This appendix describes the CTM error messages and recommends solutions.
This appendix contains the following sections:
Error messages are categorized by message type (CTM client installation and general client error messages) and are listed in ascending numeric order within each category.

EID-1: Physical memory on your machine is less than 128 MB, which is the minimum requirement for CTM client software.
Action Upgrade the system RAM to 128 MB or install the software on another computer.
EID-2: Failed to create configuration file.
Action Verify that there is enough disk space on the selected drive and reinstall.
EID-3: I/O exception while writing to ems-client.cfg.
Action Verify that there is enough disk space on the selected drive and reinstall.
EID-4: Failed to remove CTM server configuration file.
Action Verify that the CTM server has been stopped and reinstall.

EID-9: Enter a valid CTM host name. CTM host name must be domain name or IP address of the form 'ddd.ddd.ddd.ddd', where each 'ddd' represents a decimal octet expressed as an integer between 0 and 255. The first octet cannot be a zero.

Action Exit from the applications that are not in active use; then, log in again. Or, you may have to purchase additional user licenses.
EID-102: Fatal error: This service is currently disabled. If the problem persists, contact your service provider.
Action Retry later. If the problem persists, contact your service provider.
EID-103: Fatal error: Connection to the EMS server was lost. The application will be shut down.
Action Restart the application after verifying that the CTM server is operational and available from the client LAN.
EID-104: CTM internal error: Invalid help URL.
Action Contact your service provider or Cisco Customer Support.
EID-130: Cannot authenticate user. Try again.
Action Enter your username and password and retry.
EID-131: EMS server address and/or port are incorrectly configured.
Action Check your configuration in the file Install directory/config/ems-client.cfg and log in again.
EID-132: User disabled due to security violation. Contact administrator to enable user account.
Action Contact your system administrator to reenable the user account.
EID-133: Specify a username.
Action Enter the username.
EID-140: Select at least one network element.
Action Select at least one network element (NE).
EID-141: Specify alarm severity.
Action Select at least one alarm severity from the list provided.
EID-142: Specify export destination file.
Action Specify the export destination file.
EID-143: Cannot write to specified export file.
Action Verify that the user has the required permission in the directory where the export file is being created. Verify that there is enough disk space available; then, retry.
EID-144: Cannot create directory name. Keep a space after the string.
Action Verify that the user has the required permission in the directory where the export file is being created. Verify that there is enough disk space available; then, retry.
EID-145: Illegal record count. Enter a positive integer.
Action Enter a positive integer.
EID-146: Event Export Manager - Cannot create or append to filename. Check access rights and disk space.
Action Check access rights and disk space.
EID-147: Event Export Manager - Cannot write to filename. Check access rights and disk space.
Action Check access rights and disk space.
EID-150: Illegal threshold value. Enter a number between 0 and 100.
Action Enter a number between 0 and 100.
EID-151: Copying of CTC binary to CTM server failed. Ensure that ServerInstallDir/cms/ on server is not write protected.
Action Write-enable the location ServerInstallDir/cms/ and retry.
EID-159: Selected NEs for software download are of different model types.
Action Reselect the NEs. All NEs selected for software download must be the same model type.
EID-160: Year entered is before the current year. Enter a year greater than or equal to the current year.
Action Enter a year that is equal to or greater than the current year.
EID-161: Month entered is before the current month. Enter a month greater than or equal to the current month.
Action Enter a month that is equal to or greater than the current month.
EID-162: Date entered is before the current date. Enter a date greater than or equal to the current date.
Action Enter a day of the month that is equal to or greater than the current day of the month. The day should be a valid day for the month and year selected.
EID-163: Hour entered is before the current hour. Enter an hour greater than or equal to the current hour.
Action Enter an hour that is equal to or greater than the current hour.
EID-164: Minute entered is before the current minute. Enter a minute greater than or equal to the current minute.
Action Enter a minute that is equal to or greater than the current minute.
EID-165: Source filename is empty. Enter a valid filename.
Action Enter a source filename, which is required for the software download or memory restore operation.
EID-166: Source filename does not exist. Enter a valid filename.
Action The source filename specified for the software download or memory restore operation does not exist. Specify a valid source filename.
EID-167: Selected network element list is empty. Select network elements from Available NE list.
Action Select at least one NE for the memory backup or software download operation.

EID-168: An error occurred while scheduling the software download operation.
Action The software download operation could not be scheduled. Restart the CTM client and retry the software download operation.
EID-169: An error occurred while scheduling the memory restore operation.
Action The memory restore operation could not be scheduled. Restart the CTM client and retry the memory restore operation.
EID-170: An error occurred while scheduling the memory backup operation.
Action The memory backup operation could not be scheduled. Restart the CTM client and retry the memory backup operation.
EID-171: Enter message to be sent.
Action No message is specified. Enter the message you want to send.
EID-172: Message is too long. Only the first 512 bytes will be sent.
Action The maximum message size allowed is 512 bytes. If you entered more than 512 bytes, only the first 512 bytes will be sent.
EID-173: An error occurred while sending the message.
Action The message could not be delivered. Restart the CTM client, retype the message, and resend.
EID-174: Cannot retrieve the list of existing configuration files for the network element.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-175: Max number of Cisco ONS 15454 NEs should be less than or equal to 100.
Action Specify 100 or fewer Cisco ONS 15454 NEs.
EID-176 : An error occurred while reading the global CTM configuration.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-177 : An error occurred while modifying the global CTM configuration. Changes made may not take effect.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-178: An error occurred while modifying the global CTM configuration. Changes made may not be communicated to other CTM clients.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-180: An error occurred while starting this service. Verify that this service is installed on the CTM server and retry.
Action Verify that the service is installed and licensed by entering the following command:
ls /opt/CiscoTransportManagerServer/bin
EID-181: An internal state error has occurred. Do you wish to continue using a default standard configuration?
Action Click Yes or No; then, continue accordingly. Or, restart the Server Control Panel window.
EID-182: An internal state denied the request to read the configuration. Do you wish to continue using a default standard configuration?
Action Click Yes or No; then, continue accordingly. Or, restart the Server Control Panel window.
EID-183: An I/O error has occurred. Do you wish to continue using a default standard configuration?
Action Click Yes or No; then, continue accordingly. Or, restart the Server Control Panel window.
EID-184: An internal protocol error has occurred. Do you wish to continue using a default standard configuration?
Action Click Yes or No; then, continue accordingly. Or, restart the Server Control Panel window.
EID-185: An internal error would not allow the current configuration to be opened.
Action An incorrect server configuration appears on the Server Control Panel window. Restart it and verify that the server parameters are correct.
EID-186: The request to open the current configuration file was denied.
Action An incorrect server configuration appears on the Server Control Panel window. Restart it and verify that the server parameters are correct.
EID-187: There is a problem opening the current configuration file.
Action An incorrect server configuration appears on the Server Control Panel window. Restart it and verify that the server parameters are correct.
EID-188: There is an exception opening the current configuration file.
Action An incorrect server configuration appears on the Server Control Panel window. Restart it and verify that the server parameters are correct.
EID-189: There is an input character problem in the current configuration file.
Action An incorrect server configuration appears on the Server Control Panel window. Restart it and verify that the server parameters are correct.
EID-190: Error detected in Server Configuration file at line line number.
Action The server configuration file contains in invalid entry (or is missing a mandatory entry) at the line specified. If the line number specified is one more than the last line in the file, invalid data exists on the last line, or some mandatory field values are missing after the last line.
EID-191: Error in writing the changes to the Server Configuration file. The previous changes made to the server configuration have been lost.
Action Refresh the Server Control Panel window. Make the changes again and click Save.
EID-192: Server configuration has been modified by another user since it was last read. You must refresh this view before any changes can be made to this Server Configuration file.
Action To proceed with the save, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon, change the selected Server Control Panel property sheet, and click Save.
EID-193: This IP address was already added as an SNMP host.
Action Enter a different IP address.
EID-194: A maximum of n SNMP hosts can be configured. You must remove an existing host if you want to add another host.
Action Remove an existing SNMP host; then, add a new host.
EID-195: This is not a valid license key. Enter a license key. If this error persists, contact Cisco Systems to obtain valid license key.
Action Enter a valid license key.
EID-200: There is no data available for the requested day. Choose a different day from the graph window.
Action Choose a different day from the graph window.
EID-201: Select at least one parameter to plot.
Action Select at least one parameter to plot.
EID-300: Cannot open file filename. Privileges to write data are not available.
Action You have read access only; this operation requires read/write access. Log out and log in again with a username and password that has read/write access.
EID-301: Export data error: Table not instantiated.
Action You cannot export data before the table is fully open. Wait until the table opens fully; then, click the Export toolbar icon.
EID-302: Export data: Error occurred while opening file filename to export data.
Action The file could not be opened for writing the data. This could be due to insufficient permission in the selected directory. Choose a directory with write permission or change the permission to allow write in the selected directory.
EID-303: Data successfully exported to filename.
Action no action is required.
EID-304: Enter a filename for export.
Action Provide specific information.
EID-305: File filename already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?
Action The file that you have provided already exists. Make sure that you want to overwrite the file before clicking OK.
EID-306: Cannot write to filename. Check if you have sufficient disk space and permissions to write.
Action Change the permission on the specified file or choose a different filename. If there is insufficient disk space, delete some files to make space on the disk.
EID-307: Filename: Path does not exist or there is no permission to write. Check that the path to the file exists and you have sufficient permissions to write.
Action A directory that is part of the path that you specified to the file does not exist or has no permissions to read or write. Create the directory structure to store the file with read/write permissions; then, specify the path. Or, specify a valid path.
EID-308: Directory name is a directory. Enter a filename.
Action Enter a filename instead of a directory name.
EID-309: Enter a character for separating fields during export.
Action You selected the Other option button but did not specify a separation character. Specify the character that you want to use as the separation character.
EID-310: Graph is not available at this time.
Action The graph could not be started because the NE could not be contacted. Verify that the NE is available and retry.
EID-311: BER statistics are not available at this time.
Action The bit error rate (BER) window could not be opened because the NE could not be contacted. Verify that the NE is available and retry.
EID-312: The table will be sorted on the Time Stamp column to show new rows. Press OK to sort. You may cancel and sort the table on time stamp later to see the new rows.
Action If you click Cancel, the rows are not sorted in chronological order. If you click OK, the rows are sorted in chronological order and the latest rows appear on top.
EID-313: Cannot get system information from the NE. Check IP connectivity to the NE and restart the Shelf View.
Action The SNMP query for system contact and location is not reaching the NE. After IP connectivity to the NE is restored, reopen the Shelf View window. The correct system contact and location information appears.
EID-315: Error getting data from the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-316: Error while setting filter criteria in the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-317: Error while adding filter criteria in the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-318: Error while getting total number of rows from the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-319: Error while sorting data in the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-320: Error while read/write attempted to the database.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-321: Error while sending JMOCO request for alarm changed.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-322: Error while initializing table.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-400: This number is invalid. Enter a valid number to continue.
Action Enter a valid number.
EID-401: Error occurred while initializing resource bundles in the NE Explorer.
Action Close and reopen the NE Explorer. If this fails, restart the application and repeat the same steps. If this still fails, one or more of the application files are missing. Reinstall the application.
EID-402: System name for this network element is inconsistent.
Action No action is required.
EID-403: Error occurred while reading the STS-1 configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-404: Error occurred while reading the VT configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-405: Error occurred while reading the serial interface configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-406: Error occurred while reading the multilink configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-407: Error occurred while reading the Ethernet port configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-408: Error occurred while reading the DS-1 port configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-409: Error occurred while reading the OC-3 configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.

EID-410: Error occurred while reading the cross-connect configuration from the database. The data shown may be inconsistent with the network element's actual configuration.

EID-411: Error occurred while specifying filter parameters for DS-1 ports on the Cross-Connect Table.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-412: Error occurred while specifying filter parameters for Ethernet ports on the Cross-Connect Table.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-413: Changes to the configuration will not be reflected in the NE Explorer. Refresh the window to update the information.
Action Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-414: Error occurred while connecting to the remote console.
Action The NE is not available. Verify that the client can reach the NE and retry.
EID 415: No configuration data has been detected for this network element.
Action If the NE is available, wait a few minutes; then, reopen the NE Explorer window.
EID-450: Error occurred while initializing resource bundles in the Cross-Connect Map.
Action Close and reopen the Cross-Connect Map window. If this fails, restart the application and repeat the same steps. If this still fails, one or more application files are missing. Reinstall the application.
EID-451: Error occurred while reading active interface side for VTs. Information for active interfaces for VTs may be incorrect for one or more VTs.
Action The active interface side of one or more VTs is not being read correctly. Verify connectivity between the NE and the server.
EID-452: Active interface side for VTs is not available.
Action The active interface side of one or more VTs is not being read correctly. Verify connectivity between the NE and the server. Close and reopen the Cross-Connect Map window.
EID-453: Cross-Connect Map cannot receive any events. The data shown may be incorrect.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view. If this fails, verify that the CTM server and the CTM client are exchanging events properly.
EID-454: Error occurred while plotting historical graphs from the Cross-Connect Map.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view; then, retry.
EID-455: Error occurred while plotting real-time graphs from the Cross-Connect Map.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view. If this fails, verify that the NE for which real-time graphs are being generated is available.
EID-456: Error occurred while showing DS-1 Port BER from the Cross-Connect Map.
Action Verify that the NE for which the DS-1 Real-Time BER is requested is available.
EID-457: Error occurred while connecting to remote console from the Cross-Connect Map.
Action The NE is not available. Verify that the NE is available from the client and retry.
EID-458: Alarm counts are not available in the Cross-Connect Map. Information shown about facility/service alarms may be incorrect.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view. If this fails, check for data consistency in the database.
EID-459: Error occurred while tagging port in/out of maintenance in the Cross-Connect Map.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view. Retag the port by selecting or deselecting the Tag Under Maintenance right-click menu option.
EID-460: Error occurred while getting tagged port admin state in the Cross-Connect Map. Admin states shown may be incorrect for one or more ports.
Action Click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view. If this fails, check for data consistency in the database.
EID-461: Error occurred while reading cross-connect data. Configuration shown may be incorrect.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-462: Error occurred while reading cross-connect data. Configuration shown may be incorrect.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-463: Incorrect data received. The active interface used by one or more VTs may be shown incorrectly.
Action The active interface side of one or more VTs is not being read correctly. Verify connectivity between the NE and the server.
EID-464: No configuration data has been detected for this network element.
Action Wait for a few minutes; then, click the Refresh Data toolbar icon to refresh the view.
EID-500: Searched item not found.
Action No item in the Domain Explorer topology tree matches the search criteria you specified. Redefine the search criteria and run a new search.
EID-502: Group Name is a mandatory field. Enter a unique group name and retry.
Action Enter a unique name for the new group.
EID-503: A group with the same name already exists. Specify a unique group name and retry.
Action Enter a unique name for the new group.
EID-504: A group name cannot be the same as a domain name. A domain with the same name already exists. Specify a unique group name and retry.
Action Enter a unique name for the new group.
EID-505: Database Error: Error while adding new group to the database.
Action A database error occurred while adding the new group. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry adding a new group.
EID-506: Group name is too long. Restrict the name to 32 characters.
Action Enter a unique group name that is not longer than 32 characters.
EID-507: Group description is too long. Restrict the description to 256 characters.
Action Enter a group description that is not longer than 256 characters.
EID-508: You have used all the available network element licenses. To add more network elements, upgrade your product name license count.
Action Contact Cisco Customer Support to upgrade your license count.
EID-509: Cannot read the product name license information. Restart the product name server and client. If the problem persists, contact the product name customer service.
Action Restart the CTM server and client.
EID-511: NE ID is a mandatory field. Enter a unique NE ID and retry.
Action Enter a unique ID for the NE.
EID-512: An NE or GNE with the same ID already exists in the database. Enter a unique NE ID and retry.
Action Enter a unique ID for the NE.
EID-513: Error in NE ID field. Restrict the NE ID to 128 alphanumeric characters with no spaces.
Action Enter a unique ID for the NE that is not longer than 128 alphanumeric characters.
EID-514: IP Address is a mandatory field. Enter a unique IP address and retry.
Action Enter a unique IP address for the NE.
EID-515: An NE or GNE with the same IP address already exists. Enter a unique IP address and retry.
Action Enter a unique IP address and retry.
EID-516: Invalid IP address. Enter a valid IP address in four decimal bytes (for example, 196.100.200.300) and retry.
Action Enter a unique IP address by using the specified format.
EID-517: NSAP Address is a mandatory field. Enter a unique NSAP address and retry.
Action Enter a unique network service access point (NSAP) address for the NE.
EID-518: A network element with the same NSAP address already exists. Enter a unique NSAP address and retry.
Action Enter a unique NSAP address for the NE.
EID-519: Invalid NSAP address. Enter a valid NSAP address in 20 hexadecimal bytes (for example, 01:10AB:4F0D:0912:1FCD:003D:33FF:0310:DFC2:AAB8:01) and retry.
Action Enter a unique NSAP address by using the specified format.
EID-520: Database error: Error occurred while adding a new network element to the database.
Action A database error occurred while adding the new NE. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry adding a new NE.
EID-521: Network element description is too long. Restrict the description to 256 characters.
Action Enter a description that is not longer than 256 characters.
EID-523: Location Name is a mandatory field when adding a network element in a state other than Preprovisioned. Specify the location name and retry.
Action Enter the location name.
EID-524: Database error: Cannot set the In-Service time stamp in the database.
Action A database error occurred while storing the NE's in-service time stamp in the database. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-525: Database error: Cannot set the Config Mode in the database.
Action A database error occurred while setting the NE type in the database. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-526: Invalid tree node selected. You cannot perform this operation with the current selection. Select a group or domain node and retry.
Action Select a group or domain node and retry.
EID-527: Fatal error occurred while notifying the CTM server of this change. Restart the server and all the clients.
Action Restart the CTM server and all the clients. Contact Cisco Customer Support if the problem persists.
EID-529: An error occurred while writing data to the database.
Action Exit and restart the CTM client.
EID-530: An error occurred while reading data from the database.
Action Exit and restart the CTM client.
EID-531: A domain with the same name already exists. Specify a unique domain name and retry.
Action Specify a unique domain name.
EID-532: Database error: Cannot modify the domain description.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-533: Database error: Cannot modify the domain name.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-534: Domain Name is a mandatory field. Specify the domain name and retry.
Action Enter a name for the domain.
EID-535: Group Name is a mandatory field. Specify the group name and retry.
Action Enter a name for the group.
EID-536: Database error: Cannot modify the group name.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-537: Database error: Cannot modify the group description.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-538: Database error: Cannot modify the group location.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-539: Database error: Cannot modify the network element name.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-540: Database error: Cannot modify the network element IP address.
Action A database error occurred during this operation. Verify that the CTM database is up and running properly. Restart the CTM client and retry.
EID-541: Database error: Cannot modify the network element NSAP address.

Action The file traps.lst in the bin directory where the CTM server was installed is bad. Delete the file traps.lst and restart the application.
EID-605: Failed to recover alarm sequence #number to #number for NE name.
Action CTM was unable to recover all alarms from the NE. There may be events missing in the Event Log due to connectivity problems or mangled packets. However, the Alarm Browser will reflect the correct alarm information. In the Domain Explorer window, choose Fault > Alarm Browser to view the current alarms.
EID-706: SNMP trap received from unknown NE name.
Action SNMP traps are being received from an NE that is not configured on the CTM server. Check the configured IP addresses for all NEs by viewing the configuration files (startup-config). The IP addresses should match the IP address of the interface used in the "snmp-server trap-source IF" CLI in the NE configuration.

Audit Message AUD-103: CTM successfully contacted NE: name.

Action Check network connectivity. Log in to the CTM client with administrator privileges, open the Server Control Panel window, and choose Administration > Error Log. Use the error log to debug the problem. For more information, refer to "Troubleshooting."
Audit Message AUD-105: Job# job number succeeded for NE: NE name.
Audit Message AUD-106: Job# job number failed for NE: name with the error: error message.
Action The job can fail to start if the NE is unavailable or if the configured SNMP community string does not have write privileges. Verify that the NE is available and that the community string has write privileges.
