You can use the IPM web server to download and install the IPM client software. Using the web server allows you to perform remote installation of the client software without mounting the IPM CD-ROM.
This chapter provides information on the following topics:
The URL for the web server is provided in the output listing of the server installation program. To see a sample of this URL information in an output listing, look at the end of the installation example provided in the "Sample Installation Output for Sun Solaris" section in the "Sample Installation Output" appendix.
The URL specifies the server's host name and port number to access the web server. The following is an example of the URL format:
http://ipm_host_name:1744
Where:
ipm_host_name is the name of the IPM server system.
1744 is the port number of the web server on the IPM server (note that this value might vary on your server system).
To download the IPM client software using the web server complete the following steps:
Step 1 From your browser, go to the URL that was specified in the output listing of the IPM server installation. The Cisco Internetwork Performance Monitor (IPM) home page appears (Figure 7-1).
Step 2 From the IPM home page, click the operating system platform on which you want to install the IPM client software.

Step 3 From the system download and instruction page, click the instruction to download the software.
Step 4 When queried, specify the directory where you want the installation software files downloaded.
Step 5 Follow the instructions for installing the IPM client software on the platform that you selected.
More detailed instructions about installing the IPM client software are provided in the platform-specific chapters of this book. Basic instructions for installing the IPM client software are also provided on the web page.
For example, the "Installing the IPM Client on Sun Solaris Using the Web Server" section in the "Installing IPM on Solaris" chapter provides specific information for installing the IPM client software from the CD-ROM or using the web server on a Sun Solaris system.
