Upgrading From IPM Software Release 1.0

Upgrading From IPM Software Release 1.0

This chapter describes the tasks used to save your configuration information and IPM database from IPM software release 1.0 and upgrade them for use in IPM software release 2.0.

When you perform the upgrade all of your collector, source, target, and operation configurations are converted for use in IPM software release 2.0. Also, the performance information that is stored in the IPM database is converted so that your data is available in IPM software release 2.0.

When you upgrade from IPM software release 1.0, you must uninstall the IPM software before installing IPM software release 2.0. You do not have to unload and upgrade the IPM release 1.0 configuration information and data, but we recommend that you do. Once the IPM software is uninstalled you no longer are able to retrieve that information.

Note The upgrade process converts the hourly data only. Daily, weekly, and monthly data is automatically generated when you run IPM software release 2.0. When you run IPM software release 2.0, it might take up to 24 hours before you can see the derived data that has been converted from IPM software release 1.0.

Upgrading From a Sun Solaris Server

To upgrade from IPM software release 1.0 to IPM software release 2.0 on a Sun Solaris server complete the following tasks:

Unloading the IPM Software Release 1.0 Database

Before you begin unloading the IPM software release 1.0 data, you need to know the following information so that you can provide it when the unload program issues the request. The following items describe the default values when CiscoWorks is installed. If CiscoWorks is not installed, contact your Sybase system administrator for the following information:

To unload the IPM data from a Sun Solaris workstation running IPM software release 1.0, complete the following tasks:

Step 1 Log in as the root user and verify that IPM is not running.

Step 2 Insert the IPM software release 2.0 CD-ROM into the drive and mount the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 In the root directory of the CD-ROM image, run the following command to unload the IPM database:

    # ./unloadIPM10Data.sh

Step 4 Press Enter to accept the default path or type the location of the Sybase SQL server home directory for IPM software release 1.0, when the following message prompt appears:

Specify Sybase SQL Server Home directory for IPM 1.0: ? [/opt/CSCOsyb]

If CiscoWorks is installed, the Sybase home directory is /opt/CSCOsyb.

Step 5 Press Enter to accept the default SQL server name, or type the name of the SQL server when the following message prompt appears:

Sybase SQL Server Name: ? [CW_SYBASE]

Step 6 Type the SQL server SA password when the following message prompt appears:

Sybase SQL Server SA Password: ?

If CiscoWorks is installed, the Sybase password is sybasesa.

Step 7 Type the location where you want to temporarily save IPM software release 1.0 data, when the following message appears:

Specify the temporary directory for saving IPM 1.0 data: ?

Step 8 When the following message appears, press Enter to confirm that the information that you specified is acceptable:

    Are these settings correct? (y/n)? [ y ]

Step 9 The unload program begins to copy the database records. When the unload is complete, verify that you receive the following message that the data has been successfully unloaded to the directory that you specified:

IPM 1.0 data have been unloaded to directory '/tmp'.

Note If you receive error messages during the unload program, rerun the ./unloadIPM10Data.sh command and specify an alternate directory to store the IPM database.

Uninstalling IPM Software Release 1.0

Once you have successfully upgraded the data from IPM software release 1.0, you must uninstall the IPM software before installing IPM software release 2.0.

Note Before proceeding to uninstall IPM software release 1.0, be sure that you have backed up any private files that you might have saved in the /opt/CSCOipm directory. All files in /opt/CSCOipm are deleted when you install IPM software release 2.0.

Step 1 Log in as the root user.

Step 2 Change to the /install directory where IPM software release 1.0 is located using the cd command as shown in the following example:

    # cd /opt/CSCOipm/install

Where /opt/CSCOipm is the subdirectory where you installed the IPM software. This path might vary for your site's installation.

Step 3 To start the interactive deinstallation script, enter the following command:

    # ./deinstallIPM

The deinstallation script lists the file sets that are installed.

Step 4 In response to the following message, enter y:

Do you wish to remove IPMDB database from Sybase? (y/n)? [n] : y

Step 5 Respond to the confirmation prompts for removing the CiscoWorks Blue IPM and ODBC packages.

Installing IPM Software Release 2.0

The following steps show you how to begin running the installation script for IPM software release 2.0 on Sun Solaris. For complete information about installing the IPM software see the "Installing IPM on Solaris" chapter.

To begin installing IPM software release 2.0:

Step 1 Log in as the root user.

Step 2 Insert the IPM CD-ROM into the drive and mount the CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 Start the installation script by entering the following command:

    # ./setup.sh

Choose a menu option to install IPM software release 2.0.

See the "Installing IPM on Solaris" chapter for complete instructions on installing IPM software release 2.0 on Solaris.

Upgrading the IPM Software Release 2.0 Database with IPM Software Release 1.0 Data

Upgrading the IPM database is the final task in upgrading from IPM software release 1.0 to IPM software release 2.0. You can upgrade the IPM database after you have performed the following tasks:

Note Before you begin upgrading the IPM database, be sure that you know the path where the IPM software release 1.0 data was unloaded. The IPM software release 2.0 database must be upgraded with the IPM software release 1.0 data before performing any IPM software release 2.0 operations.

To upgrade the IPM database, perform the following steps:

Step 1 Log in as the root user.

Step 2 Use the cd command to change to the /opt/CSCOipm/bin/upgrade directory, as shown in the following example:

    # cd /opt/CSCOipm/bin

Where /opt/CSCOipm is the subdirectory where you installed the IPM software. This path might vary for your site's installation.

Step 3 Run the following command to upgrade the IPM software release 1.0 database for use with IPM software release 2.0:

    # ./upgradeIPM10.sh

Step 4 Type the location that you specified to unload the IPM software release 1.0 data when the following message appears:

IPM 1.0 data are saved in directory: ?

A Sybase window appears as the data is being loaded and then the program begins to convert the data for use in IPM software release 2.0.

Step 5 When the process is complete, verify that you receive a message that the data has been successfully upgraded:

IPM 1.0 Data have been successfully upgraded.

You can now run IPM software release 2.0 and perform the operations described in the Internetwork Performance Monitor User Guide.
