This chapter provides information about upgrading from previous releases of IPM to IPM Release 2.2. It includes the following sections:
When you upgrade your IPM servers and clients, follow these rules:
If you do not follow these rules when you upgrade, IPM cannot function properly. In most cases, the IPM client cannot even access the IPM server.
IPM Release 2.1 is upgraded automatically when you install IPM Release 2.2. The IPM database and seed files from IPM 2.1 and later are preserved. This data is backed up automatically as part of the installation process and then the data is converted to the format used by IPM 2.2.
To install IPM on a Solaris system, follow the installation instructions in the "Installing IPM on Solaris" chapter.
To install IPM on a Windows system, follow the installation instructions in the "Installing IPM on Windows" chapter.
If you are currently running IPM Release 2.0, you must take the following steps before you can install IPM Release 2.2:
Step 2 After you have upgraded to IPM Release 2.1, you can install IPM Release 2.2 on your system and your data will be converted to the format used by IPM Release 2.2.
If you are currently running IPM Release 1.0, you must take the following steps before you can install IPM Release 2.2:
Step 2 After you have upgraded to IPM Release 2.0, you must upgrade to IPM Release 2.1. Refer to the "Upgrading From IPM Software Release 2.0 or Later" chapter of the Internetwork Performance Monitor Installation Guide, Software Release 2.1 for detailed instructions on upgrading from IPM Release 2.0 to IPM Release 2.1.
Step 3 After you have upgraded to IPM Release 2.1, you can install IPM Release 2.2 on your system and your data will be converted to the format used by IPM Release 2.2.
