Working with LANE Components

Working with LANE Components

This chapter describes how to use AtmDirector to access detailed information about the client, LE server, broadcast server, and configuration server components in an ATM-VLAN.

Viewing Client Summary Information

The Client Summary window provides summary information for any of the active clients in the ATM-VLAN. The client summary includes the addresses used by the client to establish virtual connections and can be useful in troubleshooting connections.

To display summary information for a client, follow these steps:

Step 1 From the AtmDirector main window, double-click on the name of an ATM-VLAN to display the ATM-VLAN topology.

Step 2 Select a client from the ATM-VLAN topology map.

Step 3 Select ATM-VLAN>Client Summary or right-click on a client component and select Summary from the popup menu.

The Client Summary window opens (Figure 8-1). The information in this window is described in Table 8-1.

Figure 8-1: Client Summary Window

Step 4 Click OK when you have read the client summary.

Client Summary Field Descriptions
Field Description
ATM-VLAN Name Administrative name assigned to this ATM-VLAN.
Fabric Name Name of the fabric to which this ATM-VLAN belongs.
Host Name Name assigned to the device running this client.
Client ID ID assigned to this client by the LE server.
Version Software version this client is running.
Uptime Time when this client became activated.
Proxy Indicates whether this device also represents other devices behind it.
Primary ATM Address Address used by the client to establish control connections.
Secondary ATM Addresses Other addresses in addition to the primary ATM address used by the client for data direct connections.
MAC Address MAC address of the device running this client.
Operational Status Up or Down.

Viewing LE Server/Broadcast Server Summary Information

The LE Server and Broadcast Server Summary window provides summary and status information for an LE server or broadcast server.

To view summary information for an LE server or broadcast server, follow these steps:

Step 1 From the AtmDirector main window, double-click on the name of an ATM-VLAN to display the ATM-VLAN topology.

Step 2 Select an LE server or broadcast server from the ATM-VLAN topology map.

Step 3 Select ATM-VLAN>Server Summary, or right-click on a server component and select Summary from the popup menu.

The LE Server and Broadcast Server Summary window opens for the selected server or broadcast server (Figure 8-2). The information in this window is described in Table 8-2.

Figure 8-2: LE Server and Broadcast Server Summary Window

Step 4 Click OK when you have read the server summary.

Table  8-2:
LE Server and Broadcast Server Summary Field Descriptions
Field Description
ATM-VLAN Name Administrative name for the ATM-VLAN served by this LE server or broadcast server
Fabric Name Name of the fabric to which this ATM-VLAN belongs
Host Name Name of the device running the LE server or broadcast server
ATM Address Address of the LE server or broadcast server
Interface String identifying the main and sub interfaces on which the server receives control connections
Uptime Time when this server became activated
Mode Master or backup server for the ATM-VLAN
Operational Status Up or down

Configuration Server Component Information--Overview

From the ATM-VLAN topology map window you can access the following information for any configuration server:

Viewing Configuration Server Summary Information

The Configuration Server Summary window provides identifying and summary status information for the selected configuration server, master or backup.

To view configuration server summary information, follow these steps:

Step 1 From the AtmDirector main window, double-click on the name of an ATM-VLAN to display the ATM-VLAN topology.

Step 2 Select a configuration server from the ATM-VLAN topology map.

Step 3 Select ATM-VLAN>Config Server Summary or right-click on a configuration server component and select Summary from the popup menu.

The Configuration Server Summary window opens (Figure 8-3). The information in this window is described in Table 8-3.

Step 4 Click OK when you have read the configuration server summary.

Table  8-3:
Configuration Server Summary Field Descriptions
Field Description
Fabric Name Name of the fabric to which this ATM-VLAN belongs
Host Name Device that is running this configuration server
ATM Address Address on which this configuration server listens for incoming connections
Interface Interface on which the configuration server receives configure requests
Status
Uptime Time when this configuration server became activated
Mode Master or backup configuration server
Operational Status Up or down

Viewing the Configuration Server Database

The Config Server Database window provides identifying information about the selected configuration server and shows its ATM-VLAN-to-server database mappings. These mappings contain the name of each ATM-VLAN known to the configuration server and the ATM address of its corresponding LE server.

To view the configuration server database, follow these steps:

Step 1 From the AtmDirector main window, double-click on the name of an ATM-VLAN to display the ATM-VLAN topology.

Step 2 Select a configuration server from the ATM-VLAN topology map.

Step 3 Select ATM-VLAN>Config Server Database or right-click on a configuration server component and select Configuration Database from the popup menu.

The Config Server Database window opens (Figure 8-4). The information shown in this window is described in Table 8-4.

Figure 8-4: Config Server Database Window

Step 4 Click OK when you have read the configuration server database.

Table  8-4:
Config Server Database Field Descriptions
Field Description
Host Name Administrative name of the device running the configuration server
Mode Master or backup configuration server for the fabric
Default ATM-VLAN ATM-VLAN name assigned to clients who do not specify what ATM-VLAN to join when issuing a configuration request.
ATM-VLAN Configuration
ATM-VLAN Name ATM-VLANs known to this configuration server
Master LE Server ATM Address Address of the Master LE server for the ATM-VLAN in this row
ATM-VLAN Access Access of the ATM-VLAN in this row to configure requests: open or closed

Viewing the Configuration Server ATM-VLAN Configuration Table

The Config Server - ATM-VLAN Configuration window shows the configuration table for an ATM-VLAN maintained by the configuration server. This table consists of a list of master LE servers that serve the ATM-VLANs known to this configuration server, along with ATM and MAC addresses of hosts that are allowed to join. This list of addresses is used to decide which clients can access the ATM-VLAN when the ATM-VLAN access is closed.

To view the configuration server ATM-VLAN configuration table, follow these steps:

Step 1 From the AtmDirector main window, double-click on the name of an ATM-VLAN to display the ATM-VLAN topology.

Step 2 Select a configuration server from the ATM-VLAN topology map.

Step 3 Select ATM-VLAN>Config Server Database or right-click on a configuration server component and select Configuration Database from the popup menu.

The Config Server database window opens (Figure 8-4).

Step 4 Select an ATM-VLAN from the ATM-VLAN Configuration list.

Step 5 Click Show Detail.

The configuration table entry for the selected ATM-VLAN is shown in the Config Server - ATM-VLAN Configuration window (Figure 8-5). The information in this window is described in Table 8-5.
