This chapter discusses the objectives, intended audience, and organization of the CiscoView User Guide for Catalyst and LightStream Switches.
In this guide, you will learn how to use CiscoView tools to utilize the following Catalyst 3000 series and Catalyst 5000 series switches features:
- LANE Manager
- MAC Address Filter
- EtherChannel
- VLAN & Bridge
- Neighbor View
- Trap Receiver Table
- ATM Accounting
- ATM RMON
- VC Configuration
In this guide, you will also learn how to use CiscoView ATM feature tools to perform the following LightStream 1010 tasks:
- Manage ATM Device Features
- Manage ATM Port Features
If you need additional information on CiscoView (such as how to manage and set device thresholds or how to troubleshoot minor tasks), refer to the CiscoView Getting Started Guide.
Note The LANE Manager feature allows you to view and configure LANE information on the Catalyst 5000 series switches. On the Catalyst 3000 series switches, you can only view LANE information with LANE Manager; configuration tools are not available. For this reason, where figures show
Create,
Configure,
Modify, and/or
Delete buttons, these buttons may not appear on Catalyst 3000 series switch LANE Manager screens.
Note The MAC Address Filtering application for the Catalyst 3000 series switches enables a user to restrict specified nodes from communicating with other nodes. MAC Address filtering is not a feature supported by the Catalyst 5000 series switches.
Note The Catalyst 5000 series switches include the Catalyst 5000, the Catalyst 5002, and the Catalyst 5500. Throughout this guide and all Catalyst 5000 series documents, "Catalyst 5000 series switches" refers to all of the Catalyst 5000 switches unless otherwise noted.
Note The Catalyst 3000 series switches include the Catalyst 3000, the Catalyst 3100, and the Catalyst 3200. Throughout this guide and all Catalyst 3000 series documents, "Catalyst 3000 series switches" refers to all of the Catalyst 3000 switches unless otherwise noted.
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with your product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more up to date than printed documentation. To order additional copies of the documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call customer service. The CD-ROM package is available as a single package or as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco documentation on the World Wide Web URL http://www.cisco.com, http://www-china.cisco.com, or http://www-europe.cisco.com.
This guide describes CiscoView configuration tools and procedures, and explains how to use these tools to perform a variety of functions.
For detailed installation procedures and configuration descriptions for the Catalyst switches, refer to the appropriate publication from the following list:
- Catalyst 3000 Installation and Configuration Guide
- Catalyst 3200 Installation and Configuration Guide
- Catalyst Matrix and Expansion Module Installation and Configuration Guide
- Catalyst 5000 Installation Guide
- LightStream 1010 Installation Guide
This guide is intended for intermediate to experienced network administrators who are already familiar with using CiscoView on Catalyst switches.
This guide contains the following information:
- Chapter 1, "ATM LANE and the Catalyst 5000 Series and Catalyst 3000 Series Switches," provides an overview of how ATM LANE is used with the Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 2, "LANE Manager for Catalyst Switches," describes the LANE configuration tools for Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 3, "ATM LANE Configuration for Catalyst Switches," provides LANE configuration procedures for Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 4, "ATM Features for the LightStream 1010 Switch," describes the ATM device and port feature tools for LightStream 1010 switches.
- Chapter 5, "ATM Feature Configuration for LightStream 1010 Switches," provides ATM device and port feature configuration proceduress for LightStream 1010 switches.
- Chapter 6, "MAC Address Filter," contains the descriptions and configuration procedures for the MAC Address Filtering application for Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 7, "VLAN & Bridge," contains the descriptions and configuration procedures for the VLAN & Bridge application for Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 8, "EtherChannel, Neighbor View, and Trap Receiver Table," contains the descriptions and configuration procedures for the EtherChannel, Neighbor View, and Trap Receiver Table applications for Catalyst switches.
- Chapter 9, "VMPS Client and VTP Pruning," contains the descriptions and configuration procedures for the VMPS Client application for the Catalyst 5000 series switch Route Switch Module (RSM).
This guide uses the following conventions:
- If the number of items within a list or field exceeds the allotted space, ellipses (. . .) at the list/field end signify that additional items are attached. For example, if the list of applied ports exceeds the space in the MAC Filter Manager, ellipses appear at the end of the list.
- If ellipses (. . .) appear at the end of a menu selection or action button, this signifies that additional items or submenus are available. For example, when you click Create VLAN... on the VLAN & Bridge Table, the Create VLAN screen is displayed.
Note Means
reader take note. Notes contain helpful suggestions or references to materials not contained in this guide.
This section explains how to use drag and drop to add or delete ports to/from a list (for example, VLAN or EtherChannel). This feature can be used with for Catalyst 3000 series and Catalyst 5000 series switches
To add a port to a list, select the port from the list and drag the port (holding down the middle mouse button for UNIX systems or holding the left mouse button for PC systems) onto the list.
To remove a port from a list, select the port from the list and drag the port (holding down the middle mouse button for UNIX systems or holding the left mouse button for PC systems) into the default line (for example, VLAN 1).
To set up a port, select the port from the list, select the ports from the CiscoView window, and drag them (holding down the middle mouse button for UNIX systems or holding the left mouse button for PC systems) onto the list.
