Release Notes for TrafficDirector Windows Release 4.1.3

Introduction

These release notes describe the features and caveats for TrafficDirector Windows Release 4.1.3. Refer to the TrafficDirector Windows Software Configuration Guide for detailed information.

Choosing an Installation Path

If you had installed TrafficDirector Release 3.3 as part of CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks (CWSI) 1.x, you can overwrite it with Release 4.1.3, or you can install Release 4.1.3 in a separate directory. When Release 3.3 and Release 4.1.3 are installed in separate directories, you can run them concurrently.

To overwrite Release 3.3 in the CWSI directory, select the CWSI directory path, c:/TrafficDirector, and install Release 4.1.3.

To install Release 4.1.3 in a separate directory, select a different path, and install Release 4.1.3.

Compatibility with SwitchProbe Devices

Taking full advantage of TrafficDirector Release 4.1.3 requires SwitchProbe Release 3.1.0 or later. Refer to the SwitchProbe Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.

Editing InterSwitch Link Filters

TrafficDirector Release 4.1.3 includes 11 predefined ISL filters for monitoring VLAN traffic:

You can edit these filters to monitor additional VLANs by changing the VLAN ID binary values in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU and VLAN (H-8Bit) fields in the Filter Editor window.

To edit one of the predefined ISL filters, follow this procedure:

Step 1 Determine the binary value of the VLAN ID you want to monitor:

If the VLAN ID is less than 128, determine the 7-bit value. For instance, the 7-bit value of VLAN ID 12 is 0001100.


If the VLAN ID is greater than 128, determine the high-bit (8-bit) and low-bit (7-bit) values. For instance, the high-bit and low-bit values of VLAN ID 1000 are 00000111 and 1101000, respectively.


Step 2 Launch the Filter Editor from the TrafficDirector main window.

Step 3 Select one of the ISL filters.

Step 4 Click Edit. The Edit Filter window appears and displays the filter information for the ISL filter you selected.

Step 5 Enter a new name for the ISL filter in the Filter Name field.

Step 6 Change the values in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU and VLAN (H-8Bit) fields using the values you determined in Step 1 to reflect the new VLAN ID you want to monitor. The following conditions apply:

If the VLAN ID is less than 128, enter the 7-bit value in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU field. (Ensure that the VLAN (H-8Bit) field is empty.) For instance, if the 7-bit value is 0001100, you would enter it in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU field as follows:


If the VLAN ID is greater than 128, enter the high-bit (8-bit) value in the VLAN (H-8Bit) field and the low-bit (7-bit) value in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU field.


For instance, if the high-bit value is 00000111, you would enter it in the VLAN (H-8Bit) field as follows:


If the low-bit value is 1101000, you would enter it in the VLAN (L-7Bit)+BPDU field as follows:


Step 7 Click OK to enter the changes.

Installing TrafficDirector on Windows NT 4.0 Platforms

When you install TrafficDirector on a Windows NT 4.0 platform, you might see a dialog box that displays the following message:

ntvdm.exe - Bad Image - Application of DLL c:\temp\~glf3911.tmp is not a valid windows NT image. Please check this against your installation diskette.

This message does not reflect a problem with the installation; click OK to continue.

Viewing Switch Ports from Trap Manager

When you use the Trap Manager application with a selected switch, Trap Manager only shows the status of one switch port. To view the status of other switch ports on the switch, select the Agent option from the Scope menu, and select a switch port from the Scope Agent list.

Caveats

The following caveats describe possibly unexpected behavior by Release 4.1.3:

If pings are successful when running a TCP/IP stack that is not listed above, delete the TrafficDirector default pingoff file from the c:\traffdir\usr directory. If you do not delete the default pingoff file after the agent is selected and the test is successful, the Ping: Not Supported message is displayed in the top part of the Agent Test dialog box. After you delete the pingoff file, the Ping: Successful message is displayed.
To work around this, save the report configuration file by changing the directory to c:\traffdir\usr, and then click Load.
To work around this, select an agent from the Agents list in the TrafficDirector main window, and then launch the application.

Cisco Connection Online

Cisco Connection Online (CCO) is Cisco Systems' primary, real-time support channel. Maintenance customers and partners can self-register on CCO to obtain additional information and services.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, CCO provides a wealth of standard and value-added services to Cisco's customers and business partners. CCO services include product information, product documentation, software updates, release notes, technical tips, the Bug Navigator, configuration notes, brochures, descriptions of service offerings, and download access to public and authorized files.

CCO serves a wide variety of users through two interfaces that are updated and enhanced simultaneously: a character-based version and a multimedia version that resides on the World Wide Web (WWW). The character-based CCO supports Zmodem, Kermit, Xmodem, FTP, and Internet e-mail, and it is excellent for quick access to information over lower bandwidths. The WWW version of CCO provides richly formatted documents with photographs, figures, graphics, and video, as well as hyperlinks to related information.
