Protocol Zoom lets you see protocol information that is collected by a specific agent in more detail.
The following sections contain information about working with Protocol Zoom:
Before using Protocol Zoom, you would typically first use a multisegment, multidomain tool (such as the Protocol Monitor application) to get a basic idea of which segment of your network you want to monitor, then use the single-agent, multidomain Protocol Zoom application to examine that segment more closely. With Protocol Zoom, you can see how different components within a protocol family (children and grandchildren) are being used on a selected segment.
To start Protocol Zoom, follow these steps:
Step 1 From the TrafficDirector main window, click the Protocol radio button.
Step 2 Click the Agent, Switch, or Frame Relay radio button.
Step 3 Do one of the following:
Step 4 Select a Domain Name from the list under the Domain Name heading.
If you do not select a domain name, the default domain RMON is used.
Step 5 Click the Protocol Zoom icon.
The Protocol Zoom window is displayed (Figure 23-1).

The Protocol Zoom window provides two separate but related displays:
By default, information displayed in the grandchildren display corresponds to the first protocol on the graph in the children display. To view information in the grandchildren display for a different protocol, click the box to the left of the protocol name, or click directly on the graph. The grandchildren display will refresh to show the grandchildren that correspond to the selected protocol. If grandchildren are not defined for a particular protocol, the following message is displayed:
Cannot zoom-in
The following sections contain more information about working with Protocol Zoom displays:
By default, the Protocol Zoom window displays the utilization and the agent name; however, other display options are available. To select a different viewing option, select an option from the View menu.
Table 23-1 describes the Protocol Zoom viewing options.
| This Viewing Option... | Displays This Information |
|---|---|
Network utilization used by each protocol as a percentage of the available bandwidth | |
Kilobytes per second | |
Packets per second | |
Agent name at the bottom of each graph | |
IP address of the agent at the bottom of each graph |
By default, the Protocol Zoom window displays a 3-D vertical bar graph; however, you can change the format of the information displayed. When you select a format option, the graph changes to display the information differently. To select a format option, select an option from the Format menu.
Table 23-2 describes the Protocol Zoom format options.
| This Format Option... | Provides This Type of Display |
|---|---|
2-D Bar | Two-dimensional vertical bar graph |
3-D Bar | Three-dimensional vertical bar graph |
Pie | Pie chart graph |
Horizontal Bar | Two-dimensional or three-dimensional horizontal bar graph |
