CWSI Installation Guide for Windows NT

CWSI Installation Guide for Windows NT

CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks (CWSI) is a set of three network management applications: CiscoView, VlanDirector, and TrafficDirector.

This booklet provides the following information and procedures:

Instructions are also provided for removing CWSI from your system.

System and Network Requirements

Before you install CWSI, make sure your system has enough disk space and meets the requirements listed here.

Software

You must install Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 to run CWSI. CWSI uses the native WINSOCK stacks supplied with Windows NT.

CWSI runs in one of three ways, depending on your system type:

Hardware

The following components are the minimum hardware requirements for running CWSI:

Preparing to Install CWSI

Before you install CWSI, locate the pink sheet in the CWSI package containing the TrafficDirector serial number, password, and expiration date (referred to as the evaluation number, evaluation password, and evaluation expiration date on the pink sheet). You will need to enter this information during the installation.

Installing CWSI

The CWSI installation is accomplished in two stages. First, CiscoView is installed, and then VlanDirector and TrafficDirector are installed. The installation procedures perform the following functions:

Installing CiscoView

Follow these steps to install the CiscoView component of CWSI:

  1. Insert the CWSI CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. In the Windows NT Program Manager window, select File>Run.

  3. Enter the following path name in the Run dialog box (using the appropriate letter for your CD-ROM drive):

    cdrom_drive:\cww\setup.exe

The Welcome dialog box appears. Click Next.

  4. Click Next. The User Information dialog box appears.

  5. Enter your name and company, and click Next. The Select Installation Option dialog box appears.

  6. Click on one of the following CiscoView installation options, and then click Next.

  1. You can leave the default destination or enter the directory in which you want to install CiscoView. A browse button is provided for finding the directory.

  2. After choosing the destination directory, click Next.
**before**If your system already has a previous version of CiscoView installed, you can choose to install the new version in the same directory. This automatically removes the previous version. If you choose to install CiscoView in a different directory, the previous version is not removed and might not function properly.@@before@@Caution **after**If your system already has a previous version of CiscoView installed, you can choose to install the new version in the same directory. The Copying Files display appears, showing you the percentage of the program successfully installed.

The Setup Complete dialog box appears, giving you the option to read the CiscoView ReadMe file or start CiscoView now.

  1. Select one of the following options and click Finish to complete the CiscoView installation.

The options that appear for you depend on your system type:

Installing VlanDirector and TrafficDirector

Follow these steps to install the VlanDirector and TrafficDirector components of CWSI:

  1. Insert the CWSI CD into your CD-ROM drive.

  2. In the Windows NT Program Manager window, select File>Run.

  3. Enter the following path name in the Run dialog box (using the appropriate letter for your CD-ROM drive):

    cdrom_drive:\cwsi\setup.exe

You are asked to close all open applications.

  4. Click Cancel to quit the installer program if you need to close applications, or click Next to continue. A dialog box appears, asking you which components you wish to install.

  5. Select VlanDirector, TrafficDirector, or both, and click Next to continue.

If you specified VlanDirector in the last step, the installer program now copies the VlanDirector files from the CD to your system. This can take several minutes.

TrafficDirector is installed next if you requested it. The Choose Destination Location dialog box appears, with a default destination (c:\TrafficDirector) already entered.

  6. Keep the default destination for TrafficDirector, or enter the directory in which you want to install it. A Browse button is provided for selecting the directory.

  7. After choosing the destination directory, click Next.

  8. Now you are asked to enter your TrafficDirector serial number, password, and expiration date, which are included in the CWSI package. These items are required for installation.

The installer program copies the TrafficDirector files from the CD to your system. This can take several minutes.

**before**When the TrafficDirector installation is finished, you are asked if you want to restart your system now or do it later. Additional Documentation

Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more up to date than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service. The CD-ROM package is available as a single package or as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco documentation on the World Wide Web at http://www.cisco.com, http://www-china.cisco.com, or http://www-europe.cisco.com.
