You specified a VLAN name that was too long.

An entire VLAN name, including all its folders and separator characters, cannot exceed 32 characters.

The following is a valid VLAN name:

.:Finance:SanFrancisco

Shorten the name.

This message is provided for verification only.

You dragged a port that is already in the selected VLAN into a VLAN Topology, Device, or Ports window.

You dragged an object (most likely a port) from CiscoView running on a device that is not included in the current known network or configuration.

Make sure that the device from which you drag an object is included in the current known network or configuration.

You dragged a port from a device that VlanDirector does not support.

Select a port from a supported device.

Abandon the attempt to rename the VLAN.

You clicked Replace when nothing containing the find string was selected. You cannot replace a string except in one selected name that contains the Find string.

You tried to display a Switch Detail or Trunk Detail report without having any devices selected. The report you tried to display requires that you have one or more devices selected so that it can determine which devices to provide information about.

Select the devices you want this report to display information about, or choose a different kind of report that does not require any devices to be selected.

Error: Failed to open community file X. Community strings not changed.

When you use the File>Open Network option to display a known network, you can provide the name of a file of SNMP community strings required for the devices in that network.

You supplied the name of a file that cannot be found.

Do one of the following:

Correct the file name, create the file, or make the file available.

Click OK to open the network without changing community strings.

Click Cancel to cancel the operation.

VlanDirector was unable to access a file it needs.

You tried to replace the name of a VLAN or folder in the Names window using the Find/Replace function.

The replacement name you chose includes a colon (:), which is a path separator character, implying that the renamed object should be placed in a folder. This operation works only if all the specified folders already exist.

For example, if you attempt to replace the name vlan0004 with the name Marketing:ferndock (indicating the VLAN named ferndock in the Marketing folder), the folder Marketing should already exist in the root folder for the operation to be successful. If the folder Marketing does not already exist, this error message is displayed.

Do one of the following:

Create the folder that you specified when attempting to replace the name.

Enter the correct replacement name, and reattempt to replace the name.

Error: Device is an unsupported type.

You selected a device in a VlanDirector view. Although VlanDirector discovered and CDP supported this device, it is not a device type that VlanDirector fully supports and, therefore, you cannot display a VlanDirector report about it.

Deselect the device or ignore the message.

Error: Could not allocate VLAN indices for Ethernet and FDDI VLANs.

You have already created 1000 VLANs. VlanDirector does not support more than 1000 VLANs

Remove one or more of the existing VLANs.

You are attempting to bridge to a VLAN that has already been bridged to.

You are bridging an Ethernet to an FDDI VLAN. The FDDI VLAN may interconnect to a Catalyst 1200. If so, the SAID of the FDDI VLAN must be identical to the VLAN Index of the Ethernet VLAN.

Make the VLAN Index of the Ethernet VLAN identical to the SAID number of the target FDDI VLAN.

You have changed some operating properties but did not enter Options>Save Program Properties to save the changes for future sessions.

If you wish to have the changes take effect the next time you launch VlanDirector, in the Names window, select Option>Save Program Properties.

You are attempting to move all of the ports on Device X that are in VLAN Y to VLAN Z.

You attempted to delete a port from a VLAN. The port is disabled, and therefore not in any VLAN.

You are attempting to remove a link from Device X which will disconnect it (and VLAN Y) from the rest of the network.

Click Cancel if you do not want to disconnect the device.

You have already launched CiscoView and you are attempting to relaunch CiscoView. Your attempt to relaunch CiscoView will not work until the previous attempt has been completed.
