Configuring Remote Agents

Configuring Remote Agents

The problem with reconfiguring agents is that agents may be physically located all over the world. The TrafficDirector Remote Login application lets you reach those agents through the network, from your local network management console, regardless of where they are located.

When a SwitchProbe is first installed, the agent automatically starts running with no further action. However, you may want to initalize certain parameters or perform software upgrades later on. You can do this directly from your TrafficDirector console by using the Remote Login utility.

Remote Login is a configuration console that lets you enable and configure options to customize how a probe monitors and gathers data. Remote Logging uses the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) protocol running over UDP/IP to connect to the probe.

Caution The Remote Login application works only with SwitchProbes.

Using Remote Login

The Remote Login application makes it easy to change and update to agents on your network from your main network management console. Use Remote Login whenever you want to do the following:

When you log in to an agent from TrafficDirector, a menu is displayed in the Remote Login console window. To perform any of the listed tasks, enter the corresponding menu number at the prompt and press Enter. Follow the subsequent directions displayed in the console window. For more information about agent configuration tasks, see the SwitchProbe User Guide.
