Overview of CiscoWorks2000 Voice Manager 2.0
This chapter provides overview information about CiscoWorks2000 Voice Manager (CVM) 2.0. It also describes planning information you can use before installing CVM and the system requirements for CVM.
This chapter contains the following sections:
CVM is a client-server, web-based voice management solution used by network administrators to configure and manage voice ports and create and modify dial plans on voice-enabled Cisco routers. Using CVM, network administrators can:
- Manage the configuration of FXO, FXS, E&M, and ISDN voice interfaces on voice-enabled routers
- Create and manage local (POTS) dial plans on voice-enabled routers
- Create and manage VoIP, VoFR, and VoATM network dial plans on voice-enabled routers
- Generate detailed reports using Telemate.net Quickview
CVM is a client-server, web-based voice management solution. The following list describes some of the key features of CVM:
- Voice Port Management---Manage the configuration of FXO, FXS, E&M, and ISDN configurations in single or batch mode.
- Dial Plan Management---Create and manage local dial plans and VoIP, VoFR, and VoATM network dial plans.
- Report Generation---See the Telemate.net Quickview documentation for complete details of the reports you can generate.
- Multiple Platform Support---CVM clients can run in web browsers running Windows 95, Windows NT, or Solaris platforms.
- Integration with Cisco Works 2000 CD One---CVM is integrated with CiscoWorks2000 CD One, which provides a common platform for running different applications that manage a wide variety of router functions.
- Scalability---CVM can scale to support combinations of the following voice-enabled Cisco routers: Cisco 1700 series, Cisco 2600 series, Cisco 3600 series, Cisco MC3810 multiservice access concentrator, Cisco AS5300 series universal access server, and Cisco 7200/7500 series.
The CVM server runs on a Windows NT machine and CVM clients access the server using a browser running Windows 95, Windows NT, or Solaris. (See Figure 1-1.)

Before you can use CVM to manage your voice network:
- You must have network access to all routers and gatekeepers that are going to be added to CVM.
- Telnet must be enabled on all routers that are going to be added to CVM. Because Telnet is used by CVM to communicate with a router, session timeout should be configured to a non-zero value for all tty lines (see the "Routers" section).
- SNMP must be enabled on all routers and gatekeepers that are going to be added to CVM.
- All gatekeepers that are going to be added to CVM must be running Cisco IOS software (see Table 1-1).
- You need to know the IP address of each router or gatekeeper you are going to add to CVM.
- You need to know all passwords for a router or gatekeeper you are going to add to CVM.
- You need to know the SNMP read community string for a router or gatekeeper you are going to add to CVM.

Note CVM is not a device configuration tool. Devices supported by CVM must first be configured through the command-line interface (CLI) and have Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) enabled before they can be managed by CVM. You can then use CVM to modify the configuration of voice ports and create and manage local and network dial plans. |
Table 1-1 specifies the Cisco voice-enabled routers that can be managed by CVM and the minimum Cisco IOS release on the router.

This section defines the minimum system requirements for CVM.

Note System requirements for the server are based on software requirements and a call volume of 96,000 calls per hour. The call volume is based on an estimated 20 calls per DS0 channel, 3 minutes holding time, and 60 busy minutes. |
