The AtmDirector network management software is an application in the CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks (CWSI) suite of network management applications. CWSI applications enable you to configure, monitor, and manage a switched internetwork. CWSI includes the following applications:
The AtmDirector application, which manages Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks, is described here. For information about getting started with CWSI and the other CWSI applications refer to the following:
The AtmDirector software includes the following features:
An ATM fabric is a group of interconnected switches. A fabric comprises all the ATM switches that can be discovered via the Interim Local Management Interface (ILMI) Neighbor discovery mechanism, starting at the seed address. A fabric also contains the ATM end hosts connected to these switches.
ATM-VLANs are an implementation of virtual LANs (VLANs) for ATM networks. An ATM-VLAN uses LAN emulation (LANE) to enable existing applications to access an ATM network as if it were operating over a traditional LAN, such as Ethernet or token ring. An ATM fabric can contain multiple ATM-VLANs. For a further understanding of ATM-VLANS, refer to Chapter 4, "Generating the ATM-VLAN Topology Map."
PNNI stands for Private Network-Node Interface, sometimes called Private Network-Network Interface. PNNI is a dynamic source routing protocol for ATM internetworks that provides routing between ATM switches and groups of switches. Cisco's implementation of PNNI routing on the LightStream 1010 switch is based on the ATM Forum PNNI 1.0 specification. For a further understanding of PNNI, refer to Chapter 5, "Generating the PNNI Topology Map."
To launch the AtmDirector application, follow these steps:
Step 1 Start CWSI.
The CWSI Topology window opens.
Step 2 Select Tools>AtmDirector or double-click on the ATM cloud icon in the toolbar.
The AtmDirector main window opens (Figure 1-1).

To quit the AtmDirector application, follow these steps:
Step 1 Select File>Exit from the AtmDirector main window.
Step 2 At the confirmation prompt, click OK.
