Device Configuration Reference

These topics describe the fields on the pages used in the Device Configuration application:

Device List

This page appears when you do one of the following:

Description

The Device List page displays the devices configured in QPM-COPS, and their configuration status. You can filter devices, and specify the number of devices displayed per page.

Field Description Notes

Device List

The device list displays the following details for each device:

  • IP---IP address of device. If you added the device using its DNS name, the system resolves it to the IP address.

  • DNS Name---The DNS name of the device. The DNS name is displayed if you specify it when adding the device.

  • Model---The name of the device model.

  • OS Version---The software version on the device.

  • PR Servers---The assigned provisioning PDPs.

  • RSVP Servers---The assigned RSVP PDPs.

  • PR---Specifies whether the device is COPS-PR enabled.

  • RS---Specifies whether the device is COPS-RSVP enabled.

  • S---Denotes the status of the device as shown in the status legend below the list of devices.

The following icons are displayed next to each device name:


Click this icon to display the device's interfaces.


Click this icon to validate policies on the device.

Status Legend

Describes the statuses of devices.

Select

Multiple device selection options:

  • Checked Items---Indicates devices have been selected.

  • All---All devices are automatically selected.

  • None---No devices are selected. Any selected devices are automatically deselected.

  • Invert---The device selection is automatically inverted.

View by

Filters display according to specified filter type and criteria:

  • All---Displays all devices.

  • Query---Displays devices matching query criteria defined in the Device Query page.

  • By DNS---Displays devices matching specified DNS criteria.

  • By PDP---Displays devices matching specified PDP criteria.

  • By State---Displays devices matching specified state.

  • By OS---Displays devices matching specified OS criteria.

  • RSVP Clients---Displays devices that are capable of functioning as RSVP clients.

  • By IP---Displays devices matching specified IP address criteria.

  • PR Clients---Displays devices that are capable of functioning as COPS-PR clients.

  • By Model---Displays devices matching specified device model criteria.

Choose a filter type, enter the criteria, then click Go.

The Device Configuration displays devices for which the filter criteria match fully or partially. For example, if you choose the filter type IP and enter 123 as the matching criteria, all devices containing 123 within their IP address will be displayed.

Show

Specifies the number of devices displayed per page.

Page

Specifies the page number currently displayed, and the total number of pages.

Show Interfaces

Click to display interfaces for all selected devices.

Assign Primary PDP

Click to assign a primary PDP to all selected devices.

Delete

Click to delete all selected devices.

Commit

Click to commit all changes on selected devices.

Commit All

Click to commit all changes on all devices.

Rediscover

Click to update device information for selected devices.

Device Interfaces

This page appears when you do one of the following:

Description

The Device Interfaces page displays the interfaces for a selected device.You can filter interfaces, and specify the number of interfaces displayed per page.

Field Description Notes

Interface List

The interface list displays the following details for each interface:

  • ifIndex---The index number of the interface.

  • ifName---The interface's name.

  • IP---The IP address of the interface.

  • ifType---The type of interface.

  • Max rate---The maximum rate of traffic on the interface in Kbit/sec.

  • Role Combination---The roles defined for the interface. The roles are displayed in lexicographic order, not in order of priority.

  • P---Indicates whether there is a change pending in the interface status.

A selection check box is displayed next to each interface name.

Select

Multiple interface selection options:

  • Checked Items---Indicates that interfaces have been selected.

  • All---All interfaces are automatically selected.

  • None---No interfaces are selected. Any selected interfaces are automatically deselected.

  • Invert---The interface selection is automatically inverted.

View by

Filters display according to specified filter type and criteria:

  • All---Displays all interfaces.

  • Query---Displays interfaces matching query criteria defined in the Interface Query page.

  • By Type---Displays interfaces matching specified interface type criteria.

  • By Name---Displays interfaces matching specified interface name criteria.

  • By Speed---Displays interfaces matching specified interface speed criteria.

  • By Role---Displays interfaces matching specified role criteria.

  • RSVP Enabled---Displays interfaces for which RSVP has been enabled. You need to use CLI to enable / disable RSVP. See "Device Configuration via Telnet."

Choose a filter type, enter the criteria, then click Go.

Device Configuration displays interfaces for which the filter criteria match fully or partially. For example, if you choose the filter type Name and enter 123 as the matching criteria, all interfaces containing 123 within their name will be displayed.

Show

Specifies the number of interfaces displayed per page.

Page

Specifies the page number currently displayed, and the total number of pages.

Add/Remove Role

Click to add or remove a role to the selected interfaces.

Rediscover

Click to update interface information from the device for the selected interfaces.

Commit

Click to commit all changes to the corresponding devices.

Add/Import Devices

The Add/Import Devices page opens when you click Add Devices in the Device Configuration option bar.

Definition

Use the Add/Import Devices page to add a single device or a list of devices to the Device Configuration database.

Field Description Notes

Device Name or IP

The name or IP address of the device you are adding.

SNMP Settings

Link to the SNMP page in CiscoWorks2000, where you can view and edit community strings.

OK button

Click to add the device to the database.

The device is added to the database and assigned Waiting for confirmation status until you confirm the new device.

Cancel button

Click this button to discard unsaved changes.

Import File

Enter the name of the file containing details of devices you want to add. You can also click the Browse button and choose the file.

The import file can be exported from Resource Manager Essentials (RME) as a .csv file, or it can be any text file, which lists each device address followed by a comma, on a separate line.

OK button

Click to import the file.

The devices are added to the database and assigned Waiting for confirmation status until you confirm their addition.

Device Details

This page appears when you click the IP address of a device in the Device List page or Device Query Results page.

Description

The Device Details/Edit page displays the details for the selected device. In this page you can:

Device Details

The Device Details field displays the following details for the device:

  • Device Status---The status of device configuration changes. The status can be one of the following:

    • Unverified---Device unverified.

    • Waiting Confirmation---New device waiting to be confirmed.

    • Active---Changes committed and confirmed.

    • Change Pending---Changes saved but not committed.

    • Commit failed---Commit action failed.

    • Unreachable---Device could not be accessed.

  • Device System Information---The following details are displayed:

    • sysName---The device's system name, if it exists.

    • IP---The device's IP address.

    • DNS Name---The device's DNS name, if it exists.

    • Model---The name and version of the device model.

    • OS---The software version on the device.

  • Device Properties---The following information is displayed:

    • Server max---The maximum number of provisioning PDPs or RSVP PDPs that can be assigned to the device.

    • MIBs---The MIBs that are supported on the device.

    • Read Community---The Read Community string for the device.

    • Write Community---The Write Community string for the device.

    • Provisioning PDPs---The IP addresses of provisioning PDPs assigned to the device.

    • RSVP PDPs---The IP addresses of RSVP PDPs assigned to the device.

Provisioning PDPs

The dropdown list displays PDPs that can be assigned to the device.

The list box displays PDPs that are currently assigned to the device.

To assign a provisioning PDP to the device, select the PDP in the dropdown list and click >>. The PDP name appears in the list box.

To change the priority of a PDP, from primary to secondary or vice versa, select the assigned PDP and click the appropriate arrow.

To delete a PDP assignment, select the PDP and click the garbage can icon.

This field only appears for switches. For routers, assign PDPs using Telnet.

To save changes, click the Save link at the top of the page.

To commit all changes to the device, click the Commit link at the top of the page.

RSVP PDPs

The dropdown list displays PDPs that can be assigned to the device.

The list box displays PDPs that are currently assigned to the device.

To assign an RSVP PDP to the device, select the PDP in the dropdown list and click >>. The PDP name appears in the list box.

To change the priority of a PDP, from primary to secondary or vice versa, select the assigned PDP and click the appropriate arrow.

To delete a PDP assignment, select the PDP and click the garbage can icon.

This field only appears for devices that support COPS-PR. For other devices, assign PDPs using Telnet.

To save changes, click the Save link at the top of the page.

To commit all changes to the device, click the Commit link at the top of the page.

Telnet Device

This link launches your default Telnet application. Use to enable and disable COPS, and to assign PDPs to routers.

This link will work when you have correctly configured a default Telnet application on your browser.

View Interfaces

Displays the Interfaces page with details of device interfaces.

Save

Click to save changes to the device.

Commit

Click to commit all changes to the device.

Interface Details

This page appears when you click the interface index number in the Interfaces page or Interface Query Results page.

Description

The Interface Details page displays the details for the selected interface. In this page you can also assign roles to the interface.

Interface Details

The Interface Details field displays the following details for the interface:

  • Device Name---The device name, to which the interface belongs.

  • Device IP---The device's IP address.

  • Device Model---The name and version of the device model.

  • Device OS---The software version on the device.

  • ifName---Name of the interface.

  • ifIndex---Interface number.

  • ifType---Type of interface.

  • ifIP---IP address of the interface.

  • ifSubNetMask---Subnet mask of the interface.

  • ifOperStatus---Hardware status of interface.

  • ifAdminStatus---Interface status.

  • Max rate (kbit/sec)---Maximum rate of interface in Kbit/sec.

  • Role Combination---The role combination on the interface.

Interface Roles

The list box on the left displays roles that can be assigned to the interface.

The list box on the right displays the roles that are currently defined on the interface.

To assign roles to the interface:

    1. Choose one or more roles in the left list box.

    2. Click the Add button. The roles appear in the right list box.

    3. Click Save to save the assignment.

    4. Click Commit to commit all changes to the device.

Notes on role assignments for the selected interface.

Device Query

This page appears when you do one of the following:

Description

The Device Query page lets you create a query to search for a specific set of devices. The Device Configuration displays devices for which the query criteria match fully or partially. For example, if you enter 123 as the matching criteria for the IP, devices containing 123 within their IP address will be found.

Devices matching all specified criteria will be found.

Field Description Notes

IP contains

Enter matching criteria for the IP address.

DNS (host) name contains

Enter matching criteria for the host name.

Model contains

Enter matching criteria for the device model.

OS name contains

Enter matching criteria for the device software version.

A PDP contains

Enter matching criteria for the PDP name.

State

Choose one or more device states. Devices that match any selected state will be found.

Provisioning (PR) capable

Choose whether devices are provisioning capable.

Signaling (RSVP) capable

Choose whether devices are signaling capable.

Run Query

Click to run the query. Fields with no specified value will be ignored.

Interface Query

This page appears when you choose Query in the View by dropdown list in the Interfaces page.

Description

The Interface Query page lets you create a query to search for a specific set of interfaces.The Device Configuration displays interfaces for which the query criteria match fully or partially. For example, if you enter abc as the matching criteria for the interface role, interfaces containing abc within their defined role names will be found.

Interfaces matching all specified criteria will be found.

IfName contains

Enter matching criteria for the interface name.

ifSpeed contains

Enter matching criteria for the interface speed.

ifType contains

Enter matching criteria for the interface type.

Role contains

Enter matching criteria for the roles on the interface.

RSVP enabled

Choose whether the interface is RSVP enabled.

Role Change Pending

Choose whether the interface has pending roles.

Run Query

Click to run the query. Fields with no specified value will be ignored.

Confirm Added Devices

The confirm added devices page appears after you add a device or import a list of devices. It displays details of the devices after discovery. Discovered devices have status W (waiting for confirmation).

COPS-capable devices appear pre-selected.

To confirm devices, select them (if they are not pre-selected) and click Confirm.

See Device List for a description of the displayed device details.

Server Messages

This page appears when you click the Server Messages link in the Device Configuration pages.

Assign Primary PDP

This page appears when you choose the Assign Primary PDP link in the Device List page.

Description

The Assign Primary PDP page lets you assign a primary to multiple devices simultaneously.

Lists available provisioning PDPs.

RSVP

Lists available RSVP PDPs.

Enable Device Preview

Select to display a preview of the devices you select. This will be effective the next time you access the Assign Primary PDP page.

Save

Click to save the PDP assignments.

Add/Remove Roles

This page appears when you choose the Add/Remove Roles link in the Device Interfaces page.

Description

The Add/Remove Roles page lets you add and remove roles to multiple interfaces simultaneously. You can assign and remove roles on interfaces with different role combinations.

Select Roles to Add

Displays currently available roles to add to interfaces.

You can select multiple roles.

Select Roles to Remove

Displays all roles assigned to any of the selected interfaces.

You can select multiple roles.

Enable Interface Preview c

Select to display a preview of the interfaces you select. This will be effective the next time you access the Add/Remove Roles page.

Clear Selection

Clears any selection in both the Select Roles to Add list and the Select Roles to Remove list.

Save

Click to save the role assignment.
