UNIX Desktop Reference

This appendix contains reference information about menu options, command line options, and icons. It contains the following sections:

Conductor Reference

This section describes the Conductor's icons, menus, and command line options.

Icons

Table A-1 describes the Conductor's icons.
Table A-1: Conductor Icons
Icon Image Represents When Double-clicked File Name Extension

A UNIX directory.

Moves the view to that directory. The directory labeled with two periods (..) takes you to the parent directory.

An Event List configuration file.

Starts the Event List program with the configuration file loaded.

.elc

An Objective View map file.

Starts the Objective View with the map file loaded.

.map

A filter file.

Starts the Filter Builder with the filter file loaded.

.elf

A view file.

Starts the View Builder with the view file loaded.

A linked configuration file.

Starts the Event List program with the configuration file loaded.

A linked map file.

Control+h

Shows file names in the Personal Library and Browser window whose names begin with a period(.). These are hidden files.

Shows file names in the Personal Library and browser window whose names end with .bak.

Tools

The Conductor Tools menu. Derived from the system menu ConductorMenu. Only available when the administrator has created that menu. Designed for site specific options.

Changes the cursor to a question mark. You may then click on any item in the Conductor program and the Conductor displays Help on that item.

Displays a window providing you information about the Conductor, including version number and licensing information.

Command Line Options

Table A-3 describes the nco command line options.

-noauto

Start the Conductor, however, do not start the tools in the Autostart boxes.

-cmap

Make the Conductor (and any Cisco Info Center tools it starts) use their own color map rather than the default color map.

-server <string>

Specifies the default server name (<string>) to use.

-directory <string>

Specifies the directory (<string>) to display in the Directory Group.

-help

Prints Help text on the command line options in the Conductor and exits.

-version

Prints version information on the Conductor and exits.

Event List Reference

This section describes the Event List's menus and command line options.

This section describes the Event List menus.

Monitor Box Window Menu

Table A-4 describes the Monitor Box window's menus and options.

Displays a submenu of priorities. Selecting one of these priorities sets the currently selected alerts to that priority.

Assigns the currently selected alert to the yourself.

Displays a submenu of Cisco Info Center users. Selecting one of the users assigns the currently selected alerts to that user.

Locate Entity

Calls the Objective View and requests that it display a map page, which contains a symbol that displays its status from an entity. It has the same name as the first selected alert's Node field.

Copies a field on the currently selected alert to the Clipboard.

The Event List window Tools menu. Derived from the system menu SubEventListMenu. Only available when the administrator has created that menu. Designed for site specific options.

-config <string>

or

-elc <string>

Specifies the file name (<string>) of a configuration file (.elc) to load at start up. The default is no configuration file.

-server <string>

Specifies the name (<string>) of the ObjectServer to connect to. When not specified, the environment variable NCO_SERVER is used; when this is not set, the server name defaults to NCOMS.

-username <string>

Sets the username (<string>) to connect as.

-password <string>

Sets the password to use. (This is not recommended, as it currently advertises the password in the UNIX systems process list; use at your own risk).

-cmap

Makes the Event List use its own color map rather than the default color map.

-nlw

Do not display license expiration warnings.

-diagnostic

Display extended diagnostic messages (for support only).

-help

Prints help text on the command line options in the Event List and exits immediately.

-version

Prints version information on the Event List and exits immediately.

-uneditable

Disables the Filter and View edit buttons and the Event List Configuration window so you cannot edit filters and views.

-alt

Switches the Event List to Alternative mode (see Appendix B, "The UNIX Alternative Mode").

Filter Builder Reference

This section describes the Filter Builder's menus and command line options.

Drag and Drop Reference

This section describes the drag and drop operations.

Object Icons

When you drag and drop an object, the mouse pointer indicates the type of information in the object. This is known as the drag source. Table A-13 describes the mouse pointer icons.

Icon Object

An Event List Configuration Object.

This object appears in the Conductor and indicates a drag and drop operation of an Event List configuration within the Conductor.

A Filter Object.

This object can appear when you drag and drop a filter. This can occur between the Filter Builder, Conductor, Event List, or Objective View.

A View Object.

This object can appear when you drag and drop a view. This can occur between the View Builder, Conductor, Event List, or Objective View.

A Map Object.

This object appears in the Conductor and indicates a configuration (also known as a map) of an Objective View.

A user.

This object appears in the User Administration tool to show that a user is being added or removed by a drag and drop operation.

A View Column.

This object appears in the View Builder and indicates drag and drop of a column between the column display and the available field list.

A sort column.

This object appears in the View Builder and indicates drag and drop of a sorting parameter between the sort list and the available sort field list.

An Event List Configuration Object.

This object appears in the Conductor and indicates drag and drop of an Event List configuration within the Conductor.

A Filter Object.

This object can appear when you drag and drop a filter. This can occur between the Filter Builder, Conductor, Event List, or Objective View.

Drop Sites

You can only drop objects on valid drop sites. When you drag the pointer, a status image shows whether or not the drop site is valid.

Table A-14 describes the icons that appear for each status.

Green

The pointer is over a valid drop site that can accept the object. Dropping the object with this status causes the drag and drop operation to complete.

Red

The pointer is over a valid drop site, however, the site cannot accept the type of object. Dropping the object with this status causes the drag and drop operation to abort.

Black

The pointer is not over a drop site and the object cannot be dropped. Dropping the object with this status causes the drag and drop operation to abort.
