. Under these conditions the STATUS message is sent to the Cisco CallManager and the call is disconnected in some cases.
This fix resolve the issues with NOTIFY message.
The H.245 control channel is opened with the KEEPALIVE option set for the TCP socket. This option causes the H.245 control channel (TCP connection) to randomly drop under heavy work load on the Cisco CallManager, because the periodic KEEPALIVE messages do not respond within the allowed time. As a result of the H.245 control channel closure, the active call is dropped. The fix disables the TCP KEEPALIVE option for the H.245 control channel.

Note   If you have an account with CCO, you can use Bug Navigator II to find caveats of any severity for any release. To reach Bug Navigator II, log in to CCO, and click Service & Support: Software Center: Cisco IOS Software: Cisco Bugtool Navigator II. Another option is to go to http://www.cisco.com/support/bugtools.

Cisco IOS Software Documentation Set

The Cisco IOS software documentation set consists of the Cisco IOS configuration guides, Cisco IOS command references, and several other supporting documents that are shipped with your order in electronic form on the Documentation CD-ROM—unless you specifically order the printed versions.

Documentation Modules

Each module in the Cisco IOS documentation set consists of two books: a configuration guide and a corresponding command reference. Chapters in a configuration guide describe protocols, configuration tasks, Cisco IOS software functionality, and contain comprehensive configuration examples. Chapters in a command reference provide complete command syntax information. Use each configuration guide with its corresponding command reference.

On CCO and on the Documentation CD-ROM, two master hot-linked documents provide information for the Cisco IOS software documentation set.
