Installing and Configuring the Multi-System Architecture

Installing and Configuring the Multi-System Architecture

This chapter describes the steps for installing and configuring Cisco Info Center using the recommended, multi-system architecture. This chapter contains the following sections:

Installing the Cisco Info Server Component

Installing the Cisco Info Server component involves three steps:

Determining the Components to Install

Use Table 2-1 in Chapter 2 to determine which system components to install on the host that will run the Info Server component.

At a minimum, you must install the Info Server component and the Process Control component on the host that runs the Info Server. If you will install licenses on the Info Server host, then you must also install the Licensing component. In addition, if you have purchased a license for the Info Gateway component, you can install the Info Gateway on the host that will run the Info Server

Note also that the licenses for the Policy Manager component are installed by a separate utility, the nci_license utility, while the licenses for the other Info Center components are installed by the nco_license utility.

Note The Syslog Trap Generator (STG) component can be installed on a separate host from the Info Server host or on the same host, depending on the requirements of your installation. However, if you install the STG on the Info Server host, then you must also install the Info Mediators component and configure the RTTrapd Info Mediator.

The Policy Manager component can be installed on the same host as the Info Server. However, do not install Policy Manager on a host that is running Cisco MPLS VPN Solution. Moreover, no Cisco Info Center component can be installed on the MPLS VPN Solution host.

Mounting the CD-ROM

Complete these steps to mount the CD-ROM.

Step 1 Log in as user root.

Step 2 Insert the CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM drive.

Step 3 The CD-ROM should mount automatically if you are running the Solaris Volume daemon (vold) as /cdrom If this daemon is not running, issue the following command to start it:

host# /etc/init.d/volmgt start

Or, mount the CD-ROM with the following command:

host# mount -o ro -F hsfs </dev/dsk/device> /cdrom

where </dev/dsk/device> is the CD-ROM drive device entry.

Running the Installation Program

Complete these steps to run the Cisco Info Center installation program.

Step 1 Change directory to the directory where you mounted the CD-ROM.

For example, if the CD-ROM is mounted in the /cdrom/infocenter directory, specify the following command:

host# cd /cdrom/infocenter

Step 2 Enter the following to start the Info Center installation script.

host# ./OINSTALL
The following message appears:
