Displaying Reports

Displaying Reports

Depending on the display and output options you define when generating reports, you can display the results on your screen, e-mail a text file, or import the data into a spreadsheet or other application (CSV and TSV formats only).

Running Reports from the Command Line

Ready-to-run report files are reports that you have generated and saved using Trend Reporter. You can display these files at any time by using the nsreport command at the Windows command prompt.

To run an *.rr file from the command line, take the following steps:

Step 1 Open an MS-DOS window and enter the following command:

Step 2 Enter the following command to display the report file:

Displaying ASCII Reports

You may or may not be able to immediately display ASCII format reports when you generate them. You need to save the file first, then use the following procedure to view them in DOS.

To display Windows ASCII Reports, take the following steps:

Step 1 Enter the following command at a DOS prompt to change to the Reports directory:

Step 2 Enter the following command:

The report contents are displayed in the DOS window (Figure 43-1).

Zooming In on History Reports

You can zoom in to take a closer look at a specific interval of a history report, or view a section of data samples at a lower display resolution. Use the mouse to select a start time and end time for the zoom. Note that when you zoom in on a history report, the zoom view always defaults to the minimum polling frequency (MPF) for the report display resolution. If you are logging at 15-minute intervals and generate a history report at a 2-hour resolution and zoom in on it, the resulting zoom is displayed at a 15-minute display resolution.

To zoom in on a section of a history graph, take the following steps:

Step 1 Position the mouse over the point on the history graph where you want the zoom to begin (Figure 43-2) and click once.

Step 2 Position the mouse over a second point on the history graph where you want the zoom to end and click once.

The Launch Application Window opens.

Step 3 Select Segment History (Zoom) from the Application heading.

Step 4 Click Launch.

A new Segment History (Zoom) report (Figure 43-3) opens.

Changing Graphical Report Display Properties

Trend Reporter lets you change the display properties of any graphical report. These displays give you an at-a-glance overview of your network.

From the Properties menu, you can choose to display selected network data as a 2-D bar graph (Figure 43-4), a 3-D bar graph, or a 3-D pie chart. You can also transpose or invert the displays.

Changing to Horizontal Bar Format

You can view a bar graph or horizontal (or inverted) bar format. This inverts the axes of the two bar graph displays (2-D and 3-D). Depending on the data you are displaying, you can choose to switch the x and y axes as a matter of viewing preference. Inverting the graph may provide a clearer picture of the data and devices you are monitoring.

To change the report display to horizontal bar format, take the following steps:

Step 1 Select Properties.

Step 2 Click Invert.

The graph or graphs displayed in the report are inverted to horizontal bar format (Figure 43-5).

Manipulating 3-D Graphical Reports

You can manipulate the elevation, depth, and angle of most three-dimensional report graphics to increase or decrease the 3-D effect of the graph. To manipulate the displayed 3-D graph, take the following steps:

Step 1 Move the cursor over the 3-D graph you want to manipulate.

Step 2 Do one of the following:

Step 3 Do the following:
