This appendix describes installing the Solaris 2.6 operating system without a local NIS server. As each window is displayed on the screen, click the appropriate box or default selection for your particular installation.
Before you begin, ensure you have the following information:
We strongly recommend you contact your system administrator for the information listed above prior to installing Solaris 2.6.
In the following instructions, we assume your dedicated CWM workstation was previously configured and used for other purposes. The CWM workstation will use disk configuration 1 listed in Table 2-1. Detailed disk information in the example is as follows:
As each window is displayed, make the appropriate selection and click on the appropriate push button. Note, your response is in boldface type.
Step 1 Insert the Solaris 2.6 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
Step 2 As user root, halt your workstation:
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/halt
Step 3 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
setenv boot-device disk0
boot cdrom
Step 4 The Language and Locale window is displayed. Select a language in which you would like to continue the installation and the location of the workstation, then click Continue.
Step 5 OpenWindows is automatically launched. The Solaris Installation Program window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 6 The Identify This System window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 7 The Host Name window is displayed. Specify the host name, then click Continue.
Step 8 The Network Connectivity window is displayed. This window allows you to specify whether the system is networked. The default is yes. Click Continue.
Step 9 The IP Address window is displayed. Specify your workstation's IP address in the box, then click Continue.
Step 10 The Confirm Information window is displayed, showing the workstation's host name, network, and IP address. If all details are correct, click Continue. Otherwise, click Change and provide the correct information.
Step 11 The Name Service window is displayed. Select None. Click Continue.
Step 12 The Confirm Information window is displayed. You are prompted to confirm the name service is none. Click Continue.
Step 13 The Subnets window is displayed. You are asked, "Is system part of subnet?" The default is Yes. Click Continue.
Step 14 The Netmask window is displayed. The default value is 255.255.255.0. Click Continue.
Step 15 The Time Zone window is displayed. Select the Geographic region button to specify the time zone. Click Set...
Step 16 The Geographic Region window is displayed. Select the appropriate region and time zone from the Regions and Time Zones lists. Click Continue.
Step 17 The Date and Time window is displayed. Verify that the current date and time are correct. Click Continue.
Step 18 The Confirm Information window is displayed. Click Continue (when correct). Otherwise, click Change. You are then back to Step 13, from where you may continue steps 12-16 to make any corrections.
Step 19 The Solaris Interactive Installation window is displayed. System identification has just completed. Now you are ready to install the Solaris 2.6 software. Click Continue.
Step 20 The Allocate Client Services window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 21 The Select Languages window is displayed, enabling you to select a different or an additional language for the user interface. Click Continue.
Step 22 The Upgrade System window is displayed. Click Initial.
Step 23 The System Type window is displayed. Select Standalone. Click Continue.
Step 24 The Software window is displayed. Select Entire Distribution. Click Continue.
Step 25 The Select Disks window is displayed. Select only the boot drive from the Available Disks list, then click Add. The selected boot drive is moved to the Selected Disks list.
Click Continue.
Step 26 The Preserve Data window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 27 The Automatic Layout File System window is displayed. Select Manual Layout.
Click Continue.
Step 28 The File System and Disk Layout window is displayed. Select Customize.
Click Continue.
Step 29 The Customize Disks window is displayed. Specify "/" in slice 0 with size 900, specify swap in slice 1 with size 550, specify /usr/users in slice 6 with size 900, and specify slice 7 to be the remaining disk space of 1650, as shown in Table 2-1, for this boot drive disk configuration. See the example layout shown in Figure A-1 below. Ensure both the root partition and swap spaces are set up correctly, then click OK.

Step 30 The File System and Disk Layout window is again displayed. Verify the root and swap partitions are set up correctly. Click Continue.
Step 31 The Mount Remote File Systems window is displayed. Click Continue.
Step 32 The Profile window is displayed. Click Begin Installation when the displayed data is correct. Otherwise, click Change. You are then back to Step 23, from where you may continue steps 20-28 to make any corrections.
Step 33 A window is displayed asking if you want to perform an Automatic Reboot or a Manual Reboot. Select Manual Reboot and click Continue.
Step 34 The Installing Solaris---Progress window is displayed. Wait until Solaris 2.6 is completely installed.
Step 35 Use the right mouse button to select the System Control menu's Halt System option.
Step 36 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot -rs <Return>
Step 37 The "INIT: SINGLE USER MODE" message is displayed. Press <Return> to enter system maintenance mode.
Step 38 Type:
# sys-unconfig
The following message is displayed:
"This program will unconfigure your system. It will cause it to reverto to a "blank" system ---it will not have a name or know about other systems or networks. This program will also halt the system. Do you want to continue (y/n)" y <Return>
Step 39 When the {0}ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot <Return>
Step 40 The Select a Language window is displayed. Select a language to be used by the user interface, the select the location for the workstation, and click Continue.
Step 41 The Host Name screen is displayed. Specify your host name, then press key <F2>.
Step 42 The Network Connectivity screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option "Yes", press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 43 The IP Address screen is displayed. Specify your IP address, then press key <F2>.
Step 44 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the hostname, IP address, and network connectivity. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 41.
Step 45 The Name Service screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option NIS, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 46 The Domain Name screen is displayed. Specify your domain name, then press key <F2>.
Step 47 The Name Server screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option Specify one, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 48 The Name Server Information screen is displayed. Specify your name server's host name and IP address, then press key <F2>.
Step 49 The Subnets screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option Yes, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 50 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the information on the screen. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 48.
Step 51 The Name Service Error screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to option No, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 52 The Netmask screen is displayed. The default is 255.255.255.0. Press key <F2>.
Step 53 The Configuring Parameters window is displayed with the following message:
"Do you wish to accept this default configuration, allowing your system to save its state and power off automatically when it has been idle for 30 minutes? (If thsi system is used as a server, answer No. By default, auto-shutdown is enabled. [y, n, ?]
Step 54 The Time Zone screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to the desired region and/or time zone, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 55 The Date and Time screen is displayed. Use the up/down arrow keys to move the cursor to the desired field, correct the value, press <Return>, then press key <F2>.
Step 56 The Confirm Information screen is displayed. Verify the information on the screen. When correct, press key <F2>. Otherwise, press key <F4>. You are back to Step 54.
Step 57 You now must enter your root password. Specify, and then re-specify your root password.
Step 58 The "System identification is completed" message is displayed, followed by a message that asks if the system should save your answers so it will not need to ask the questions again when you next reboot. Select Y (the default) and press <Return>.
The system reboots.
Step 59 Login as user root. Use your favorite editor, for example vi, to insert your router's IP address into the /etc/defaultrouter file:
host# vi /etc/defaultrouter
Step 60 Now reboot the workstation to complete the Solaris 2.6 installation. Type:
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/sync
host# /etc/halt
Step 61 When the ok prompt is displayed, type:
boot <Return>
Installation of the Solaris 2.6 operating system is complete. Remove the Solaris CD from the CD-ROM device. You are now ready to install HP OpenView Network Node Manager 5.01.
