This manual provides information on how to perform an automated, manual, or upgrade installation of Cisco WAN Manager (CWM) 9.2 and its associated software programs on a workstation running the Solaris 2.6 operating system. This release is based on CWM 9.2.06, however it is valid for all releases of CWM 9.2.
The Cisco WAN Manager Installation for Solaris manual is intended to provide information on how to install and configure the CWM 9.2 product.
The Cisco WAN Manager Installation for Solaris manual is intended for experienced UNIX users who are involved with the installation and configuration of the CWM 9.2 product.
This manual is organized as follows:
Chapter 1, "Introduction", describes the minimum hardware and software requirements for the CWM 9.2 release, how to configure your system for multi network support, and how to configure the Informix OnLine database.
Chapter 2, "First Time Automated Installation Procedures", guides you through a first time automated installation (the recommended method) of CWM 9.2 and its associated software programs.
Chapter 3, "Manual Installation Procedures", guides you through a first time manual installation of CWM and its associated software programs.
Chapter 4, Upgrade Installation Procedure, usually describes the procedures you follow when you are upgrading from a previous Solaris version of CWM to CWM 9.2. However, CWM 9.2 requires the Sun Solaris 2.6 operating system. Installing Solaris 2.6 results in a newly formatted hard disk. Upgrade installation procedures will be provided in a future release. The procedure for saving the Informix OnLine database is also provided in this chapter.
Chapter 5, "Configuring and Starting Cisco WAN Manager 9.2", describes how you configure and invoke the CWM 9.2 product.
Chapter 6, "Statistics Collection Manager Stand-alone Installation Procedures", describes the procedures you follow to install a stand-alone version of the Cisco Statistics Collection Manager.
Appendix A, "Installing Solaris and Disk Partitioning", describes installing the Solaris 2.6 operating system without a local NIS (YP) server.
Appendix B, "Disk Striping", describes how to use the optional disk striping enhancement which allows faster disk access.
An Index is also provided.
This manual uses the following conventions and terminology:
The CWM software supports a three-button mouse. The buttons are configured as follows:
This manual uses this terminology throughout (even though it is possible for individual users to customize their devices to use buttons in an alternative manner).
In situations that allow more than one item to be selected from a list simultaneously, the following actions are supported:
The bold style is also used for keywords, names of commands, and names of keys on the keyboard.
Words and characters that are displayed on-screen are printed in courier font.
When set off from the main text, words and characters you should enter by the keyboard are printed in courier font in a bold style. When the word or character string is enclosed in angle brackets (< and >), you should substitute your own character string for the example presented in the text. When referenced in body text, the word is presented in the normal bold font (not courier).
For example, when you see:
you should enter the string root at the login prompt. However, when you see:
you should enter your own password in place of the character string <rootpassword>.
The italic style is used to emphasize words, to introduce new terms, and for titles of printed publications (but not titles of CD-ROMs or floppy disks).
Cisco documentation and additional literature are available in a CD-ROM package, which ships with this product. The Documentation CD-ROM, a member of the Cisco Connection Family, is updated monthly. Therefore, it might be more up-to-date than the printed product documentation. To order additional copies of the Documentation CD-ROM, contact your local sales representative or call Cisco Customer Service. The CD-ROM package is available as a single package or as an annual subscription. You can also access Cisco documentation on the World Wide Web at http://www.cisco.com, http://www-china.cisco.com, or http://www-europe.cisco.com.
When you are reading Cisco product documentation on the World Wide Web, you can submit comments electronically. Click on Feedback in the tool bar, select Documentation, then click on Enter the feedback form. After you complete the form, click on Submit to send it to Cisco. We appreciate your comments.
An installation guide focuses on installing the product. For complete information on other software products, refer to documentation specific to that product, such as Sun, HP, or Informix documentation for users and administrators.
