Monitoring the Status of Your ATM Network

This chapter provides an overview of how AtmDirector monitors the status of your ATM network.

Monitoring ATM Devices and Links--Overview

AtmDirector monitors devices at defined intervals and indicates their status on the topology map by changing the color of the device icon. Table 6-1 lists and describes the colors used to indicate the status of devices.


Table  6-1: Colors for Device Status
Color Description
Red The device is not responding to a poll and is down or unreachable.
Green The device is responding to a poll and is up.
Blue The device is set to unmanaged. To manage or unmanage a device, select the device, click the right mouse button to display a popup menu, and select Manage or Unmanage. Optionally, you can select Map>Object>Manage/Unmanage.

Monitoring ATM-VLANs and LANE Components

ATM-VLAN and LANE component status information is available in AtmDirector from the topology view and from its menus. The following types of status information are provided:

Monitoring PNNI Nodes and Links

The PNNI topology map allows you to monitor the status and nodes and links in a PNNI domain or peer group. The operational status of nodes and links is polled and shown with color coding on the topology map. See "Displaying the PNNI Topology" in Chapter 5, "Generating the PNNI Topology Map."
