Quick Start

This chapter provides the basic information needed for new users to quickly start using IPM software release 2.0. Use the information provided here to quickly run a basic installation of the client and server software from the CD-ROM.

For more detailed information and procedures for installing the software, refer to the other chapters in this guide. A brief description of each of the chapters in this guide is available in the Document Organization section in the "About This Guide" chapter.

This chapter contains the following sections:

Note Before you continue with this chapter, be sure that you have read the "Preparing to Install IPM" chapter to verify the system requirements. If you are an existing IPM user, also read the "Upgrading From IPM Software Release 1.0" chapter before installing IPM software release 2.0 to be sure that you preserve any of your existing configurations and data.

Quick Start for Sun Solaris

Perform the following steps to install the IPM software on a Sun Solaris workstation. If you need more details about any of the installation steps provided here, see the "Installing IPM on Solaris" chapter.

Step 1 Verify the following information before you begin the installation:

Step 2 Log in as the root user.

Step 3 Insert the IPM CD-ROM into the drive and mount the CD-ROM drive.

Step 4 Start the installation script by entering the following command:

    # ./setup.sh

Step 5 Do one of the following when the IPM setup program menu appears:

The README file could contain late-breaking information about the IPM product at the time it was released. This information might not be found in the other product documentation.

Step 6 Type the full path (including file name) to the Netscape browser binary file, or press Enter to accept the default path when the following message appears:

Enter full Netscape browser executable pathname: ? [/opt/netscape/netscape]

Step 7 If IPM has verified that the system environment is acceptable and you are given the option to perform the express installation, press Enter when you receive the following message:

Do you want the Express Install (y/n)? [Y]

Step 8 If IPM has disabled the express installation, then respond to the messages issued to specify a new port or another directory location to continue with the installation.

Step 9 Verify that you receive messages of successful completion of the installation and that no errors were encountered.

Step 10 When the following IPM startup menu appears, select an option to start the IPM software.
